For clarification: there are two types of tanto and Bowie.
Traditional tanto: has only one point. Made for stabbing and slicing
American tanto: has a second point that can be very effective for snap cuts and chores as you've mentioned.
Broad Bowie: slicing and cutting with the false edge.
Awl like Bowie: thrusting into unarmoured targets
Note that the second type of Bowie and to a similar degree the double edged blade such as the Fairbarn Sykes daggger can be inserted into meat with just two fingers pinching the grip.
The tanto requires a lot more force, but if you hit chain mail or a thin sheet of metal, once it punches through it goes all the way whereas the traditional daggers stop fast as they keep tapering.
