Hope they sell the 50mm individually, it's the one I want and not too keen on buying a set. This 33mm looks pretty dang tasty for the money, so much more interesting than the Sirui lenses.
I emailed Blazar about that and they said they will sell the 50mm individually eventually. They probably want to do their bundle deal first before doing so.
@@cammackey I have the 45. No I haven’t.. it’s just wild that on the left and right it’s like there’s two separate spheres and it starts its own swirly bokeh going in the opposite direction. Super unique. I will be ordering it but I’m just pointing it out. It’s good to see that it can be mitigated a little bit.
That distortion is the point though man. It’s a creative choice. It’s like the Helios 44 2, swirlyer the bokeh and warped the sides, the better! At least for me…
In adding these to the a set. Sold my sirui and nanomoroga except for the 27mm and anamorphic zoom. I’m all in to blazar man. They are stomping everything right now. I love these lenses

I’m sold lol. Can’t believe I’m finally able to purchase an anamorphic lens and get the look I’ve always wanted! I know you love the 50mm as the most versatile, but 35mm has always been my preference. This is slightly wider at 33mm, but the images you captured have given me confidence in the similarity to a 35mm. I’m so excited right now!

I can see these being used in history documentaries to reenact historical scenes, yes I'm quite fond of annamophic and what they provide. Also have the Sirui 50mm and 75mm just want to compare, but it seems they are different enough anyway that it makes sense to keep them. What a time to be alive! It wasn't long before these possibilities were out of reach for most projects.
I used the S5IIX which is essentially the same camera just different body…. I’m waiting for more cage options for the S9 so I can start using it even more but the S5 IIX is main anamorphic camera. So not sure if that was a snarky comment or a serious one but that’s the answer
@@aislynnnomb2571both are the same sensor but since you sound like a beginner save your money and get the S5ii. The x version features you probably don’t need.

Hey cam, just wonder if you've tested this out on the Ronin 4d? I have the A set currently and want to round it it out with a wide lens. Just wonder if this balances, as it seems like it's 100grams heavier than the 100mm, and I feel like the 100mm barely balances with the counterweight. With having to crop in a bit on the 4d image to get 2:35, do you think this or the the 35mm s35 is the better lens specifically for the 4d?
I would never pan with the 33mm on a narrative piece. Faaaaaaaaar too much distortion. However, given the price the all-round performance is excellent! Thanks for your review. ☺

I’ve been waiting for this one. For the exact reason you highlighted, vlogging in anamorphic. I’m obsessed with anamorphic and wanted to pick up a 33mm and 65mm for my FX3. The 33mm looks to only be in PL mount right now though.
People complained away blue flares, then people complained so hard about the Kowa style swimming that Blazar has overcorrected the edges into some sort of strange pincushion bokeh at the sides on the 33mm. I’m jealous of the minimum focus but I like my Remus 35mm more in every other aspect. Either way, these lenses are crazy for the price point.
Well this 33mm will probably have a similar look to the 35mm on S35. I’ll do some tests myself but not sure I have time to publish all of that rn haha.
What other anamorphics Do you see coming down the line that might be a step up from these? I like these, but my budget won’t open up until this coming spring, and if there are some others on the horizon worth checking out I’d love any info! Thanks !
If your budget is going to be double or triple these.. still not much honestly. Laowa is coming out with full frame nanomorphs but from what I’ve seen they look jsut as flat as their S35 ones and they’re going to be $2k a lens and are only T2.9…. Sirui has been quiet so not sure what they got if anything? Zero clue. The DZO Pavos are honestly similar quality to these and start at $6k a lens.. I really don’t think people understand how valuable these Blazar lenses are…
@@cammackey thanks, nobody understand that a 1k anamorphic lens is fkin crazy. What you got until more than 5k is pseudo anamorphic lenses with absolutely no character, you better shoot spherical with a strike filter and crop instead of buying a Sirui

@@cammackey I don't think i've watched anything that had that much distortion to the point you can not help but laugh and applaud them for their audacity and I loved that show's look for it, anyone with an identity and presence in this world would love it and respect it regardless of their style because they are aware enough to know they were not the ones there shooting it. most of the people who hate on affordable options for no reason have no identity or presence, they live in the shadows of what the ' greats ' use which gives them some sort of comfort and approval that they are ' up there '. You make music, You paint, You've been around brands, you know what a brand strategy and brand identity and brand guidelines mean and it sure contributed so much to who you are as a person outside of all of this and You can see it in the most basic day to day tasks and it does defragment everything You used to be, where you from, your heritage, your ancestors history and build up a person who can get a billion dollar feature on his hands and shoot it the way he wants be it using a consumer camera or dirt cheap vintage lens. c'mon brother, some people do not want to have an identity, they just want to be identical 😂 😂
Hey man, I'm seriously considering the 45mm blazer remus. But a little concerned about the barrel distortion. On the Sony FX3 full frame, would the 45 be somewhat clean in terms of barrel distortion?

@@roguerunnerfilms 65mm is a tad cleaner on the edges over the 45mm. If you’re shooting S35 they clean up a lot. You can always use the distortion fix I showed though, works great

No. The S5IIX is 10 bit which holds everything. It’s RUclips not being able to handle the decoding. Imma do a ProRes export and see if it help RUclips decode it smoother. Usually I add film grain which can sometimes help the RUclips processing but didn’t wanna put it on this footage size it’s a lens test

Blazar says the protrusion for the PL is 25mm, and the Mofage VND clearance is 24.5mm. Can you confirm it actually fits?

That’s a big questions because that’s a technical lidar question for any lens. But it can work very well if you get use to the system

They have PL mount you can easyly adapt to E. Once you invest in an adapter you get it for life...

If you’re concerned about any type of distortion, I recommend sticking to spherical. Distortion is part of the anamorphic charm.

100%. I was using the 65mm more than the 45 on 3:2 full frame. But the 50mm is perfection now.

Is there an e mount?
PL and EF. I highly suggest when in investing into cinema lenses to get a mount that can work on any camera! I use PL!

I’ll be using it for pro work easily since I’m usually at t2.8-t4. I do have atlas nercurys too that switch in time from time to time
