  • How to apply a stucco brown coat.
    What is a brown coat? It's the term used for a second coat.
    Folks, we are located in Oakland, Ca.
    Howdy Folks, all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.

    Is it better to use skill when applying cement stucco or muscles?
    My opinion is, skill as you will run out of gas or energy if you use strength as with a long day of, say 8 hours, let alone 10.
    This how-to stucco video was filmed to spread information to all interested in common-sense cement plastering techniques.
    Perhaps you may view and become interested in getting into the plastering trade.
    The plastering trade can use many more intelligent folks as applicators and contractors, which is a fact.
    My son Jason set the camera on a tripod to spread some of the second coat with my buddy, Tim, and me. My youngest son Dan was shoveling and mixing our mud.
    What I like doing is applying the second coat of fat and ugly. This means a lot of excess, I’ll take the excess fat and place it in any hollow areas.
    By plastering with this mindset, one uses pure knowledge of materials and skill with tools,
    not muscle.
    Folks, you can depend on us for sound advice throughout our videos.

    Thanks for uploading the videos and sharing your years experience, I watched most of your videos and practice several times on my own house, then go back to your videos again, learned a lot and find out you gave lots of tips and details in the videos which I didn't pay too much attention until I worked on stucco, such as "fat ugly mud, wait for half an hour before hard rubber float..." I know I understand stucco much better than years ago when I just found your videos, and so glad that we live in the same area, just want to take this chance to say thank you to you guys, really appreciate what you are doing.

    Hi Peter, you’re describing the mixers for BMI plaster. I’m talking about a tommy plastering machine, these monsters usually require 7 to 12 men to operate and work behind. I had one for about 8 years, I finally got rid of it as it required too much babysitting to get the guys on the job and prepped for another day in paradise.
    Best wishes and have a good weekend!

    ?
    TirolessaUSA.
    Pneumatically applied mixes offer a better water/cement ratio for a higher quality finished product
    Removable brass jets (spray with 1, 2, or 3 jets) to match your job and air compressor
    Heavy duty non-rusting stainless (nearly 1 gallon) steel hopper
    Handle on hopper for better control and ease of use
    Removable long handle for spraying in more confined area
    Thats team work !

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  9 лет назад

      Evening Mike Harris, I use premium portland cement plaster, it has everything in it except the sand in which case we usually ask 3 to 4 times as much sand as the cement plaster.
      Us stucco guys rarely get involved with the numbers. Cement types such as 1, 2 ,3 or 4 as this stuff will drive you crazy.
      I use Premium Portland cement plaster for everything it's a combination of common (for strength) and plastic for spreadability)
      These are the bags they sell at Westside building materials for us seasoned plastering fellas.
      Google the nearest Westside building material yard and make you life easier.

    Cool thx guys . One final question . Will stucco stick/bond directly to styrofoam ? Have a home I'm working on and there's a styrofoam border around entire house . Thx mike

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  9 лет назад

      Evening Mike, if the styrofoam is coated with a cementitious base coat, stucco will adhere to it.
      If it's just say white raw styrofoam you must apply a mesh first with a polybond coating.
      Best wishes,

    Hello Kirk just wondering why you guys war long sleeved shirts all the time as hot as it is in sunny California ? Is it because most of the products you use contain lime and things that will burn your arms over time?

    • @StuccoPlastering

      Morning Johnny, exzackory, the plaster has other additives too,
      all will burn the skin off our hands and anywhere else it lands on.
      A precautionary measure,

    Wouldn't it be better if you had some sort of vertical guide on each side so then you have use your rod to scrape off excess stucco? Do you have any experience in plastering adobe with steel?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 лет назад

      Hi maradonasssssss, perhaps guilds would be better off for beginners, for me they would be a distraction.
      I have no experience in plastering adobe with steel, in fact I don't know what this means.
      Happy new year!

    • @maradonasssssss

      ok this is the case. we have a steel frame house, with mud bricks(adobes) built as infill. adobe bricks and steel interface. how once would stucco these two different materials without the stucco crack due to temperature variations?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 лет назад

      It is not possible for me to tell you or anyone else how to plaster and not get cracks, as cracks are natural.
      You can apply many coats on separate days and allow them to dry or use the rapid set cement plasters, where you can apply up to 6 inches back to back, but any movement after the application will cause hair lining in all of today's cement plasters,
      You can add more lime but this is not the time or place for me to explain lime plastering.
      best wishes,
      kirk giordano plastering

    Hey Kirk, Do you find it easier to use a square end darby for plastering, which is what I have ordered. I can see how a two handle darby would be easier to use with heavy stucco but for plaster the square ended seems to lend a more precise touch. Thanks for another informative vid.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  7 лет назад

      Howdy Dude, I prefer two handles, the one you ordered is called a pipe darby as the missing handle allow to go in back of pipes.

      Hmm...well, I don't know if it's quite an irony but I will be having to darby around/under some plumbing in my basement and even a fenced area on my rear exterior wall. Seems I made the right choice out of sheer ignorance....And as my father taught me, try to make do with what you have and improvise. Thanks again Kirk.
