The box Cassette is a rebranded Sunrace cassette. I've experienced the same thing eventually they strip, but I have spares from previous worn out cassettes. But I've experienced it with Shimano xt m8000 cassette too.
You can also snap a master link in place even easier by positioning it on the upper side just before the cranks, holding the rear brake, and stepping on the pedals.
Gosh, I too had so many issues with Box components, so glad you didn’t go with box four. I’ve broken 2 box four cassettes, 2 box four derailleurs, a box two-e prime 9 shifter, and a box two-e prime 9 derailleur
Good job man! We got the Taff and have had nothing but trouble with the derailleur. Same $1000 budget on our build, but I think we are going 10 speed so we can save a little money. Keep making videos like this, and you will be in the thousands of subscribers real soon. Thanks for the video.
@@GodKing_Guts Haha yep, we feel ya. Can't wait until we get to experience the bike actually shifting and working properly 😁. But that derailleur was a total piece of 💩.
As you progress into more advanced parts the"If it doesn't fit force it" expression will surely put a dent in your bike and or wallet. A good general tip is to grease all parts that thread into something else and be gentle with the threads as they have a tendency to strip. This is especially true for bottom brackets. Keep at it though! Share your mountain bike enthusiasm with the world!
Swap your shifter and brake on the bars to make your brake lever position better for 1 finger braking. You’ve got the hydro brakes now, 1 finger should be plenty. You can do the same with your dropper and brake on the left side. A long time rider friend of mine showed me this and now both my bikes are setup that way and it’s so much better. The other way is from when you needed 2-3 fingers to operate brake levers. Some brakes come with short little levers for 1 finger but they are nicer/higher level brakes.
Good advice! The mt200 levers are super long so I will definitely do that. Sometimes I forget that all I need is 1 finger to brake. So used to rim brakes on BMX. Thanks for watching!
I was going to suggest the same thing. I just moved mine inboard even a little more. They are just over 1.5” in from the grips so I can get my index finger right at the little hook at the end of the lever. Anyway, another great video. Keep it up!
You defenitly upgraded the correct first components. Now the bike actually is gonna perform much better, less problems, and more stable. Rest just stick with until you destroy or wear it out
I was hoping to upgrade my Schwinn axum from what it is and upgraded to an 11 sprocket cassette without having to change other parts like the shifting aspects of it mechanically. I understand I might have to buy more chain but I was hoping to get away with not buying a whole new shifting apparatus.
I know right! I really splurged on that fork/hub combo ($300). I have tires coming and another small upgrade and I'll be finished. Thanks for the support!!
Ive looked at bikes with similar features in similar prices my friend got a salsa timberjack for 950 and its got everything you have but with one problem i feel like the rear rim is always going to brake on it.
Silly question but when you replace the derailier and fork do you have to replace the stock chain ring and crank arm? Or are they all independent of the other.
They are independent. In this case, the chain ring works because it's considered to be a narrow wide. Thanks for watching and consider checking out some of my newer stuff
I might be missing something but why go through all the trouble to get all the oil off your chain just to oil it again? Couldn't you just wipe the excess oil off and leave the oil inside the rollers where is needed?
The oil from the factory is more of a preservative and not intended for bike chains. It really attracts dirt, like badly! So removing it and using the proper stuff is necessary
@@EvansMTBSaga I was told that the Schwinn Boundary has a freewheel (and it definitely does) instead of a freehub/cassette like the Axum has, so the Boundary upgrades are more complex. Might have to buy a new rear wheel. Do you know anything about this?
I just picked the 2020 Schwinn Boundary about a month ago. I've made a few upgrades $70 total with new bars, stem, and pedals. I'd like a wider range on the rear cog and I wonder if you know if the 29" wheel, hub, and 8 speed cassette from the Schwinn Axum will fit the Boundary? (not the tire) Thanks!
Well I just stumbled upon a hidden gem channel.
Haha glad you found my channel! Stick around for more videos!

