Thanks for all those that watched the video in the first couple of days and commented to participate in the giveaway! The idea was to make the odds of winning high for those more loyal subscribers and those on the Facebook Axum page where I posted a link. Again, thanks for watching and participating. The giveaway is now closed. The winner is vekastokc!
This channel is great. Excellent for first timer
This channel is awesome!
Lots of good and inspiring upgrades on this. Really want to do a through axle up front but I’ll wait till I start tackling more challenging trails.
Thank you 🙌🏾
Very thorough
This channel is awesome! Just getting started with biking and just found your channel. You make everything easy to understand!
This channel is awesome... but I am abroad! 😞 Thanks for sharing anyway!
This channel is awesome! Nice clean build on an Axium.
You WIN! Let me know what the shipping city and state is here, then contact me at tonyrantonio@netscape.net with your full address so I can send the pedals. That way I can match the city and address here with the shipping address in the email and verify it's you. Congratulations!
Awesome! Thanks!
Shipping city is Rock Hill, SC
This channel is awesome
This channel is awesome!
I’ve fully upgraded my Schwinn Axum DP and have watched you the entire way!
This channel is awesome!! Thanks for your video on your sick bike!
I was just wondering about you. I hadn't seen a video lately and this popped up. I love my axum too...still running on the wheels I built...as always your channel is awesome 👍!!
Just saw your video... just started getting into mountain biking... I have a few years on my bones now and glad to see others my age doing this also... so awesome video and content... keep kickin' up the dirt and thank for your time.
You will love it. It might be a little tough at first, but once you start getting in shape it feels great to just get out the and ride, body and mind 👍
@@TonyHob How old are you Tony?
This channel is definitely awesome. Just bought my first Axum
Nice teaser.
This channel is awesome .got same bike and only thing left is the frame , love it
Congrats Tony! I think you nailed it, the perfect Axum blueprint.
Thanks, I plan on keeping it as my hardtail for a while!
HONESTLY I AM CONFUSED ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN: aL COMP, BOUNDARY, AND AXUM
Hey I got that same koozer rear hub on my GT Pantera thanks to your prior hub video. It's been working flawlessly. Great review on your bike 👍
Thanks!
This channel is awesome!
I have a SRAM GX shifter and derailleur w NX cassette and crank on my '94 Cannondale Super V 2000 . I absolutely love how crisp and quick the shifting is, it is almost as fast as the early shimano hyperglide 7 speeds and definitely better than the newer Shimano stuff.
Great minds think alike 😂. The GX drivetrain has worked great, I even had a 95 Super V!
@@TonyHob I know, I used your video to help me disassemble mine since I got it as a very well used bare frame. I completely replaced all the bearings, put on a early 2000's Fatty Ultra, modified it to front and rear disc brakes..sanded and repainted the frame and swing arm...it's pretty much a brand new bike. The only thing I did not touch was the rear shock.
Tony, your channel is always awesome, just like that t shirt of yours!
Great video.. great content.thanks for the videos.
My Axum is my main race bike here in Mexico, it is such a good bike. Great videos mi amigo
Called fix it up for thieves.
Awesome video.
I have a 2017 Boundary converted to a gravel bike
Beautiful bike and components!
Thanks!
Been getting back into biking and have a nice old cannondale scalpel with 26" wheels and was trying to look into a beater for around town and the trails. I've been debating between this one and a bikes direct single speed 29er to get into the 29er game. I'm thinking I may do this guy because of the upgrade possibilities. This has me leaning towards the Schwinn. Either way, this channel is awesome! Keep up the content.
Trust me, I own the Schwinn Axum
And I own Cannondale Super, V 1000 and extra large Cannondale raven I love Cannondale
Trust me what I say you should buy the Schwinn Axum you’re gonna love this bike like I love my bike 29 inch rims, duel, disk, brakes, dual quick release aluminum frame just like Cannondale so trust me what I say go to Walmart and go buy you a Schwinn Axum you’re gonna love it bro it’s very very fast and very fun to ride just like Cannondale they are all fun to ride
Why you don’t like your Schwinn Axum? Let me unsubscribe from your channel cause you’re another person that ignores my comments.
This channel is awesome! I got a Schwinn Taff mt. Bike and was wondering how come mine’s came with 8 speed single gear instead of the 24 speed. I was wondering if I should upgrade it to the Shimano gears?
