you can get a fast 1/12 scale, 1/16 scale. look for Brushless over brushed (slow)
the higher the number on the batteries so S2, s3, s4, s6. LiPO batteries are faster.
the cost is really based on your scale. and Faster IS very Easy to BREAK. 40mph is plenty of power. you do wheelies at 40mph. IF you are going to race these... yeah youre gonna spend $1,000. and probably break it 4x in a month.

Dirt is cheap it costs $4-$15 per ton. So an rc that is in the $200 range is totally out of the dirt cheap category. Some may say its a good deal. But sure as hell not dirt cheap. Look that one up
I purchased one for my son and it broke a couple of minor parts in the steering but the wait for replacements is the only downfall to this truck. Some of the parts took almost 2 months to arrive. So what I am saying is that its a good truck, just make sure you order extra parts that you think you may need when you purchase the truck.

fred saraceno In RC world that’s not bad if you get a lot of bang for that buck. Paid 740.00 for my Maxx with EZ ID charger and extra 4S battery. Luckily I was able to sell my custom all-aluminum upgraded nitro T-Maxx for around 580.00 that didn’t even run so I could buy it. So glad I finally made that move and went electric. Was good timing too cause the X-Maxx had been out for a bit and I wanted one but then the cheaper Maxx debuted and I went with that. Love it too!
its cheap for what you get usually a 1/8 scale 4wd rc costs 600 dollars 300 is very dirt cheap thats like the price of a 3s 1/12 scale rc

This would be a good choice for a beginner its seems pretty stable and easy to control
This looks perfect for starting out my 8 year old on the hobby grade RC instead of toy grade RC. Looks very controllable and not overly dangerous in case he gets the bright idea to ram mom.

the ONLY thing I see not liking, is no cover on the pinion/spur gears to keep dirt/rocks out.

Compare to the OFNA/Hobao Hyper 7 (or SSE.) The ZD racing guys on Facebook (there is a ZD racing FaceBook group) have already replaced the hubs/steering cups for the 9116 with OFNA parts off ebay. That may open up parts availability options.
What’s a good esc upgrade for the Wltoys 12428 I’m running 2s and a low price point I’m also running for my motor a 5000kv so yeah don’t really want to be ordering a esc for it to blow up first run

The RC truck in the video is $259. That's kinda expensive, I could buy a lot a fruit leather with $259, Like 259 of them. Fruit leather is cheap.

only thing that bought me was the brushless system. at least it will last awhile over brushed. saying that brushless motors are very expensive so i think in all for the HOBBY price, this RC is pretty good, fast (not insanely fast) but secure and a very capable machine from what this guy is doing with it straight out of the box.
my neighbor just told me his rc truck ive been watching him run in the front yard for the last 5 years was 1300 dollars. i knew nothing about rc, i almost shit my pants. still think id rather have the fruit leather though.

I learned on a quad that jump landings are less jarring if you stay on the throttle but you are a lot harder on RC cars then me so maybe you don’t mind harsh landings, just my suggestion.
Damn bro just found this video just subbed.I still have my RC10 1ST car I had with trinity motor.Spent ton of loot on that car prob 30 years ago .You just got this 45 year old back into it and I tell wife its for my daughter lol. Im buyn that .Maybe get my RC10 outta my parents attic that looks like so much fun..Peace
-- That looked like great fun. Side-note .. The smaller orange vehicle seemed to out run the blue bomber at times more so with being more deft control-wise while at speed with less F1 under the hood. (tires ?)
The xmaxx has a really high center of gravity unlike the ZD racing truck which is pretty much a 1/8 racing buggy under the body. They just threw some monster truck tires and a body on it.

So while the video is old i would like to add I own the roller version and have this truck pushing 6s on a hobby wing system. This truck is a beast and have just recently crashed on landing and need both front upper control arms as I bent mine. I'm sure they can be fixed as it's the metal adjust part but new ones on the way. It loves 4s and still plenty fast. The shock towers are prone to bending so 3d print a backbone brace and good to go. Overall great truck a bit on the heavy side but jumps great still

Looks like i found the perfect 1/8 scale basher for me. Speed is just perfect for me (not a fan of crazy fast trucks) and that thing lands as if it got a harness or something

