The Dreaming, for me, is one of the most artistically brave and uniquely brilliant albums ever made. I adore it deeply.
Completely agree!
One of my favorite albums to blast in the car.
If I could only have one, The Dreaming is the one.
I bought this when I was 16 , rushed home from college ..and played it to death on my parents loud stereo .My mum caught me singing out loud and dancing like a tribesman in the lounge she said "You're weird "! . I'm 54 now , and she still thinks I'm weird ! But all these years later...I still Love Kate Bush ! :)
dont ever change m8 !! :)
Totally agree with you 👍
im 16 now and all the years after this record was released i feel exactly the same!
Awsome 🤘
I always thought about a Franck Herbert's Dune inspiration
Same thing for me, but I just couldn't dance this, sorry : D
Anyway, I still enjoy listenning to her
dreaming is a work of art way ahead of its time
I've been properly listening some of her albums lately, never got around to it before even though I always liked her. I particularly love this song! She is a bit batshit but in a good way!
Yup, it’s genius.
Check out Rolf Harris' Sunarise for a source of inspiration for Kate.
This masterpiece has been the trailblazer for Björk's Human Behaviour
surely this was one of björks inspirations.
What more can you ask for? Weird and wonderful - she sings them, she writes them, she produces them, she plays keyboards on them, she looks good, she sings well and she organises imaginative videos. The consummate artist. She is like no-one and no-one can be like her.
I think also BjÖRK is that kind of summit creator like her - totally weirdly unique..(exc my engl-I'm french!)
" All is full of love" by her is just amazing...As Kate she's amazing too -maybe a little less "weird" than the lady from the b ig North...what you think well it is silly to compare I know.;lol
@@Hung895 true, Kate and bjork are literally perfect, they write, produce, sing, and are creative directors of their own work; I still s
think homogenic is ahead of our time, it was so good
She's an incredible dancer too!
so true
I like that they literally pull the Bush as she sings "pull of the bush." 2:44
I keep hearing people say "she was ahead of her time", But they're wrong; she is timeless
I love her music as much now as I did then
Just substitute "ore" for "oil" and work "Nigeria" in with the lyrics somewhere. Timeless.
For sure there is no Gaga without Kate Bush, for just one example.
Certainly she is peerless.
"Bird impersonator Percy Edwards provided sheep noises." What an odd piece of trivia.
"Well I mostly do birds love but I'll give it a crack!"
Ithink Rolf Harris played the didge on this
LOL

"The Dreaming" is my favorite Kate Bush album. It's beyond brilliant.
Mine too! It's truly an album unlike anything else.
Gonna tell the kids this is Dune (1984)
lol. The Best.
The first album she produced entirely on her own and it shows, utter genius. And it led the way to the other wonders that were to follow.

Sophie!
Her best album in my opinion - its production is still fantastic, even visionary and yet to be matched, and I just love it - she was 21 when she wrote and produced it, which blows my mind - when i was 21 i could barely wipe my own arse!😂
Kick inside her best ❤
😂😂😂😂 you’ve made me laugh.
She’s an otherworldly beauty in every way possible. Genius. She wrote The Kick Inside at 13
@Hermionepaws She wrote, " The man with the child in eye's " When she was 13. The rest of " The kick inside" album was written when she was older.
First time I heard the song and watched the video, I was like: "I love weird stuff, but this is too fucking much"
Now I'm doing the choreo and singing the back vocals vividly
Everybody talking about her genius or innovativeness, Im just here hypnotized by her hip swivels.
This woman fascinates me
Can I be fascinated and hypnotized by both?
🤣🍷
I meaaan I was gonna be modest about it buuut...
haha imagine discovering this woman as talent scout or whatever, I mean you'd know you just won the lottery, same goes with cyndi lauper or dolly parton, they just got it all
A masterpiece not only in pop music but also the art of music videos.
yes its dance-theatre, bringing pictures ,emotions, stories to life. I bed, if she would perform today or nowadays ,the halls would be full. She was so incredibly blessed with fantasy and imagination besides her music. Thats why I love to see the videos she and her people created.
Even for Kate Bush, a genius at overlaying music and meaning, the depth of this song is amazing, one of her best. The alliteration of poetry ("erase the race that claims the place", etc) and the rhythm of an oil derrick.....who writes music with such complexity? Nobody I can think of except Kate Bush!
Sounds Gaellic.
@@gregmucha1402Yes she is Irish and there’s alot of that in there on all her albums.
This is heavily influenced with Aboriginal music and was filmed in Australia ❤
I knew the Australia part since it is what the song is actually about. But I didn't know she's Irish!
@@gregmucha1402Half Irish on her Mum’s side .Her Dad was an English Doctor ..
There is no such thing as "half Irish" on our mother's side. That's as good as having red hair and freckles. Touch a drop of alcohol and the deal is sealed!
My god. I have tried to be a creative writer, but the imagination that produced this is just ..... beyond my imagination! And no, this is not just some weird pop music freakout event. There is thought and direction behind this. Which is why it appeals.
hi...long time go... shes wearing 'still suit' from 'DUNE' the desert planet..by frank herbert .a great author .hope your writing is something your still doing... remember that "to be something you must accept the fact that you are that something' say what you are and own it! now . you can BE a WRITER!
So we'll expressed I wish I had said that. Her imagination IS beyond imagining.
Cuz being weird for the sake of it is never the right way, it's all about the music.
Totally get it! I’ve been a professional jazz keyboardist/composer and classical composer my entire adult life, but Kate’s artistic and highly innovative genius completely slays me. (Since rediscovering her in my “advanced” years, I actually find myself listening to her stuff more than my usual “fair” for not only artistic but creative inspiration.).
this song is RACIST lol