It really depends where and how you ride. If you ride mostly flat areas or rolling hills the 1x8 will be fine. If you plan on doing a lot of climbing or technical trails consider upgrading to a 1x11 drivetrain.
channel is awsome , my boundry agrees !!
This channel is awesome!
Another great video!
Thanks!
This channel is awesome!!! 😎
This channel is awesome!!!
I miss my Axum sometimes lol. Shipping has been super crazy expensive, nearly triple at times
I’m keeping it as my official hardtail 🥰
This channel is awesome. :)
this channel is awesome!
Show mom, she’ll get a kick out of it!
This channel is awesome. :-)
I almost bought a Schwinn Axum. Unfortunately, it was just big enough to be unsafe for me to ride.
This channel is awesome 👏
This channel is awesome.
I bought a Walmart Axum and Bucklos Forks that has a straight through axle, however the Axum has a quick release, So I'm thinking that I need a new hub to lace up or some type of conversation kit that I haven't heard of yet.
Any ideas and input would be appreciated ! Thanks 👍
Easiest way is to get a new wheel. Make sure you get the correct hub (boost 15x110mm vs non boost 15x100mm)
The Axum is on sale right now for like $230 right now
I saw that on the Facebook group! I wish I could have bought it instead of the Ardor I bought as a beater
How much total cost did you spend on all the upgrades?
I just pulled the trigger. Walmart had the non dropper for $228. I’ll give it a shot. 53 years old and just getting started.
The new price makes it an amazing deal! I am 54 y/o 👍
@@TonyHob yea. I thought it was a typo but it’s supposed to be here in the next couple days.
Was your Axum listed as a medium when you bought it? The ones near me say large and im really hoping its actually a large.
The box has an M that seems to stand for “men’s” My bike is a medium which is what I ordered.
Great video
Spend all this money and someone steals it locked. I had a Mongoose needed painting i was in process of upgrading got stolen locked. Did some wheel upgrades on my old but nice Huffy 20 years old it was stolen locked. Saw a guy who had a quick release rim with tire a homeless person unclipped it threw it in a shopping card and ran down the street with it. Went in the library to report it they found the owner and their was his bicycle without his wheel i guess he walked it home. Not worth the time if that is the outcome.
Man, sad to hear…
Can you possibly expound on the rear hub you mentioned in your video. Did you respoke the wheel yourself? Is it something a novice could do? I really would like to get a new front fork with a through axle so I was wondering if it’s something I could tackle. Thanks for sharing, love your vids!
Nevermind, I just found your video on the rear hub. I'm impressed with your bike knowledge. Engineer? Thanks again for sharing?
Mechanically inclined 😂 Seriously, everyone thought I was going to be an engineer in high school (I am really good in math and physics), I ended up studying medicine. I am a pediatrician.
Hello Tony. What type of bottom bracket and crankset are you using here?
I'm confused with the standards and schwinn axum's compatibility. I found a good deal on NX eagle groupset ($180) and not sure which type I need (boost vs non-boost).
The NX crankset depends on the chainring, 6mm offset chainring non boost and 3 mm for boost. Boost works best for the Axum
@@TonyHob Thanks! I'm reading that the rear spacing for the axum is 141mm QR, which is non-boost, I believe. Boost is 148mm, right? With that, boost crankset is still a better option for the axum? Also, the dub bottom bracket is the same for boost or non-boost crankset, right?
Pardon if I'm asking something obvious. I'm a noob when it comes to MTB, just purchased an axum and thinking about upgrading the drivetrain. I was going to order Advent X, but seeing 1x12 groupset for around the same price, I think it's a better option. Just want to make sure I'm ordering the right part.
Ah, never mind, I'm seeing that 141mm QR is a boost standard. Quite confusing, tbh.
I had a schwinn axum that I traveled on..unfortunately it was the bike I was ran over on..I put over 600 miles on that bike before it got destroyed..I loved it
Mine had been a great bike too
You have the Bike (Ship) of Theseus. Is it still a Schwinn Axum? It’s a question that plagues my mind too since i have one and have upgraded a lot of parts too.
To me, it is still a Schwinn.
