The GBA version seems to have a faster processor. I also like the unique sprites (and jumping abilities) for the different characters, as well as the voices. But the SNES version has more vibrant colors and better audio.

The thing most interesting to me here are how many *extremely subtle* changes to the level designs I spot that you'd never even notice if you weren't looking side by side.
There are plenty of spots like the width of the boss rooms where the changes are obvious if slight concessions to the GBA's smaller screen resolution, but then I also saw all sorts of other tiny changes where there didn't even seem to be too much of a gameplay difference that you wonder why Nintendo bothered to tweak it 10+ years later, but you don't question the Nintendo, they know what they're doing

    • @user-gd6lt6pj7p

Super Mario 3 did something similar. Japanese Mario 3 had more difficult platforming and enemy placements, something they tweaked for the worldwide release. GBA version of Mario 3 made even MORE changes to make the game slightly easier.
Most of these boil down to removing an enemy or two or making platforms slightly larger. Stuff so small it makes you wonder why they would bother.

Really makes you wish Nintendo had just included a front light you could turn off and on as needed.
That way, you still have the reflective properties for when you're conserving battery life, or you have strong light, but you don't have an entire library of blown out colors.

I grew up on the Super Nintendo version, but also experienced the Game Boy Advance re-release when I was in high school.
It sucks how that in the Super Nintendo version, you had to go to 1 of the proper Star World levels if you wanted a blue, red or yellow Yoshi & I'm glad that was fixed in the Game Boy Advance re-release so that after you unlocked those 3 different colored Yoshis, you could get them (at random) in any level if you wanted/needed a Yoshi + I liked how the rescued Yoshi eggs were different colors rather than them being all the same color (despite different colored Yoshis inside) in the Super Nintendo version.
I also like the cut-scenes that are exclusive to the Game Boy Advance version, such as the intro, the world changing scene (after finding all exits) & the coin changing scene (after collecting all the Yoshi coins) & I did say I wish they'd been in the Super Nintendo version.
I played the Game Boy Advance version as Luigi, but I wasn't a fan of how he had the flutter (Super Mario Bros 2/USA) jump & I felt it was just out of place & it made some situations a bit tougher, but I think I understand why it was done...
To give Luigi his own unique characteristics this time around rather than him just being a palette swap of Mario (as done in all the older games).
I don't know, I guess I'm just more used to the standard jump (& spin jump) in that game.
While the Game Boy Advance version is superior in the features department, I still prefer the Super Nintendo version.
The Super Nintendo version is the original version & was a launch title for the Super Nintendo + it bas better sound.
The washed out colors in the Game Boy Advance version isn't really a bad thing, but I still prefer the colors in the Super Nintendo version.
Also, here's a little fun fact for you guys...
I didn't know the Soda Lake level (under Cheese Bridge) existed till I was in high school when I read about it in an issue of GamePro when I stumbled across a mini strategy guide in a 2001 or 2002 issue & I went on to unlock it in the Super Nintendo version.

This is the version I played first growing up. So probably an unpopular opinion but I like that the gba version changed it to be that you don’t always revert back to little Mario. This is how modern Mario is and even super Mario 3 back then I think was this way. Yeah I know people who want everything to be hard probably didn’t like that change but I think it makes the game more fair. Imo the challenge of Mario should come from the level design.

Poderia ter comparado com versão que saiu no Mário ALL star a mais atualizada de snes com o Luigi magro.

I like that they used the revised Luigi in the Game Boy Advance version. Super Mario Brothers 2 aka Super Mario Brothers USA established Luigi as more than a palette swap, but rather a unique character. But like most ideas done for Western audiences, it was slow to take hold in Japan. Because they are a bit xenophobic at the end of the day. The character would eventually be corrected for the Super Mario All Stars version of the game, which I assume the GBA port is based on.

GBA had better presentation and fixed the Luigi not having his own character design problem, but apart from that, it loses to the SNES version in about every other way imaginable.
Colour palette and sound really suffered on the GBA.
