“Random switch pressing won’t fix any boiler” I’ve been trying it for years! 😂
Every customer: I’ve reset it four times.
Me: Why?
EC: I thought it would fix itself.
Me: Did it?
EC: Er, no.
@@maxmerton Yep. I used to random switch press a lot. I know better now unless I'm losing the will to live. :-)
I still do it
It's like yeah maybe the switches are Dodgy even tho deep down you know they aren't
I actually cracked up watching that bit, got funny looks from the missus, she doesn't understand 🤣
These jobs are worst when the phones going none stop! Or mrs calling asking why I'm not replying to her txt etc! As she thinks I just sit in my van all day on my phone
:-0 My wife gets it now. That used to be a problem 10 years ago. :-)
I feel your pain brother😂😂👍
Been waiting for this vid every day since part 1
Sorry. I have loads going on. :-(
Great advice was sitting in the van today after leaving a job and went back into the job to do a little more investigation . Well worth every time. Don't keep us waiting as long for the next 1 👨🔧👍
I wont. :-)
Great video Ollie, been waiting for this since seeing part 1. You are the business 👊 mate. Everyone finds themselves in sort of situation, totally frustrating, getting stressed. Fare play to you bud, you didn't kick off at all.🔥👋. Really looking forward to part 3.🌟
Thanks. It is very close so hopefully I will get it done over the weekend. :-)
Very impressive. I would have quit where you started. I’m a tech in the States and learn a ton of information from your videos. Keep the videos coming. Great job.
Spread the work. I need some more subs on the other side of the pond. :-) Thanks for commenting.
I have been there. Stress levels rising. Sit back check manual etc. Well done. Great video. Perseverance.
The stress is what makes it all worse.:-)
Nice to see someone that doesn't give up with the harder jobs, great video's 👍
Thanks 👍 I do try. :-)
Your a quality engineer and a credit to the industry.
Little mistakes happen, that’s how I learn😂
Thanks :-) Its how we all learn. :-)
How complicated can it be. Love your honesty. Been there
I still like that boiler. What a relic :-)
Been waiting for this video. Nice one and love the honesty... Can’t wait for the next one 👍
Thanks :-) It should be with you a bit quicker this time :-)
Great video mate you have the patience of a saint 😇 loved the honesty 👏
It was stressful to edit it tbh. :-) Brought back all the memories.
Brilliant video as always, can't wait for your next one.
Coming soon! Editing it today. Hopefully for the weekend
All good caring Tech's have been in the same position over the years.
I got that feeling just editing it.
Thanks Ollie, very enjoyable viewing. Warts & all, you’re very skilled at your job & I’m sure I’m not the only one with years of experience in this Trade to recognise it. Your presentation is insightful & compelling.
What fabulous appliances, looking at these boilers is reminiscent of a Ship’s Engine Room, they’re just bullet proof!!
Perhaps, you can understand what it was like installing these 40 years ago, it was a step into the unknown for us old farts.
We were used to fitting BBU’s, Oil & Solid Fuel Boilers!
Can’t wait for the next one mate👍
The next one is still this visit. I was broken by the end...
Still a great boiler by todays standards.
paul l bennett Then the French Combis came along!!!!.........What was the one with the front grille the Celtic??
Great Video Ollie!👍Can't wait for part 3. Got an Old Gledhill Pulsa Coil Eco cylinder no hot water on demand, that had me scratching my head late on Friday and I am going back to this week to get sorted 🤞
Thanks Felipe. Also thanks for becoming a Patreon. :-) I done a lot of work on Gledhill system mates 15 years ago. :-) Get the manual.
Brilliant video!! Well done Oli!!
Thanks :-)
Been waiting to watch this.. Great video mate and now looking forward to the next. Now i know i must be a geek aswell!!!
You must be :-) The next one won't take too long as it was part of this one..
Enjoyed that and felt your pain.👍😀
Great series of films, well done. I guess as the diverter's letting by it overheated the pre-heat when the heating was on?
