Svaneborg Kardyb: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert

- The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit - stripped-down sets, an intimate setting - just a different space.
Kara Frame | May 25, 2022
Svaneborg Kardyb’s Tiny Desk (home) concert was recorded in the countryside of Djursland, Denmark. “You have to drive for a while on a gravel road, and then you come to a lovely old house surrounded by hills and a stream on one side and a very flat landscape on the other, where you can see 10 miles away,” the band wrote to us, describing the location of the shoot. It’s this place that inspired Svaneborg Kardyb’s second album, Haven. “‘Haven’” (means garden in Danish). Haven celebrates places we like to be,” the duo writes.
The Danish jazz duo is composed of Nikolaj Svaneborg - on the Wurlitzer, synthesizer and piano, and Jonas Kardyb - on drums and percussion. Their instrumentation set-up is untraditional, with the drums and keys facing each other, a position that they play in on stage just as they do in Jonas’ kitchen and living room here. They open up their set with the title track from Haven, which begins with a quiet melody over an effervescent loop. The sound mimics the shimmy of leaves in the breeze.
This concert is the soundtrack for lying beneath a tree canopy and watching the sun illuminate each leaf, seeing the veins clearly as the sun makes its way down to reach each branch. Immersing yourself in nature is grounding, which is reflected in Jonas’ last line describing their (home) concert: “The countryside reminds you that it is lovely to place both feet in the grass.”

Underrated comment
Lol omg me too ✋️
Bruuu word
Well done
feel the same and love this comment so much 🤣👏🏻
Gentlemen, I am neither lying nor exaggerating when I say that this performance/video has become a staple in my day-to-day life. It so perfectly resembles the exact embodiment of the “vibe” I wish to carry in this life.
No joke, probably…200+ views 😍
Can’t wait for a live performance of the rest of the Over Tage album!!
Bravo.

Hey David.
Just wanna let you now this is being released on vinyl in late January. It's probably already out on streaming by now.
Yes! This became my favorite music when I first played it and I still play it all the time!❤
This music gives me hope for the future... and it's beautiful.
This just blew my absolute mind. Sometimes things don’t need to be complicated to be absolutely delicious. Dang. This has made a fan of me for sure.
Awesome atmospheric music. The ESbjorn Svennson trio is strong in these ones.
First time listening to these guys. I don't even have the words to explain the track Haven for how it feels, because it hits an emotional and mental spot I never knew.
This is beautiful. I love discovering new artists through Tiny Desk.
isn't it wonderful? open windows and doors onto the world. Homely.
It was one of my best decision to subscribe to the NPR Tiny Desk Cocert. Thank You guys.
Its like floating? Just floating thru existence ❤
simply & beauty, drum & piano 💭
The Sound of New Nordic Jazz I love The Sound 🤗
One of the best performances ever! He makes each drum and percussion piece sing
The music "Haven" needs to be often presented to people with depression... It´s so, so beautifull that let me think in GOD touching the sky
As a keyboardist, I lost myself in this. The drums complement the Wurlitzer with such deliberation; the soft tones of the melody echo the percussion in a hypnotically tantalizing manner. This was artfully executed
I couldn't have said it better myself!

Find out about Nils Frahm if you havn't already
Beautiful description of pure musical talent . and I have to add the lovely sound stage delivered by Simon and the meandering camera movement, lens selection and colour choice by Kristoffer made this a perfect tiny desk.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
“Complement”
Unapologetically warm and sweet, keeping the subtle complexity only for the attentive.
I like the home concerts best because artists create setting they feel reflects their music.
YES, most these are much improved sound over the tiny desks shotgun mic.
Tiny Desk, thank you thank you thank you for being part of my music renaissance. At 48 years as a human, I sometimes worry I won’t find any new music to love, but y’all bust that myth every day you post new music! Much love to y’all!
I'm 61 and still finding new music to like/love. Stuff like this. Beautiful. Btw, I don't subscribe to Tiny Desk, I came here via Gondwana, their record label. A lot of very cool stuff on that label...
Hello
Great music, finally. Try Sneaky little devil ;-)
@@vanojoh3733 Gondwana is superbly curated. A helpful recommendation. Their artistes overlap this sort of music.

Im 44 and have the same experience! I have Tiny Desk to thank for this, IDLES, Anderson Paak...etc! They are just awesome
Please do this for 8 hours so I can play this all day in the background while I work.
exactly!
@klaus N. good tip!
Felt like I was lucid dreaming for 19 minutes. Also. Intro at nearly the 10-minute mark? Just EPIC!
Just a month before this gig we were in Denmark for the 1st time as a family. Absolutely stunning country! Relatively few cars on the highways, flat lands, sea & water everywhere, friendly people, calm atmosphere. We as Germans were thinking about immigration... This great music mirrors my experiences, thanks a lot!
Wow... This crawled into my soul and just took a nap! That's a good thing! It just unwinds me.
If there ever was music that felt like you wanted to move in into it... this is it.
Have never watched a Tiny Desk as many times as this. The first minute alone brings me so much comfort, like a hug from someone wearing the finest of cashmere sweaters.
Feel like I'm in orbit....thankyou...And extra thanks for using an actual drum kit.
This recording is like 4x months old but already in my ~top 10recordings of all time. I had no idea how much I needed this. On repeat every other day, and I can't see it ever beginning to get old. Thank you.
The drum tones this guy has is unreal!
Properly tuned drums for the music and he plays with both feeling and discipline. Rare.
That 12x26 bass drum is the cats meow!
Love this kind of pattern based drumming. Kardy b killin it
This is what having fun while making music looks like.
What a wonderful music and performance.
It's friday morning, cloudy with a chance of rain, preparing breakfast right now and then working from home today, music fits the vibe, wonderful feeling
Beautiful. Every day more convinced that music is a universal language. Greetings from Rosario, Argentina 🙌🏽❤
Orbit is spellbinding. Musical perfection

