Very cool. We have great wifi (and a nice place) and get a lot of hikers through who are documenting their trip.

I am so grateful to you for helping my hiking buddy Bailout last year when her husband had the scary head injury. You were so kind. You hostel is so beautiful, more like a B&B than a hostel. One of the nicest on the trail.
BTW I climbed Katahdin on September 22nd. Bailout was able to fly out to join me several times and did about 700 miles of the trail with me including Katahdin.

Interesting. My wife and I have discussed moving to Costa Rica over the last 2 years. But lately I keep thinking I would enjoy running a hostel. We are both introverted, so your comment was on point. I start my thru hike in 15 days so one of my goals is to see the different hostels. But, I am concerned about the Norovirus in the south so now thinking of not doing any hostels until further north. :(

Lovely. Chica and Sunsets gets nothing but high praise up and down the trail.
Unfortunately not every hostel along the AT is run with a friendly attitude. I remember in March some years ago, with the temperatures below freezing, somebody basically rented out their garden shack.
An older gentleman was really suffering from an under dimensioned sleeping bag and he asked for a heater as the temperatures inside the shack were the same as outside.
A lady reluctantly brought him one and told him that normally it would be 20 dollars extra per night but she was afraid that he may die because of the cold and that this could affect her business/side hustle in a negative way.

Wow! 😯 Yep, we experienced some not so great hostels on our hike as well. 🙁

Oh no, that’s terrible. Luckily, with FarOut comments hikers can get an idea of where to, and not to, stay.
      Thanks for the kind words.

I hiked the AT in…2020. Would have loved to stay at your hostel! There was a place in Franklin that found a “loophole” to the short term accommodation shut down. Managed to stay there, then shuttle around the closed Smokies.

I miss seeing your videos of the hikers. I would love to chat with you about making a hostel. I’m up in Vermont and bought a home a few years ago. I am aiming at opening my home to be a hostel. Right now it’s just Tramily staying here trying to complete the trail.

It’s tough fitting in the interviews into our busy day. Also, we are not doing breakfast anymore so that natural time to video after breakfast no longer exists.
I’m happy to answer hostel questions via email if you like. Sunsets@chicaandsunsets.com.

Pretty sure i meet sunset on sunday 3/17/24 up on route 64 up above wayah bald at the rest area. I was there in my velocity blue colored 2023 Chevy Colorado trail boss truck chatting with some thru hikers when you had arrived at that parking lot to pick up a couple of hikers.

Great point. We received a ton of help in the form of donations of money, supplies, and physical help. This in addition to all those who pre-purchased stays and packages in the beginning to help offset the cost of construction. The support of the hiking community and our friends is amazing.