You sir are very very close. :-)
We’ve all been there mate, I actually felt your pain when it didn’t work
I felt it while editing it too. :-)
Great video mate 👍
Thanks 👍 I didn't like making it or editing it. :-)
First combi I ever installed, was like hanging a fridge freezer on the wall. Done loads of work on them and were really reliable. One of the interesting things with this boiler was u could open vent it which we all did as we didn't want to pressurise an old system. Access was great once all the panels off and, the enamelling on the panels was fantastic, u just couldn't damage them. And manual permanent pilot 😂
I learned so much about this boiler on this job. Pure frustration at the time but glad I done it. :-)
Loved the video
Thanks :-)
i fix these 5 times a week in Croatia..:) Nice video m8!
Cool, thanks!
The good news is your now know more about these boilers than most, the bad news is you will probably never work on another one. These boilers were so complicated but thankfully not very popular ,not where I was anyway . It's great how you show your success but also explain where you could and would have done things differently. I am retired now but had a lifetime working with gas appliances and learned new stuff all the time ,you will be learning till the day you retire as well and how many jobs can you say that about?
We will be learning about electric boilers I think :-(
I’m a switch presser when it’s not fixed ...and I chuck in a power down as well 😂😂 well done olly
I don't often resort to doing that.. But when times get that stressful.... I didn't even remember doing it until I started editing the video.
Fair play. Remember the 1st time on one of these years ago & knocked the pilot off to service. When it re lit the boiler wouldn't fire. Was tearing my hair out to see what I had disturbed when after a phone call to another engineer he said knock & relit pilot several times before attempting relit. Worked every time since but never forgot it. 👍
This job can be a little stressful sometimes. :-)
Is it safety thermister stuck on over heating fault? Diverter stuck in between? Sludge mains heat exchanger? ??
I'm only a DIYer on my own boiler, but Plate Heat Exchanger blocked? Boiler overheats and dumps into the Rads.
Yes probably. :-)
Just ripped the handle off my telegan bag what are you using to carry yours bud. Liked subbed.
I am using a overland gear bag. American company and very overpriced. :-) I think there are a lot of good bags out there now. :-) (but not this one)
That sinking feeling when the boiler doesnt fire yet you suddenly feel 10 degrees hotter yourself
Could it have overheated because the microswitch stuck on after the hot tap was closed
Roll on part 3
Hopfully I can explain it in part 3 :-)
yeh, theres always another problem. The question from the custard....Whats wrong with it? Have you found the problem?.......Jeez's ive only just took the case off!! Make me a cuppa please and let me work
know exactly how you feel, good video
Thanks! I got the feeling when editing it too. :-)
very good. well done. keep dooing
Thank you, I will. :-)
I’m almost too excited to watch 🙈
Oh dear... Unfortunately, you are probably left disappointed as its not fixed yet...
HeatingGeek Nope. I realised that as you warned us quite early doors 😊
What a video alot of ppl would of just skipped it, how did u gain your knowledge
By doing the jobs others wouldn't and not giving up. I don't fob people off and generally get to the bottom of most things. Reading the manual also helps. :-)
Went on my own 3 years ago but I worked for a company just working on boilers for 8 years we had 2 customers with these that I had to service every year that I crossed my fingers and toes on that they would light again after a service🤞🙏😂 fair play mate for going down the road of a repair on this one👏👏👍
It a great boiler. When it works :-)
Has it overheated as the preheat was on, and the boiler wasn’t being told it was satisfied from the NTC/Bi-Metallic/Vapour Phial?
You are very close. :-) The preheat was left on by me on the last visit.
Great video as always! Loved the clicking of the switches at the end 😂😂😂😂
That's how my brain felt too. :-)
Fair play mate
Thanks
Hi mate what is the tool pouch your using there bud not the carhart tool roll cheers bud. Ps your videos are awesome dude very informative 👍
Which one? Where do you see it?
