The fact he wasn't in many movies but he is so memorable from just The Goonies and Indiana Jones, says ALOT. I am so glad he won, and he deserved this!!
Absolutely! I don't follow movies, I had no idea it was the same guy who played short round until I actually was watching. I've only seen those movies once, and even I recognized him decades later. What an incredible story!
Same here, Temple of Doom was my first Indiana Jones Movie. I remember it well- at my cousin’s house, plug the betamax in and played this- terrified the heck out of us with the heart beating scene! Good times! lol! I am very happy for him.
What I really want to happen with him (and with many others) is that Hollywood actually offers him substantial roles in A-list films regularly. One of the still sadly unexplored frontiers in Hollywood's recent strides when it comes to diversity is accents (actors with non-European, non-Anglo accents making it big in the States). Hollywood needs to write more stories about interesting, compelling, complex characters who happen to be fully Asian, Hispanic, Appalachian (not __________-American), and many groups that we rarely see in movies on a regular basis.
Imagine being an actor and not being given a role for 3 decades because of your ethnicity, then later winning an Oscar for the first acting gig you do. Man, Hollywood really failed this man
I don't think an oscar for best supporting actor was ever as deserved as this one. The daniels wrote this "supporting role" that had higher demands than most leading roles and he was absolutely brilliant in it. And this moment and his speech is so authentic and raw and real, you just have to love it.

So happy when Ke won. I cried during his speech, then his interview saying "Never forget where you came from, because if you forget that, all humility goes out the window" so powerful message.
Way to go Short Round! We had a Temple of Doom reunion tonight...Ke Huy Quan, Harrison Ford, Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. Quan's acceptance speech and him hugging Harrison Ford brought tears to my eyes. This was a great Oscars!
I love this man... So real and heartwarming. Seeing him jumping around, hugging and kissing, acknowledging and remembering everyone who played and helped him along the way. A great vibe of positivity all around!!! Amazing...SO HAPPY FOR HIM!!!
I’m a 28 year-old aspiring entertainment journalist and supporting actor with Cerebral Palsy. I want to book work for Pepsi commercials and family movies like Ghostbusters 3: Afterlife, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and Toy Story. Seeing Ke achieve his resurgence rise to fame by winning an Oscar at just 51 years old gives me a sense of peace and confidence. Nobody ever failed at life because they didn’t achieve their dreams by the time they were 23 years old. I earned my Associate’s Degree from Massasoit Community College when I was 25 years old. I’ve finished 16 acting classes in 6 years and I’m currently 89% done with my Bachelor’s Degree in Film and Video Arts Production from Bridgewater State University. I'm glad I heard Ke's story to make sure that I didn't underestimate the value of how honesty and time will prevail and how there's no age limit on our dreams. Being persistent, dedicated, and firm about my career is what makes it all worth the wait. Congratulations to Ke Huy Quan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have watched this so many times, and will continue to do so. I didn't even know who Ke was, and haven't see his film!! I only watched the Oscars this year because I heard about Michelle Yeoh being nominated and as an AA, I watched just for that reason. I am so happy for Michelle and the whole cast, but this guy, Ke Huy Quan....his enthusiasm, his genuine, heartfelt sense of gratitude....he's like a little boy in a man's body....and even though I haven't seen the film, and I didn't know who he was, I KNOW WHO HE IS NOW!!!!! And my heart is just bursting with joy for him, and I cried like a baby!!! The MOST moving, sincere, heartfelt speech....I could hear all the decades of disappointment, rejection, pain and hurt in this man's voice....thru his tears of joy.....I'm going to see the movie!!! Because of Ke!!!!! 🌟👏👊🌟❤🔥🔥💥❤🔥
I love this. Growing up as a kid in 80's, he was the ONLY person in film or television that I could remotely identify with. (My friends called me Short Round) Even though I am Filipino, this feels like a win for any and all Asian American's who have been looking for distinguished representations of themselves in entertainment for decades. Congrats Ke Huy Quan.
