This is more than my childhood. As an adult now, and after hearing this song 100s of times, this is heaven. This song has been playing in the back of my head my whole life. I will always love this song and Enya.
She looks so childlike innocent, beautiful like a fairy, and sounds so divine..her songs, music and picturization are simply much ahead of time and out of this world. She was not born but was incarnated by angels.
The first time I heard Orinoco Flow I was maybe 10-11y old (born 1980). My father had the original Watercolor vinyl disc (still at my mom's and I forbid her to throw it away). My father loved Enya and he introduced me to her otherworldly songs. He died in 1996, motorbike accident. This would've been our wedding dance father daughter song and, every time I hear it, I cry and think of him in an endearing way. By far, Orinoco Flow is my favourite. Sending love to everyone who listens to it. 💜
I remember as a child back in 1989 hearing this song on the radio, it fascinated me so much that I couldn't stop listening to it, I got goosebumps, I was about 12 years old, today is September 2, 2023, it still fascinates me even more than thirty-four years ago Enya, I thank you a million for composing this authentic marvel and in a million years we will continue to be fascinated, thank you
Same here, I remember hearing this song on the radio or a TV , commercial.... Wow ! beautiful song..!! I didn't learn how to use a computer 🖥️, until 2012, .....so I was able to Google,a lot of my favorite songs.... and some from TV commercials.... 😊
I remember when this song was released and was on the charts here in the United States. I absolutely loved it, and I loved the video. It wasn't like anything else that was on the charts at the time. Here I am 36 years later and I still love it. Enya is a lovely, talented woman.
I know this will sound a bit corny, but this music in therapy helped me a great deal with my PTSD after the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan. Yeah, I know, but the 'musicology" settled my soul and had me in a good place. I now listen to it in traffic, in the marketplace and when I want to tune out the world and my town. It really helps calm me.
I don't care what anyone says, I love Enya's music and this is my favorite song from her! My best friend and I used to listen to this along with a few of her other songs when we were kids. Someone added this song to their Sonic 3 hack lol.
I first heard this song through the static of my car radio in the early 90's and immediately began searching for it, but failed repeatedly. I even bought a White Snake CD at a music store because it had a track on it called "Sail Away," but it wasn't the right song. Fast forward ten years. I got a 3rd shift job and was having a hard time sleeping during the day, so I walked into this tiny music shop that I happened to pass on my way home from somewhere. The store was dark and the only person in it was an odd looking middle-aged woman with piercing green eyes. I told her I needed something relaxing to help me sleep and she said she had just the thing. The woman disappeared and came back with an album called "Watermark" by an artist I had never heard of named Enya. I decided to give it a shot, but when I tried to pay for it she told me the store was closed, (thus the darkness,) and the register was already shut down so I could just take it. On my way home I popped it in. The fourth song, "Storms in Africa," stirred something in my soul, but when I got to track 7 and "Orinoco Flow" played I nearly crashed my car. I had not heard the song even _once_ since that time 10 years earlier, and here it was, without the static, enchantingly beautiful, and free! I decided the next time I was in that town I'd go back and thank that lady profusely and buy every Enya album there was in the store! But when I finally made it back out there 6 months later, the little music shop had vanished and was replaced by a drug store. The whole experience was odd. If it wasn't for the fact that I still have the CD I would think the whole thing was a dream.
flirtwithapokerface Yeah, I didn't know what Whitesnake was. Back then FYE and Strawberries music stores had these mini computers in the aisles. You entered the name of the song you were looking for and it told you what album it was on. There was no way to sample the track before hand. I was way off!
***** I think somebody must have told her that too, because "Sail Away" is tacked on in parenthesis after _Orinico Flow_ on the CD. Maybe the phrase _Orinico Flow_ means something to her personally, and she didn't want to call it Sail Away, even though it would make the song harder to find.
Some people love to bag on Enya because its very tonally soft. But this song represents such an impressive feat of multi channel audio and mixing, anyone who is serious about music recording has to respect it. Regardless of whether or not Enya is your thing, this song is a masterpeice.
I was thinking exactly the same ! I use this track to demo on Hi-Fi systems or Hometheaters. This track has it all ! Excellent to compare music quality on subwoofers. Speed, thickness, low frequencies extension !
I know absolutely nothing about music and audio stuff. I just know this song has an incredible power for soothing and relaxing, and at the same time I'd say it's rather upbeat. Perfect :)
I also believe that staying with Roma and Nicky for over 30-35 years played a huge role. They all grew together in their skill set. Huge fan....musically and technically.
Can you imagine ANYTHING like this getting into the charts today....never mind being a No.1 hit!? In these chaotic and conflicted times, beautiful calming and ethereal music like this is exactly what the world needs! Time has only made me appreciate Enya MORE because of how totally unique and timeless her music is.
My husband and I had traveled in the world for one year, 1983-84. It wasn't the norm yet in the USA, but our friends and family were accepting of our world travels. When I heard this song, it brought back memories of places we had been. I love this song! TY
Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.
She is as big as U2 !! Back in the late 80s and early 90s she was the best Irish performer. I love Clannad, Cocteau Twins as well. If you don’t know them, then please try to listen to them. Specially Clannad.
That is not right that Enya is depreciated for her invaluable songs. They are a testament to a harmonious life. At the same time, the public prefers to hear junk songs. Enya has had some wonderful music that should be appreciated by everyone.
One of the greatest orchestrations in musical history. One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The strength, and majesty of this song is undeniable, yet it's free. NO COMMERCIAL FOR THIS EPIC MELODY .
They used to play this in my kindergarten class when it was nap time and I’ve always thought about it but nobody else seemed to remember this song. Im glad I wasn’t imagining it!
This song was my Grandma’s chosen song at her funeral, 7 months ago. I had never heard it before then being only 23, but I now love Enya’s songs and this one brings a tear to my eye every single time I hear it 💔
When I’m deep into my painting, I play this song, from Peru to Cebu to the eyes of Babylon, I’m from the Philippine Islands and for Cebu Island to be included in the song is a great tribute to one of the many awesome, paradise like Islands here in the Philippines. I’m involuntarily singing while painting. Thank You Enya.
When i saw this video for the first time on mtv around 1988 or 89 i was blown away and so happy . Music was so diverse in those days everthing sounded new and unfamiliar. Loved it
The mystical, beautiful lady with her enchanting voice, who transports you to a magical, far away destination.. Enya is the Goddess of Ireland... So proud of her.