@@KevinTalbotTV just broke my servo arm on my trx4. Never broke it and it lasted a year. All my hobby shops dont have the part or upgrade. Luckily my UDR parts came today. It rips now.

banggood specials have always been best bang for your buck! people who are not hobby enthusiast do not understand the price to performance value of rc's judging by some of the comments below. this is great 8th scale for a reasonable price. like you I've sunk thousands of dollars into the hobby and to start seeing these jlb models and ones alike do what they can do for as cheap as they are other cheap models do not compare. also the stampede that people mention on here especially if its the 4x4 vxl version is more expensive its not just $200. and ranges in price depending on where you buy. i have two of them. great truck but smaller less capable of getting over as big of terrain as this thing can. and the faster version is a lot quicker than this guy. a good 1/8 to enjoy without breaking the bank. great video kev!

Are you worried about the bendable frame at all? Does it look like a some type of lateral support could be installed easily enough?

I bought the faster version based on this review... but I'm not sure how to charge it because the instructions only show the single lipo version. Mine has 2x 2S lipos in series - but each of the packs has it's own charging plug. The car was running great for 15 mins but then it started going slow and stuttery. Turning it off for a bit it works a for a few secs - so I guess out of charge. Tried to charge it over night but only got a few mins out of it before the slowness and then stuttering came back. Is the charger that comes with it just really slow? Do i need to charge each lipo in turn?
that thing is begging for a 6s goolrc upgrade...

I like ZD racing products, but I have had them break fairly easily on me.
Do the wd40 trick that kev does a vid on. Spray all the plastic with wd40 and leave it to soak in overnight. It will obsorbe the wd40 and make the plastic more flexible so instead of it breaking and snapping it will bend and not break.
Could you do a revew on the ftx surge ?

Considering a stock brushed 2wd slash is $250 ya these trucks are super cheap for what u possibly get. Heck a velenion (brushless) upgrade for the slash is $150 so an extra $50 for aluminum chassis and shock towers that's a huge bargain. And its rtr. For $400 I still have to RIP a good deal of my electronics out to get that power

Can you get spares easy for it when it does break? I have a gearbest car. Broken 3 parts. On a small skate bash with my son. I can only find 2 of the parts on their site. Which has basically made the car useless after 1 run. Big problem and something very important when considering an off brand ( cheap or expensive ) rc

1/8 scale with 1/10 scale electronics, should hold up well. Putting a stronger 1/8 scale combo in it might change the things though

Im new to this youtube stuff and ive done my research on this truck, for the price of it. you can get a way better truck. I wouldnt call this cheap. I hope Kevin Talbot has videos on like 100 dollar cheap 1/10 scale for kids. I wanna ket my step son one but he is new to rc.

I just got back into rc after years of not having one and I always had nitro trucks now I have a rustler 2wd and I put a castle mamba motor in it and changed the gearing and it topped out at 37mph and from watching your videos I bought a zop 3 cell lipo I had a 2 before now it wheelies down my entire street I can’t even floor it with out it trying to flip even tho I have a wheelie bar lol it tops out at about 50 Id say now. Of course the day I got the battery and drove my truck my mom moved her car and runs over one of the rear wheels and crushes it while I wasn’t paying attention at least she didn’t crush the entire thing just another excuse to buy new parts lol. I love the vids They’re all amazing it’d be cool to visit England and send my rustler off a jump at the skate park with you😂you guys are amazing people.

How are the center wishbones on these things? Because I had an avalanche XTR and they would constantly go out and bend I had to 3000 MAH batteries that came with it.

Hi kevin in your video you says all spare parts available but there is no way ti get all the parts...
This RC truck appears to be a clone of the DHK Zombie. The Zombie also comes with a rear spoiler. If this is an exact clone you can buy spare parts and upgrades from them at the DHK website. I had mine all tricked out with metal linkages/gears, stronger drive shafts,varied diff fluids. For the amount of power that comes out of these 1/8 scale trucks it does put some wear and tear on the parts. But which is an essential part of owning a hobby grade RC, regular maintenance is needed. If you want to have a bit of fun with these I can say from experience, you can put a wheelie bar on it while it has the big wheels on it so no back flips but will need removal of the rear fin. Also which is fun is lowering the suspension and throwing on some Buggy tires. This will allow you more stability, better control and a quicker takeoff. A higher voltage and MAmp battery will definantly increase speed and run time.
