    take Scully from Mulder and he becomes a total mess. Duchovney was phenomenal showing this side of Mulder's character in Season 2. Mulder doesn't sleep, is consumed and grieving with major stubble and a disheveled look. But it's so much more than appearance. he really captured a person who has lost his lodestone and is drowning in guilt and loss. IMO this is where you see just how much Mulder loves Scully and it's Samantha all over again. Jesus the abduction arc was so moving and really spun the show on it's head. What's interesting here though is that CSM really makes you believe his words and is why this show was one of the greatest on television because it was incredibly deep.

    CSM always had perverse obsession with Scully because he wants to posses and destroy everything Mulder has and loves. I think Mulder was aware of his fixation on Scully, that's why his protection instincts go on red whenever CSM mentions Scully. In season 11, CSM obsession had gone so far that his goal was to kill both Mulder and Scully so he could possess their son. Because if he can't have Scully, then no one can. This particular scene in One Breath, gave the first climpse of his fixation on Scully. CSM always planned to get Mulder and Scully to conceive William so he could possess him as his.

    CSM: "I'm in the game because I believe what I'm doing is right."
    Mulder (with a gun in his face): Right? Who are you to decide what's right?
    CSM: Who are you?
    Smart writers.

    David Duchovny is so underrated. There were a couple episodes in the X-Files where he gave performances I thought were a little "meh," but he ALWAYS brought his A-game in episodes like this, where they gave him juicy emotional stuff to work with. I also think he made a lot of subtle acting choices over the years that are easy to overlook if you're not watching closely.

      His anger acting was always A grade, but it was his grief acting that improved massively over the years. Compare him crying to his dad in Endgame about losing Samantha to him hearing of his mothers death in Sein und Zeit/Closure, massive, massive improvement.

      To Mulder, the only one person who really matter in the world, is Scully. From the moment they met. Scully is his life, if you take her from him, he has not life anymore. That's why he is so protective, respectful and sweet with her, he doesn't want to lose her for any reason in the world. Like once he said to Scully "You are my one in five billion"

      @@elisagiambartino3483 "That's why he is so protective, respectful and sweet with her" Estas romantizando el asunto.

    I almost think CSM cares more for Mulder than Spender. Mulder had the guts to stand up to him and never back down in his beliefs. He kept searching for the truth. He could be ruthless in his approach, which I don't know if that could be attributed to his biological father or not. While I am no fan of CSM, I can appreciate fine acting. It sort of breaks the heart when you realize that Mulder is already in love at this point. He probably doesn't consciously realize it himself, but he knows that a huge part of himself is missing. Scully really is the one who pushes him to continue in his journey for the truth and supports and follows him no matter. I think her monologue in the last episode shows how much she believed in him.
    CSM will never win any awards for father of the year because ultimately he's selfish and cares for no one but himself. All of his actions are self serving, and he doesn't care who gets hurt in the long run.

    There was another great scene where Mulder held CSM at gunpoint, but I can't remember which episode.

    CSM: "Are you giving me a choice?" =)

      No its because he didn't want CSM's respect, and he got it and that threw him off. Also, despite everything, he wanted the truth, about what happened to Scully, not to mention Samantha.

    • @rochey1010
      @rochey1010 6 лет назад +4

      Yeah it's what George said, Mulder was taken aback by CSM's words. "I'm nothing like you" and to hear admiration from him is repulsive. Also CSM is playing with Mulder's head here, he's using reverse psychology and at this very moment Mulder is basically a wreck. Scully is dying and he's consumed with rage and guilt. He's desperate for a target for that pain and is on a vengeance mission. He's essentially defeated by CSM's words.

    I have a hard time connecting this CSM who is sitting alone and watching TV with no family as the guy who covers up for the conspiracy to the CSM who is a power mad lunatic that wants to wipe out humanity simply because he can in "My Struggle III."
    Also, calling it "My Struggle" is just tasteless and crass.

    • @HoustonSoto
      @HoustonSoto 4 года назад +2

      I look at it as the Smoking Man had survived death so many times and had been forsaken by anyone ever connected to him - all he has is power and cigarettes. He becomes a true monster by series end. I prefer his earlier season appearances when he was a quiet, shadowy figure with mysterious motivations and lots of nuance that showed different sides of his character.