Ever listened to or felt anything more ethereal than this offering from Enya before AI replaces 'all that we know'? We're extremely fortunate to not have been born too soon or a tick too late in the expanse of time to bask in the pure melodic soothing of the soul that Enya delivers for us to appreciate. You've blown us away once again Enya with an 'internal peace' that will most assuredly transcend all that life's trials will send our way. May you guide us tomorrow and well on into the future...
I remember the year 1991, it was Christmas and I went up to the mountains to ski on the bus; this song sounded; I was 14 years old and it touched my heart. One day in class I asked a friend of mine if he knew who the author was and he told me Enya. Thank you Enya for your work. A greeting from Spain
Ireland was always to me , like a mystic Island , magical with leprechauns and little people that live in those Irish woods , and Enya's music , reassures me , that these creatures really exist . Her music is unique .
When I heard the song for the first time, my mother and we 3 children fled from the romanian revolution in 1989, then this song came and somehow I knew everything would be fine, I was 4 and my brothers 5 and 6 years old, my mother was so strong and has mastered it all alone like much in her life, mom i love you , and thx ❤❤❤
What a lovely comment! You're blessed with a strong willed mother who loves you dearly. I was blessed with such a Mother she passed away two years ago.. My siblings and I are still heartbroken our father was just as kind and loving he's gone too. Cherish those you love while they're alive.
Time is so important. No human being is immune to the seconds that pass by as we age. This song by Enya, I feel it captures near perfectly the very essence of why time is so very important to all of us.
As i am seeing, people spend years and years to find this song, after the impression it left them. Thats a new level of music leaving a mark to one's soul
Ma plus belle histoire d'amour finis par une trahison c'est la vie continue je suis triste mais c'est la vie continue la personne va se reconnaître 😭🐕😘
It's amazing how a song can take you back to other times. When I hear this I remember how I felt at that time. I had forgotten this song. I can take a deep breath and i'm there.
Enya was my dad's favorite. We'd come home with mom and he'd be blasting Orinoco Flow on the hifi. I could never mourn his death, because of how painful the last few years were with him. But I'll be blasting Enya next January 4th in his memory and grieving for him like he deserves.
I mean you release a song like this, just one song this good and you're set for life, most artist can't even come up with one good song their whole life.
This song cheered me up when I was living alone in San Diego and was not doing too well. Thank you miss Enya for your uplifting gifts of music and song.
Ever since I was a little girl I have had the same dream over and over again of swimming in an ancient pool with this song playing! The closet thing I can describe heaven in a sense.
That sounds amazing. Ancient pool - like in a roman bath or something? :) I agree that sounds heaven, just chilling like that, no worries, relaxing, perhaps a bit of reading or something whilst in the warm waters :) :P
This is one of my favorite songs by Enya. The songs that this woman does are rather soothing to me, especially when I am in an unnerving situation. What's funny is when I had outpatient surgery in a hospital (where I underwent general anesthesia), I was permitted to listen to my music on my iPod in the OR, all on my iPod and noise canceling headphones. I was still listening to this wonderful Enya song when I had awakened in the recovery room. Thanks Enya for keeping me calm eleven years ago when I would go under the knife in the hospital!
I'm a big fan of her. She obviously has something divine in her. What a voice! Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Life in a nutshell. Timeless and eternal.
I can play this song when I’m happy, when I’m confused, angry, need to clear my mind.. this song is the sound of angels singing literally on repeat thank you
Can we all appreciate for a moment just how mesmerizing this video is? It fits the song perfectly. Something about that old sail ship at 0:47 takes me to a distant time and place, where the world was still new and full of many different, magnificent, and unexplored places to discover and see...
If you look carefully at the Bows of the Ship she has a Dragon for a Figurehead with large Wings, the Figurehead is covered by Gold Leaf that would make it shine in the Sunlight with only its eyes, mouth and tongue painted in colours like green, black and red to make it seem otherworldly and yet realistic as possible...but weather the Sailing Ships were for Exploration...... or ....other more.....nefarious reasons...they left a lasting impression that was not always positive.....
Even in the present time, in the year 2022, this song fits very well again. it will always be a song of hope. a song about the end of suffering. whether war or peace, this song is there and lets us pause for a moment. remind us of past atrocities, but it also lets us end with them. ❤❤❤
Well it's funny how diverse our music preferences are because I've always disliked this song. I can think of a dozen bands I would rather listen to. ABBA being my number one.
MrHoundDog Me also, my sis and I would listen to this together when I was a kid, she is basically my mom, and she got a kick out of how much I liked it being that it had been out 8 years by then and I was so little. Anyways, she passed ten years ago.
Orinoco Flow by Enya is a song/music video that will always remain very special to me, safely tucked in a specialised compartment in my heart. I first saw and heard it sometime in 1992 as a 7 y/o on local tv after I arrived home from school. I grew up poor, but I was quite rich in imagination. Geography happened to be one of my favourite subjects plus I also yearned to travel the world which was why the song instantly resonated with me so much the first time I heard/saw it. Almost 2 decades later or when the opportunity presented itself, I finally travelled the world. And, yes, I experienced sailing away through a few cruises in the Caribbean and elsewhere. Been to at least 38 countries thus far. I hope to explore the world some more in the future if life circumstances and finances will permit it. Dream on. You'll also sail away, through hard work and/or opportunities, someday.
@@vjreimedia Hip Hop was around long before Enya came along and it’s not “going down.” Hip hop has a long legacy of talented hardworking people. It was the music of the streets, an evolution of Jazz and was cheeper to make because often the people making it didn’t have as much money. What made it bad was when major labels started churning it out because of its affordability but watered it down in both message and quality. When I was in music school, I met world class composers and performers who all had a great amount of respect for hip hop but were generally irritated by the lack of respect and misinformation put out about it. The reason an artist like Enya is so amazing isn’t just her amazing talent but also she has far great access to resources to make the level of music that she does and also she has been given a lot more freedom to do her own thing. These are few privileges most hip hop artists could ever dream about. I would argue that bubble gum pop and boy bands have done far more damage to the music industry.
@@sweeney60 than you for this as a African American we often hear in round about way "we ruined this or it was nice until we. got our hands on it" mean while everyone wants our words our clothing our music our features our very culture just not the ppl attached to them. the problem is generalized pop and the labels that sign artist and force them to just make "hits" there's no creativity or freedom that's why u can take any pop country song and layer it over any other and it will match there's seems to me a "pop template" that is so widely used and all songs and artists now sound the same. but it seems some ppl want to blame a group of ppl instead