HeatingGeek not the carhart role the other one in the van bud they was together 👍
It’s the one in the intro of the video when you open the rear van doors and grab the two bags pal
When you link an electrical part out, is it literally getting a link and putting it in the L and N?
No, never the Live and Neutral. That would go bang. A switch is 2 lives as such. So your linking L to L.
HeatingGeek ahh ok mate. Need to learn about it!
Good video.... oh that feeling of NO! Ha, all been there fella. The plate heat exchanger restricted 👈
Tell me about it. Part 3 is on now. :-)
No it cant overheat if the switch sticks, it just heats the wax capsule and goes down the heating, sometimes u get the switch on the solenoid chatter, we called it the nachine gun, that can cause overheat. But the only thing that can cause this model to trip the overheat is blocked scaled main or a faulty overheat stat. Nothing will run not even the pump will run on that model if the pilot is out tho?
The pilot was lit. :-) The previous engineer had..... ;-)
HeatingGeek. 4 Observations, 1st: Endurance, 2nd: Perseverance, 3rd: Your skill set, 4th: Pride, A combination of all four so far solved one major issue, looking forward with great anticipation and confidence in you to the finale
Who said the next one was the Finale... :-(
Ahhhhhh, more to come
Where you gone dude? Hope you are ok
Thanks for asking. I am just having a rough time with my businesses at the moment.
Tapey tapey just tap it in lol . Great Vid but id nearly forgot about this it had been so long lol
Keep up the good work . Bet you loved getting coughed right near you
I have the next one coming soon. :-) Much sooner than this one. :-)
Holy shit Ollie mate, suns out guns out
I did warn you. :-) My chubby arms are a embarrassment :-))
Anyway good video lot of decent work here, well done but stuff the boiler, what BMW is it, nice colour.
BMW 528. It's not working and I'm slowly working my way through it. Like this boiler. :-)
HeatingGeek Best of luck with it, they really are nice looking vehicles, decent engine as well.
Ahhh the clicking of switches hoping something happens, we've all been there mate lol, though I've never yet resorted to trying to read German ... Yet lol
:-) German... My brain was completely fried :-)
That panic feeling when you turn it on and nothing happens 😂😂 nothing worse. Overheated possibly due to old microswitch telling the boiler to come on, possible blockage somewhere?
That panic.. :-( So stressful
how old is the boiler and how long is taking you to finish the job
3 Visits over 2 weeks.
i have waited donkies years for no2 vid all good so far o/h stat by the pump and also this boiler has venting issues for overheating the pump looks like been replaced with adaptors kit the micros i think one is pump operation and other is ignition and gas valve opens via diiff switch which also has a stuffing box on it
Yes kind of. :-) We get to the diff switch soon ;-)
Is there a diaphram that is partially degraded and not working properly . Could feel that sinking feeling in my stomach by the way lol.
I got it while editing it. All over again :-( Hate that feeling.
I almost got beaten today by a fault on an ideal isar & it got me thinking what’s your least favourite boiler to work on?
promax or intergas
Oooh yeah good one, had a promax earlier in the year that got me head scratching haven’t yet had the pleasure of any intergas boilers though
@@HeatingGeek why don't you like working on Intergas? I love 'em 🤔
Note to self cracked me up 😂
I think we all do it from time to time :-) It has never fixed a boiler though.
Low pressure, air in boiler stat pops?
Could of been. Next video will show a bit more. :-)
What's the model number on the boiler?
Sine 18 T3 BF
Over heated coz of pump issue?
