    The Traxxas Teton was bought here:
    www.modelsport...
    Buy the Chinese Fake Traxxas here haha... (It's actually really good!)
    Buy it here:
    www.banggood.c...
    Brushless version (more expensive)
    www.banggood.c...
    Spares:

    I have that chinese truck, it is the 18311 if I remember correct. The problem is the durability of the axxis, it is too weak. The axxis twist and brak easy. Not bad for the price but to keep it running is a pain. You have to buy lot of spares and even cheap it starts to be spensive.

    Obviously clones are the way! Especially if you have some basic engineering skills. Most of the time changing the shocks and tyres does the trick. I've owned the Huanqi 727 for 2 years it's a clone of the Traxxas Slash 4x4 got it for 100 USD from eBay changed the shocks and replaced the rear shafts to stainless steel and upgraded it to brushless. Its a hell of a machine for all in all 180 USD as good as a traxxas

    I know this video is a year old but my local hobby shop has one left and it's beautiful!!
    When you take off the body and see the colored components I just love it!
    Then I watched two of your videos comparing it to the Chinese copy and found two copies of it. A Kolegend and Remocking, both $50.
    The clicking diff and the stripped servo sounds like a common thing and I had second thoughts on the Teton.
    But the copy's are slower and need oil shocks and don't look as good.
    And the price difference.
    Help me decide!
    I have to ask,,, why are you blocked by Traxxas??!!

    I think maybe you got a lemon in that Teton (do Brits use that expression? It was presumably built on a friday afternoon) because on my Teton the tires were actually glued, the clicking developed early but never became an issue and, believe it or not, the radio came supplied with Duracell batteries. Once, as I mentioned, I broke a plastic driveshaft but that was my fault for putting a 3s & brushless combo in it.
    I like your comparison but I'd still go with a second Teton if I had reason to.
    Sure wish I had a skatepark to try my rigs out on. How can a town of 14,000 not have a skatepark?

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  5 лет назад

      Yes Al...we use 'Lemon' and Friday afternoon build etc... There is no doubt that the Teton is a decent capable truck, but I think they could have done better for the Price. I'm getting a Maverick ION next week...one of the 1/18 Scale ones, they sit between the clone and the latrax price wise, so would like to see how it compares. Because I knew that it had cheaper parts and my son is new to the RC world as a 6yo so I need something with better quality parts that can take a beaten… so if you can afford it, then go with more quality…. I've been building RC cars for years I'm going to tell you one thing right now they are nothing like they used to be I bought a Traxxas rustler back in 2001 gave it a bunch of upgrades but before I did I bash the hell out of it I really didn't need upgraded it was fine as it was but I wanted more speed and I wanted to waterproof it years later after that one was stolen I bought an updated version and that thing has broken countless times doing the same kind of stuff plastic has become more brittle and they simply can't handle the kind of thrashing that they used to the best way to go if you want something that lasts is to get a decent RC of whatever brand and upgrade the components anymore you don't have to spend a fortune on a name brand RC car to have a ton of fun both upgrading and thrashing them out there in the real world

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  5 лет назад +1

      The problem with Traxxas isn't so much the quality....it's how much they charge for them! Take the UDR...costs around $800 I think...and from what I've seen....it breaks all the time! Upgrading is the way forward, so cheaper product....more to spend on upgrades.

I crashed my xo1 doin 70 in an unfinished part of my nighborhood, i hit a manhole and it flipes 6 or 7 times only thing that broke was the back left arm and my dumbass crashed it in water and everything still works like the day bought it. Not hating on any other brand redcat and arrma make awsome products but i just perfer my traxxas stuff😀

    My cousins have had a good but hard time with traxxas, they've upgraded to brushless and still ran the NiMH batteries and they broke suspension arms and parts doing speed runs on freshly paved roads, me and them are still a huge fan of traxxas but the plastics are good but not great, we don't bash the living hell out of them, but those poor rustlers are just needing off brand or metal parts, gears and driveline are made customly from me to them and are metal, got some titanium gears from a forger buddy of mine, ive got some big plans for my wltoys a959b, I'm going to be getting more upgrades for it for my 16th birthday, past upgrades are on my channel from a while back. But I will update and post a video when it's finished.

    Found it. Yea, the clone uses a non sealed ESC/receiver combo that looks like trash. It's an open pc board. Give her a go through a puddle and report back. The Teton uses Xl5 based ESC and a proper radio setup with 2065 servo. all waterproof. Not to mention someone who actually answers the phone or chat online if you need support. As always, you get what you pay for.

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  4 года назад +2

      Yes you are correct. The clone costs a 1/3rd of the price though, so I wouldn’t expect it to have the same good quality components. The servo on my Teton broke on the first run, and the rear diff went pretty soon after. Traxxas quality ay!

    • @sgspec2
      @sgspec2 4 года назад

      At only 130 bucks it's not expected to be unbreakable. The difference is when you need parts on a Saturday you drive to any hobby dealer and you're good. With the Chinese rip off you're down until parts arrive. The Latrax being of hobby quality can also be upgraded with both Traxxas and aftermarket parts. All of this should be taken into consideration. You'll never catch me buying a rip off online trying to save a dollar in the short term.

    • @TomleyRC

      In all fairness....the Clone was jumping nearly as high...and landing heavier as it has less shock absorption, so taking that in to account they were not far off. A teton cost about $120 at most, 2nd can you buy replacement parts for the clone? Myself I prefer Traxxas. I can go to my local hobby store and buy OEM parts or upgraded parts of something breaks. The cheap Chinese crap once its broken its broken and now you have a $40 hunk of crap that you have to keep buying. R/C's is a hobby and a way me and my 3 boys have fun together. Part of our fun is riding to the hobby store and looking at the new R/C's and buying parts to upgrade our cars. Oh and I'm lucky because our local R/C shop warranty's the OEM parts that we break for freeeeee. What I did get from this video is me and the boys are going to a skate park now thanks.