Wow, Kate Bush preceded Björk by about 15 years at least...
I know Kate Bush was a major source of inspiration for Björk., but the fact that this sort of music was made by a rather well known musician back then, and it almost managed to be kind of successful, amazes me.
iLikeTheUDK Bjork has actually listed The Dreaming as one of her favorite albums of all-time!! She’s also touted Kate Bush as one of her heroes as well!
And Noosha Fox predated Kate by two years,....nudge ..nudge.
Kind of successful? It charted everywhere, and managed 3 on the UK album list.
Did you know that Björk's first recording was an album called 'Björk', and it was released about two months before 'The Kick Inside'?
@@chim-choo-ree that was a cover album she did while she was a child. it wasn't her original music
Being an Aussie I am still amazed by Kate's lyrics and expressive imagery. It feels like she has lived the outback of Australia.🤔
Bowie came here the year after for Let's Dance and strong views on Aboriginal culture, racism and seperation.
One thing, though.
Shouldn't it really be "bang goes another kanga on the bonnet of the ute"?
Van? Aussies don't drive vans. The ol' utility vehicle. Ute.
@@klaxoncowCommon outback vehicles (pre1982) Landrover , Ute, Combi Van, Japanese vans not ideal for kangaroo territory but were there as they offered a place to sleep inside.
Combi vans were very popular I grew up with a car full of us teenagers heading to the beach, surf boards on-top, outback would be more organised, water, spare fuel can, camping essentials and pray you made it on rough roads. Outback farmers were more the Landrover and Ute.
@@anthgee296 Or indeed "bang goes another kanga on the bonnet of the combi" could work (other than it's one extra syllable for the singing of it).
But plainly calling it a "van" just feels so un-Aussie to me.
I'm italian, and I first listened to Kate Bush in 1978, I was 8. I was mindblown. Since childhood I've always been attracted to weird, ethereal, kind of wrong time signature style songs, with hypnotic percussions, in fact this is one of my favorite songs from her, I was in love straight away and I was just a child. To me Kate Bush is like an elf, a timeless character and musician who'll never run the risk of being forgotten.
what other songs/artists make ethereal music with hypnotic percussions ?
The fact she also did her own choreography most the time makes her videos even better. A true artist
Kate's best album...
A beautiful take on the horror of colonisation, from the perspective of the colonisers. We love you Kate
To the person who said its about nuclear threat (I can't reply to older comments thanks to the stupid new youtube comments):
It's actually about the mistreatment of aboriginal Australians at the hands of european settlers. You're fairly close with the nuclear aspect though, but its referring to the nuclear tests that occured in aboriginal sacred land.
1. The (now not so new) youtube comment policy is CRAP.
2. The English, the French, the Spanish and the Netherlandish(?), raped every "new" territory they came across.
Most successfully the English. That is why we speak their language all over the world. Hail to the RAPERS!
+Marcel Hinz Well that is just the natural order of things.

