I think what matters is a good balance between practice, technique and brush, at least for me. Think about it, if you're trying to use a brush that you've seen other artists use and recommend, but your technique isn't there due to lack of practice, then it doesn't matter what brush you're using. Brushes don't work miracles unless you've practiced enough to have a good technique.
I started using pencil graphite for colouring from your videos and it had made my life SO MUCH EASIER hair is still a bit on an issue since I usually end up drawing hyper realistic portraits so I have these two brushes I found once on Pinterest that do well. I struggle more with colours and colour theory😀 so yeah, watercolor opaque is a brush I use in smudge and blur sometimes depending on where I need to blend, also blur tool in graphite, soft pastel and watercolor real with different opacity work wonders for me while blending

Honestly I kinda agree with that , starting with a new medium is really hard , often times you are gonna be bad at it or some things work out for you that won't for others , it really it's more so a matter of experementing imo , kinda like how if you get a new type of pen your hand writing's gonna be wonky for a bit before it improves as you get used to the pen

I think the "brush doesn't matter" thing depends on your artstyle. If your artstyle is about using water colors, then of course the brush matters. It's litteray like the real brushes: you can draw stuff with one brush, but other brushes allow you to do more(other) stuff.
I'm so glad I'm not the one who uses ibispaint 😭 and honestly this is gonna help so much when I do hair because ngl I was having that type of struggle for a while hair was just a huge pain to me x-x but now this is definitely gonna make my life more easier ❤ thank you for the tip frfr :D

Watercolor + gouache brushes are always my way to go... Mostly with the skin for meh.. Guess gotta try that with hair now
