The most well known Japanese female composer did the work for the original Street Fight 2 game among many Capcom games and many SE games, including the whole OST of Kingdom Hearts series. It's the west that hardly care about female vg composers, if anything.
I have lots of fond memories playing DKC3 as a little kid, and the music is definitely a big part of the game's charm. Although David Wise gets all the attention (which is understandable), Eveline's contributions to the series shouldn't be overshadowed, regardless if she only composed for a handful of games. I... had to get used to the more dark atmospheric DKC3 after DKC2's many catchy tunes, but it works. I REALLY like her Game Boy Color conversion of DKC3, and was impressed by how much it retains the feel of the SNES but on the Game Boy. I also love the ice theme (Frosty Frolics?) as the bass instruments work so well together. I've heard many remixes that don't get it right, so her music made me very appreciative of timbre and instruments in general. I didn't know she voiced Joanna Dark.
ok ok she did a better soundtrack than the gba one. but I don't think David wise did all of the soundtracks on gba which it is not true but I heard David wise did snes soundtrack and put some arrangement but it didn't match the snes on gba which the game boy advance on the other hand lacked the bass.
If Wise composed the dkc3 soundtrack it would've been objectively better hands down. I like the work she did but David Wise is a legend, and arguably one of the top VG composers of all time. Hard to compete w that, and certainly no one at Rare at time could've.
We all should also be aware of the brilliancy of work done by the author of this video. All gradual tempo changes segueing from one track example to another all done without a hitch, all done masterfully to demonstrate the wonderful work of the composer. So it was altered, reworked, remixed to represent the changes done for example for different versions of the dkc3 soundtrack. It's done very subtle and very tasteful and I'm sure that the original composers would praise that high grade representation of their music. Flawless to my taste!
I've heard Nuts and Bolts in quite a few fan-made Doom levels and I never even suspected it was from DKC 3. It goes so well with dark, gritty settings like some of old FPS games. Great stuff.

One of the most underrated composers of the 16 - 32 bit era, great tracks and no recognition. thanks for putting here in the spotlight. and yes, the DKC 3 is one of the greatest OST ever made in videogames
Eveline was clearly a talented musician. Those Gameboy arrangements of the SNES music are incredible for the hardware. It's too bad she didn't continue working in video game music in some form or publish her own original music. At least that we know of.
I love her work on DKC so much, DKC3 is one of my favourite games ever and I played so many times and the music is just perfect. When I finally got DKC3 on GBA I was so bothered by the new music, even if every review praised the fact of DKC3 finally getting a full David Wise soundtrack.
They sound a lot better to me and sound more interesting than a lot of Gameboy music. It does sound like she had limited experience and was trying to closely replicate the snes soundtrack rather than create something that sounds different, but works well specifically on the Gameboy. They obviously don't hold a candle to someone like Alberto Gonzalez's GB soundtracks.
This contrast just shows how DKC3's soundtrack on SNES is just too quiet for an action game. Also, unlike the previous games it lacks in the percussion department. Not convinced by the melodies either, to this day I'm still disgusted by "Stilt Village".
I do think thats one of her weaker tracks, tbh. her melodies seems to shine brightest when they take a backseat to the atmosphere. I like to think of this as foreshadowing her shift to working primarily with SFX implementation.
@@AWISECROW it's all subjective, of course. I personally don't vibe with the bright and cheery sound. It might be telling to learn that my fav Eveline track is "Mama Bird"

Uh they are.... Just in Japan since the 1980s. ALOT Capcom games had female composers. Konami had two. Nintendo had Soyo Oka.

Speaking of great female composers, I'd love a deep dive on Saori Kobyoshi, her work on Panzer Saga is my fave game sound track of all time.

I’ve always felt like her compositions in the DKC series were every bit as impressive as David Wise’s. It sucks that she’s not as recognized as him.
Sad Eveline didn't do more soundtracks, only Final Fantasy VII-IX comes higher than DKC3 on my list of favorite soundtracks

david only contributed a few tracks for snes dkc3. he did, however, write all of gba dkc3.