Kate possesses the most fertile imagination of any visual-musical artist regardless of genre. Laurie Anderson also comes to mind. And there are a few others. But as far as total originality of vision,Kate Bush is unrivaled.
Together with Mike Patton, Frank Zappa and Miles Davis
The thing was, she could also come up with ludicrously catchy tracks that "normal people" could also like. Genius.
The Dreaming is one crazy album.
And that's precisely why it's my favourite of hers.
I thought that she slipped a little bit on Hounds of Love from the majestic heights of Never For Ever and The Dreaming, and every subsequent album was slightly less than the previous album.
REM had similar problems, although I think they hit their peak with their first album Murmur. They really started to slide badly though with Green from 1988.
Fuckin genius
@@mjbachman3027 Who gives a shit about REM? This is a Kate Bush video. "Slipped" on Hounds, eh? I'd put Hounds in my all time top 10 albums. From anybody.
Calm down, Greebo. Jeez Louise.
I’m pretty sure if I told anyone at my school about this song and let them listen to this they would say they don’t know it and that it’s weird. She is so underrated and I love her so much. The only song she is actually known for is Running Up That Hill, which I’m glad got recognition because it’s an amazing song and I listened to it on repeat all day once without getting sick of it! But her other songs like this one need recognition too. ❤️ love Kate Bush
Only the younger generation don't know her music. Apart from the obvious one. Certain cultures within Britain don't know her either. About 10 years ago I was talking to a black work colleague who only knew hip hop and generally, only music performed by black people. He said he doesn't know who Kate Bush is. So I played him 'This Woman's Work' and he said 'Nah bruv, Maxwell wrote that'. Nobody will know who Maxwell is in a century but Kate Bush will continue to find new listeners.
@@DudeSilad bro ur mad corny, his music taste has little to do with his race. U sound like that was ur first time talking to a black person if im honest.
And music genres aren’t exclusive, I am for 1 - black and 2 - listen to both Kate bush as well as hip hop 3- young (hence the name of my yt channel) . im in this comment section for a reason
dumbest comment I’ve read in ages
I think that's a disservice saying she's only known for Running Up That Hill. Perhaps to your generation, but not to those of us brought up in the 70s and early 80s
Kids are always like that in all generations unfortunately.
I shoulda known Kate Bush would be the one to make a proper Dune movie before anyone else

Well said - I was lucky enough to work at a record store, and I have gobs of KB collectible vinyl, zines, boxed-sets. Her music was a balm when my young adult life was making me crazy. So glad so many are now re-discovering her genius.

I have a feeling Björk was influenced by Kate Bush.
First 5 KB albums are her best!
Kate, as an Australian, thank you!
Kate Bush is an absolute goddess.
I think it's brilliant how there are artists like Kate Bush and Bjork pushing the boundaries and creating different, exciting music and videos. If only more people would acknowledge the beauty of this stuff. While mainstream music can offer up some cool things, it's only in more unusual places you can find songs of this quality!

I’m listening to Kate Bush step by step because if I listen to everything at once my life will be empty of amazing discoveries music wise. She is terribly terribly underrated, but society was never ready for her genius and still isn’t.
I've been on a Kate Bush binge this last months aswell! and I also took my time between albums to really let them soak in. Thing is: I already went through her whole discog and I can't listen to anything else. Like, my whole musical taste has reduced to her music.
Sometimes I miss discovering new music, but it just so happens that Kate's music is so addictive. It's just album after album of top quality. Her creativity, her fearlessness and her humility, even though she's been on the spotlight for a long time and from such a young age, is still refreshing after all this years.
Kate Bush has absolutely never been underrated.
@@SR-xo9kl she wasn't very much famous worldwide. And I know that for a fact, because outside USA and Europe, the general public from the 80s doesn't even know her by name. So yes, she is underrated.
I always heard her name but never cared, i heard Babooshka as the background of a short video, everybody was talking about the song, so i decided to listen, since then everything else is boring
" terribly terribly underrated" - Jesus Christ! She's regarded as a goddess by vast swathes of the music loving world.
I was in high school of 07 when I heard this song. I thought it was the strangest song I ever heard, was lucky to come across her again now that I'm 33 and I have been listening to her for about a week now. This by far is my favorite kate bush song as it was the first one I ever heard.
When you see singers of today using wearable headsets.. Kate bush was the very first artist to do that!😊
Yup, she actually invented it. Made one out of a wire coat hanger for her 1979 live tour, so she could have free hands for dancing. Clever lady.

I've never been a giant Kate Bush fan but I remember seeing this video as a young preteen kid in the early 80's and the song made a huge impression on me and I never forgot it. I grew up as a songwriter in a band and I can say this song was definitely impressionable to me from the first listen. Definitely ahead of it's time in my opinion. It's great to come onto youtube years later and pull it up anytime I want when it was a rarity to see this video or hear this song back in the start of the MTV days.
WAYYY BEFORE WALKING DEAD THERE WAS ... KATE BUSH MANY YEARS AGO .. AND I WAS THERE HEARING HER LIVE ... :)
Oh my gosh. Now there’s a songwriter and singer who did it without sounding like today like a formulaic singer from a machine. A true deep songwriter who is true to her conviction. Love her so much xxx

if you don't love all her albums...just wait a little longer, age a little more, grow a little wiser, hone in your taste buds..and eventually you will
did kate and cyndi lauper ever make anything together? that'd have been insane, so ahead of her time, great thing about this video is it feels raw rather than how other videos feel like acted out movies, this feels more intimate like watching a stage performance
My ex once spent months digitally cleaning up a vhs copy of The Single File and putting it onto dvd just because he knew I liked Kate Bush. He was like "can I borrow the cassette" and on my birthday he gave me the cassette back with a dvd.