No one said what the seat post clamp was…… it is an “Origin8” clamp.. Can I get the pedals since I knew the clamp? 😅😅😅
Actually there’s another post made in the first few days that names the clamp. Nice try though 😂
@@TonyHob oh dang I missed that post. Welp I’ll keep an eye out for the next giveaway or guess that part..😝😝
I'm 5'10" myself. Does it take some getting used to? It's been AGES since I've rode anything but with the price of this right now and wanting to get into riding for fitness and fun, I was gonna pick this up but I'm worried it'll be too large for me.
The medium fits really well at 5’ 10”. It’s actually at the edge of feeling small. The large would feel big
What mods do you have done to the bike?
Sometimes I have to wonder about these comments. I literally do a complete bike check component by component in the video…
Hey brother! What part did you use for your crank axle? I can't find the part. I have the dub BB installed but the crank looks like it takes some sort of star. Can you help me out please?
Not sure what you mean. Maybe this will help ruclips.net/video/0AumVNKwUOQ/видео.html
This channel is awsome
This channel is alsome...would like to do similar upgrades.
Would it be fair to say this bike is not worth it without doing all those upgrades? If you don't have any components to upgrade with it sounds you are better off buying something that is trail worthy, even if it cost $200 or $400 more than the $400 this bike normally sells for. Maybe you still need to customize a more expensive bike, but it would not be so many components hopefully.
I would say it’s better to buy a nicer bike from the start. In my case I was looking for a frame and could not find one for less than the cost of the Axum
I love my Schwinn Axum mountain bike it’s extremely fast and very easy to ride in very comfortable. I have a better seat for it. So it’s very comfortable. I love my mountain bike. I just want to ride my bike for forever. Because I listen to my Dr. Dre beat headphones Bluetooth and I listen to my rock ‘n’ roll or whatever I listen to and have fun exploring everywhere. It’s a top-of-the-line Walmart mountain bike. I love the. 1-8 speeds. It’s designed like that so you can enjoy your bicycle cruising. I love it that it has dual disc brakes 29 inch rims and all quick release tires thank you
Wal-Mart I’m a very happy customer I have to get the dropper post seat. It’s already ready for it, I got the standard large frame, Schwinn Axum mountain bike it’s DP ready I have to get the air, suspension seat post and the shifter but all in all I love the spike it’s aluminum frame this bike is really enjoyable to ride in very very fast
Was the assembly hard, any specific tools I need to assemble it
Assembly out of the box was straight forward. Only really need hex keys (allen wrenches)
@@TonyHob preciate it and I'm getting one on Monday got it at Walmart for 230 bucks what a steal
@@TonyHob I just got one and recently had to take the back wheel off in order to fit it in the car but ever since then I have not been able to repair the chain. Can't find any videos and iďk just want to try one more time before I take it to a shop. I friccn love this bike tho
Try not to clamp the top tube! It’s not meant to endure forces in that direction
😂 I see these comments every time someone posts a picture like this one on a forum or social media. This aluminum frame will be fine. It’s being held, not clamped with any force
$50 you can upgrade to Shimano hydraulic brakes for both front and rear
The Hayes radar are better than the low end Shimano
How tall are you? Just wondering for reference if it will fit
A little over 5’ 10”, right between medium and large for most frames
@@TonyHob and is this the 19in frame?
@@TonyHob
Would this be good for the height 5’8
Origin 8. LOL!! It’s J&B Distributers house brand.
LOL, I remembered after the video. I have one of their seats too
I just noticed the glag on the bike! Go Boricua!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Pa’ que tu lo sepa 😂, saludos!
100% new to biking. How new.... 2 hyper % $148 bikes bahahaha. Been looking at the axom and the taff for possible next bike. My riding consist of easy flow due to shoulder damage. So on here to see mostly what my body needs to stay away from. Plus, safety possibilities for what i guess will be my first upgradable bike
The Taff is a big bike. If you are less than 5’10” the medium Axum will be a great option
I just order an axum from Walmart for $228 on clearance
🙌
Ok, so what is to love about the original bike if you upgraded everything? Seems the original bike came with cheap components. Not really an actual review.
Where in the title or description does it say that this is a review? Heck, at 1:44 I actually bring up the same question. My initial review (actually an overview,) is here ruclips.net/video/7QXbvCok4gw/видео.html
I only regret my $1600 Axum dp build when I see prices now, and what my $1600 would get from Marin, Vitus, Diamondback, etc.