Nice! that bike should be able to tackle just about anything now
My tires are going bald and its getting harder to tackle the rocky climbs here in Phoenix! Thanks for watching
Awesome video again! You are greatly under appreciated. Hope to see some big and chunky tubeless tires soon!
They're in the mail right now! I was thinking about you as I ordered them haha. Thanks for the support.

I loved the camera angle of your chain while riding! That chain was going wild!!! Thanks for the motivation!
I bought the taff recently too and the derailer is just trash. Really holding the bike back. Other then that I've loved it

what tools did you use to get remove the cassette?
Ive looked at bikes with similar features in similar prices my friend got a salsa timberjack for 950 and its got everything you have but with one problem i feel like the rear rim is always going to brake on it.
Interesting. Why do you think the rear rim feels like that?
It seems like 600 bucks is what it will take to get the Axum up to speed. The front wheel is a big downer for fork selection.
For fitting the 11 speed cassette on the free hub is there a spacer behind the 8 speed or just enough room with no modification ?
No spacer. I was surprised. 11 speed is just engineered to fit perfect. Thanks for watching!
Shimano MTB HG cassettes are the same width for 8,9,10,11 and even SRAM NX 12 speed. They all fit without any mods
what did you do with the factory axe drivetrain and you could have put the axe drivetrain on the wifebike
That drive train went in the trash. It was awful. I put a microshift advent on the wife bike.
How the heck did you bend the derailleur hanger by peddling on flat?
The wheel fell off (quick release) while pushing on the pedal. I had no clue it fell off so I tried like three more times to take a pedal!
@@EvansMTBSaga Ah! It didn't make sense, even for a Walmart bike.
I broke my hangar too and am having trouble finding a replacement. Can you tell me where you found yours?
Call Schwinn support they can hook you up
What's your thoughts on Ceramic Jokey Wheels ( Derailleur Gears)?
Was just wondering what was your final cost after all your upgrades I have the same bike I'll stop and I want to start upgrading ASAP

4:31 the master link tool isn’t necessarily for clicking it together, it’s for taking it apart
Hi, my friend has a 2020 schwinn axum. I think it has a shimano freehub body. From my understanding even a sram NX 12s cassette will work?
Yup that's my understanding also.
I might be missing something but why go through all the trouble to get all the oil off your chain just to oil it again? Couldn't you just wipe the excess oil off and leave the oil inside the rollers where is needed?

did you have to change the hub ?
Did that cassette fit on the factory Schwinn wheel hub? Wondering if I can do that on my Boundary
Yeah it did no problem. As long as your cassette is a Shimano HG, then it can go up to 12 speeds I believe. You can tell by the splines.
@@EvansMTBSaga I was told that the Schwinn Boundary has a freewheel (and it definitely does) instead of a freehub/cassette like the Axum has, so the Boundary upgrades are more complex. Might have to buy a new rear wheel. Do you know anything about this?

If it is a Shimano driver, then it should fit. I believe its called an HG driver, which is standard on almost all entry level hubs.
@@EvansMTBSaga Thanks a ton... never heard of "driver before"
damn its sold out, i need a groupset and i keep missing out on deals like these
Oh dang it is! I didn't even realize that when I was getting the link just now. The description says more will be available soon.
There is still one on eBay for $175.
Hey man where did you get a spare derailleur hanger for the axum from?
Derailleurhanger.com Hanger #399
On stock wheel? So 11 speed can fit? I was wondering if the shimano 11speed 11 - 51 but no one know for sure if it could fit.
Yeah its an HG driver body so could even fit 12 speed with the appropriate derailleur, shifter, and chain
Nice!
If you’re ever in the Yuma area and wanna ride tricked out Schwinn Axum DP’s for a future video, let me know. Subscribed. Send it!!!
Is there a clutch on that derailleur that comes on it?
Nope!

You don't have to clean a brand new chain dude
Oh man the factory chains come with some nasty, low quality grease that is like a magnet for dirt. That's why I clean them.
@@EvansMTBSaga huh, I didn't know that, though in not really surprised
nice!