I'm surprised a lot of people say the video to "Wuthering Heights" is creepy. This video is nightmare-material for me. Especially when the dancer talks under the ground at the end. But that still doesn't change my love for this song or the whole album itself. Love it to pieces.

'Bang!' goes another kanga on the bonnet of the van
See the light bounce off the rocks to the sand
You find them in the road
See the light ram through the gaps in the land
In the road
See the light
Push 'em from the
Pull of the Bush
See the light bounce off the rocks to the sand
Push 'em from the
Pull of the Bush
See the sun set in the hand of the man

Interesting that Australia is now the model for the NWO.
Kanga??? Like in Winnie the Pooh??
Surreal!
Thank you. Art helps us cope. This is brilliant.
I don't know why, but this song has been my earworm for more than a week.
Kate was the soundtrack of my youth
One of the finest audio productions I've ever heard
Absolutely brilliant! So ahead of its time
easily one of the best mighty boosh songs.
My very favorite album. I was a unique 8 year old
I think it was opportune that Kate began making music right around the time music videos exploded. She’s never been one for doing concerts, likely because she can create her complete artistic vision much more effectively with videos.
I guess you've never seen her live. I was lucky enough to witness her only 2 live shows: the Tour of Life in 1978 and "Before the Dawn" in 2014. Two different experiences I will always remember. So it's true she didn't do much on stage, but what she achieved was unforgetable, I can tell. This woman's a genius!
You have to ask, where are we going to find someone today like Kate, who had the songs, the vision and the energy to create and do things like this?!
This is My best Kate'song
. Now, I love this song.
I had to listen to this song quite a few times, but its starting to grow on me now. The Dreaming is definitely an acquired taste for me but all good music gets better with time.
I'll second that
kate is a true original and legend in my humble opinion - a brave and massively talented uber babe - the kick inside - was the first lp I ever bought - and i wish i had it still - as and end note - nothing even remotely compares - with this underrated piece -
F*ckin' genius! So unique, so Kate, no one can deny her place at the top of the list of greatest musical innovators of all time!
A true creative genius...we will never see her like again.
Kate Bush is a genre on Her own. Completely original
What I like is, with the particular accent she uses, "on the motorway" sounds like "on the murderway" and "you'll find them in the road" sounds like "you'll find them in the ore" ; both which add a huge dimension to this song
I thought she was singing "in the raw" meaning naked , as they go "walkabout "..
i can't stop revisiting this jam
Her music is soo empowering! I love her so much!
I remember the first time I watch this, I was under a spell I still am and always will be. Man what a genius
She's so amazing!
***** You remind me of someone also a kate fan
WalkingBlues I was KateBushFrenchfan. But my account was deleted. I'm back with another username. Maybe the username was the problem...
***** ahhh, I was wondering what happened to you, I thought you just deleted your comments
WalkingBlues I had no reason to do that ;)
One of the very fist videos I saw in the early 80's. I didn't know what to think but I was mesmerized, sheer brilliance and originality!
everytime it is pointed that she is the first exentric female songwritter and that Bjork and liz fraser and Tori Amos or Florence machine , bat for lashes or Imogen heap and all related singers come directly from her influence, that s indeed a very accurate description of her legacy.
Björk is quoted as saying The Dreaming is actually her favorite Kate Bush album. A true innovator and definitely one of the great pioneers of Art pop.
To be fair, Kate is far from the first 'eccentric' female songwriter. Check out the likes of Meredith Monk, Annette Peacock, Nico, Yoko Ono (her early 70s output especially), etc, along with punk/post-punk groups like the Slits and the Raincoats. Where Kate differs perhaps is that, like Scott Walker, she started out with a more mainstream sound and took herself off into strange musical places after establishing her career. Contemporary music would be a much lesser place without Kate's influence that's certainly true.
I was listening to this song yesterday during jogging in the dark park. I was running very fast.
I'm trying to decide if this is the best thing in the world ever
It IS
I bought this album 40 years ago.
I grew up with Kate Bush being playing on my dad's record player, so I don't really know when I first heard her! What I do remember is singing this song in the playground, not knowing what it was about - Still love it today
I absolutely adore this track ! Its brilliant & quirky as only Kate can be. Its true as a previous commenter said, she was miles ahead of her time, our time, th worlds time. Ive loved kates music since Wuthering Hights & from then to now her music is timeless & iv STILL not heard a single musical genious to touch her. She'll always be a star of highest magnitude
This is a powerful song. She's really cool.
A real artist who paved the way for so many in music
I absolutely love her uniqueness 😊❤️👏
What a remarkable work of art!!! Kate Bush was indeed way before her time!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It's 2022 & this is still as fantastic as it is weird.