We listened to this song too much in Brazil. And we can still hear it in relaxing radio stations.
Enya's songs are so gentle, soothing, makes me happy to listen to her songs. Forget what makes you uncomfortable 🥰
Such Incredible beauty in this song. It's no surprise that you feel this way. It's just special.
An absolutely amazing woman. Does ALL her own singing, instruments, recording, editing and never EVER tours. I have loved her for years and years!
She never needed to tour! I have the feeling that Enya has always been true to herself.
She never dared to sing it live. Because it would look bad, her entire voice has an echo effect, even the instrumentation, at least it has a melody.
@@ginoboop3221 she did sing it live a few times she played it live on top of the pops and the late late show an Irish programme
It's my favorite song of the 1980s. A very close second is "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac.
Sorry about your loss honey. Your dad sounds like a good man and I'm sure he would be proud of you.
Sending love back at you ❤

@@sonikku1011 I absolutely love this song. It’s it’s just beautiful.
+StormSong8 i know the feeling i have always thought of her voice as a dream
flirtwithapokerface Yeah, I didn't know what Whitesnake was. Back then FYE and Strawberries music stores had these mini computers in the aisles. You entered the name of the song you were looking for and it told you what album it was on. There was no way to sample the track before hand. I was way off!
What a beautiful enchanting story!!
Caleb Hoo True, thanks for saying so. I feel all cozy down to this day when I think of it.
This song sounds better than great. That is why I love to hear it at happy times. It is sweet-sounding.
Enya is like ABBA you might not like the piece but you have to admit the production values are stunning in this case of course I like it.

