Tantos...harder to sharpen? I always thought they were easier myself--sure, there's two extra bevels, but all of them are perfectly straight. You just have to make sure to hold a consistent angle, which you always have to do to sharpen properly anyway; and take it slow, easy, and most of all equal on both sides of the tip so as not to over-sharpen one side and make the thing crooked. But hey, what do I know? I enjoy sharpening knives, which is apparently an aberration.
Tanto PM2 might actually be easier to sharpen. At least for me it is. Atoma diamond plates

Tanto's are simply short Japanese swords of around 1 Shaku (11.9") or less. It's not the name for a blade, nor is there a blade specific to a Tanto. Although there are some traditional designs, like straight back, trailing point and chisel, the Tanto is not tied to those blade shapes. Sorry to be 'that guy'. I am impressed however at the bravery of providing an alternative story, when a single page on Wiki will give you everything you need to know.
Why do people think it's called "taanto" rather than "tonto"? Just because it has an A doesn't mean it's pronounced with an aaaaa sound.