Nope
Warm water and heating passing normally means diverter valve letting by. Over heat could be caused by poor pump performance or air locks but I would have thought you'd would have checked that. Possible overheat stat problem? Maybe the two issues are linked tho?😃🙉....also why do these spares suppliers give it the old bs ! What's that about lol
Also I had another thought that boiler is 40 years old, if that old guy had lived there all his life that boiler has been with him half his life lol.thats crazy! Also if he hasn't spent much money on it in the last 40 in years fair play for him wanting to keep it going
You have the same thought process as me. The next video makes it clearer what happened with the overheat. :-)
Few things here, 1) is the only disaster in this video is the vest 2) the main lesson to be learnt here is no man no matter how old should wear a vest 3) download the Anton app it has every manufacturer and all their boiler Manuals as pdfs, game changer for me 👌love your videos but again, please no vest 🤣
Thats it!!! Only vests from now on :-) and tight shorts.
Nice Beemma :)
It was. Now its an orniment that my wife constantly mentions..... Not in a good way. :-(
@@HeatingGeek cannot wait for part 3! Had similar one during lockdown but 1989 thermocompact with defective flow switch but office sell new blr instead as parts obsolete :/
Then the realisation sets in there’s so much I could’ve checked
Exactly
Didn’t you say B number 9 then checked B number 8 ? 😊✌️
Maybe. :-)
Faulty wax stat?
The wax capsule was faulty. I think it contributed but wasn't the reason. :-)
Ollie you disappointed me, I was waiting for the thump on the casing to see if that fixed it after all that switch pressing😁
Next time! A technical tap does fix a lot of things, ;-)
Percussive Maintenance. :-D I've had times fixing PC's where that can work. Fans with noisy sleeve bearings that drone on startup respond well to a bit of percussive maintenance, till I get a new fan to replace it.
That Custard doesnt leave your side, always hanging about! Jeez's , give a man some space ...ha aha ha ahahahahaha
He an ex HVAC engineer so he was interested. I don't mind people watching :-)
@@HeatingGeek he's reading this ? aint he? sorry custard!! he heheheheheehh
Still haven’t a clue , I can do a straight boiler swap in under 3 hours though. My teddy would have been in shreds by now. More important, how much did you make from this job?
Been there it's like being the iceberg lookout on the titanic like you said and very true we all jump in !
Thats not the important bit..... It cant be on a job like this...
Heating Greek, ollie, was the pressure low so air gets in and overheat stat pops?
Just Qualified as a gas engineer, i have never heard of a stuffing box, why is it called that.
Because it what they call them on boats. On a boat, the prop shaft passes through a stuffing box into the water. In that application, it was literally a box stuffed with grease and rope to keep the water back. :-)
Clearly let-by on the diverter , something must be sticking on intermittently to put the overheat out, possibly the gas valve or one of the microswitches ??
To be fair I haven't seen one of these in a long, long time.................
everything wrong with this boiler. :-)
Don't go breakin my heart 🙂
It did :-(
@@HeatingGeek I know and understand the feelings. Brilliant work. Thank you for all the detail and information you share. 👍🏻
See you later,part 3.
Soon. :-)
Frost stat 🤔
No/yes :-) Im not telling.
I like the part where the customer starts to cough Innocently
I know. Corona :-) He's fine and this was a long time ago. Right at the start of all this. :-)
diverted valve stuck chantal heating position
A bit of that. :-)
You want to pass the phone number of where you got the spare parts from to British Gas.. They usually tell customers that this boiler to old to get parts for any more you need a new boiler regardless of age of boiler
Thats their system. Any part obsolete then new appliance needed. A lot of the parts are still at plumbcenter but BG only work with what's still manufactured or not. :-)
@@HeatingGeek i dont like thier tactics. An elderly neighbour of mine had BG cover and was told his boiler needed changing because the combustion insulation pannels were gone, (which they were) and they couldn't get replacement ones for his baxi 80e. I told him i can get them and get his boiler up and running again but BG came in with some heavy sales tactics and he had a new boiler through them at an astronomical price
@@GD-qu9hr And they didn't do the TRVs or a flush :-)
Bypass blocked
Does it even have one??? :-)
I wouldn't have a chance
I felt like that too. On this visit.