Can you imagine ANYTHING like this getting into the charts today....never mind being a No.1 hit!? Time has only made me appreciate Enya MORE because of how totally unique and timeless her music is.
Try some gregorian chants. Yes the world needs more of this timeless stuff. Classical music fits the bill as well.
My husband and I had traveled in the world for one year, 1983-84. It wasn't the norm yet in the USA, but our friends and family were accepting of our world travels. When I heard this song, it brought back memories of places we had been. I love this song! TY

In my opinion, Enya is one of the most under appreciated musical talents of the 20th century.
That’s bollocks
Bro you’re crazy. She is Ireland's best-selling solo artist and second-best-selling artist behind U2, with a discography that has sold 26.5 million certified albums in the United States and an estimated 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Just because you don’t know much about her doesn’t mean she’s under appreciated.
@@rustyshackleford7404 Maybe after Sinead O'Connor?
She is as big as U2 !! Back in the late 80s and early 90s she was the best Irish performer.

That is not right that Enya is depreciated for her invaluable songs. They are a testament to a harmonious life. At the same time, the public prefers to hear junk songs. Enya has had some wonderful music that should be appreciated by everyone.

I captivated 🤩 as a child watching her music videos she sounds so angelic and I’ve always loved her music. Over 30 years ago how time flies!
Can we all appreciate for a moment just how mesmerizing this video is? It fits the song perfectly. Something about that old sail ship at 0:47 takes me to a distant time and place, where the world was still new and full of many different, magnificent, and unexplored places to discover and see...
I was just going to say the same myself. A beautiful video to match the equally beautiful song. Love the slow motion humming bird too.

I feel like people complained about a lack of originality in the musical industry and Enya said, “hold my tea.”