Magic on the keys and a drummer getting weird? I'm in love!!
omg...their struggle to get back down to earth and spoken words when they finish a section at 9min and so... Beyond beautiful
I’m glad they spent a long time drinking coffee and composing in that beautiful room, as we get the joy of listening to them. This is my summer soundtrack this year. I already have it on repeat.
The Universe and my high self just collided with Svaneborg Kardyb. The eargasms of gorgeousness were next level, ya’ll. Bravo fellas!! I haven’t been this excited about a new band/sound in forever. Thanks for sprinkling my night with soul glitter. Peace and Love
Couldn’t agree more and as a friendly suggestion, if you haven’t heard Nils Frahms album All Melody you might be lucky and discover an incredible experience
Hey! Hey! Have you been dabbling with the jazz cabbage by any chance? Nice aerated comments. Carry on!
can't wait to compliment this with the surreal landscape of Smida in the heart of Transylvania.
If there is a point of absolute rest, the singular concept of the one true idea, the universal one, these compositions and executions of them, are magnificent peek holes for such phenomena
That was just glorious. Nikolaj and Jonas make such a wonderful mellow sound - the very reason NPR is my go-to source for musical gems. Thank you.
Found by accident, but stayed by choice. I've got a lot of time for this. Loved it
The day that I die.... I wanna go with this musik.... Fantastik!
Sounds like water. Beautiful
One of the best tiny desk concerts.
The drummers head is a mesmerizing metronome that hypnotizes you into finding the abyss and then back again.s
MY BABY HAS SLEPT WITH THIS MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then your baby is truly blessed.
Beautiful, joyous sound to brighten my day. If I close my eyes I see a Danish Mickey Hart with absolute unique chops. Gracias!🎵🎵🎶🎵⛵️🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🙏🏼
Beautiful...🎹...🎵...🎶...organic...raw💖
Loved it!!!☺️ Wow, it brought sooo much peace, love and tranquility into my heart💗🌼 Just what I needed💗 Thank you soo much NPR for hosting and having Svaneborg Kardyb!!☺️☺️💞👍🌼🌻🌷💖~
The Rhodes and BlueSky is a great combination taking us all to heaven. I have been experimenting over the last years with gentle music and percussion and found how difficult adding percussion is to ambient and gentle music. The live drummer is a so much better than a sequencer, and has added that delicate drumming necessary to make this combo work. Well done on the mix.
It's a wurlitzer dude but I know what you mean!
Yeah but have you ever tried a Source Audio Ventris or an EHX Oceans 12? Imo BlueSky and BigSky are both outclassed by a lot of newer reverbs, including cheaper ones like the Oceans 12
@@Merlincat007 I am currently working with a ZoomMS70CDR pedal; it has potential if you program the series of modules yourself. The presets are horrible for synth/keyboard. Can't afford any of those $500 pedals. I would like to try the new NIghtSky, almost a synth within an effect, but the cost means not buying the synth I want this year.
I'm simply inspired.. thank you
Not every day I discover a new Artist group and know I'm a fan for life. So soothing. So trance like yet a peaceful ride. So organic and warm. Well done boys well done!
You might also like another danish band called Bremer/Mccoy.
Same feels
Very true about them. And how nicely described 👌
30 seconds in and I say: this is FANTASTIC! Very John Klemmer-like. Love it!
+1 fueron unos segundos y realmente me lamente no haberlos conocido antes....gracias dua lipa y su tiny desk que me los presento. saludos desde chile!
I was deeply moved by the wonderful music.
this drum kit is a thing of beauty I've never seen before
It's a big bass drum!
@@girlinagale it seems a 24 inch or even bigger. Tuning is perfect.
underbart! you guys are true magicians, thank you for the good vibrations
Just discovered these guys today. 2 piece ensemble who know how and are ready to explore their full potential. Best of luck!
Majestic! Thank you for the beauty.
I simply love NPR Music, always finds true gems which I didn't know before. This is heavenly beautiful. Thank you!
You two are incredibly talented. Thanks for this - what a beautiful set!
Orbit...wow. Ethereal and haunting...a masterpiece.
Wonderful music 🎶
Keyboard and drum 🥁 playing are amazing. What a beautiful gift you have given us!!!!
Молодцы! Сочитание электронногои живого звука. Прекрасный дуэт.
It's so beautiful. Among the music I listened to over the age of 30. I just listened to the music, but this video was the first time I saw them playing, and I was very impressed.
It is the most original thing I heard in a while
Drummers ideas are fantastic!
Will be coming back to this video a lot)
One of the most beautiful music I have ever heard...
That was wonderfully refreshing. Especially as a drummer, I respect his restraint to hone in on a textural style of playing to complement the piano and synth.
Beautiful music, beautiful living room!
How beautiful you guys are and your music and your living room everything is really joyful and awesome with harmonized!
Absolutely sublime.
The song "Orbit" is world class music
Tiny desk is my music-nerd friend who make me discover a lot of amazing music like this! Thank you Tiny! ❤
Bredebro gone viral!!!
Det er så mega sejt at i er på NPR Tiny Desk, tillykke og tak for koncerten.
Jonas, hils Lena og Martin fra Kedde.
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
This was truly awesome. Would love to se a concert with Bremer/McCoy next…..
This and Yebba are my favourite NPR tiny desks.
Simply amazing. Congrats
this music gives me some inner peace while going through anxiety🥺❤
sorry to hear that! if you need more nordic peace check out Hvalfugl and Bremer/McCoy. Best wishes
For sure you will go through anxiety, just trust in yourself and take therapy... I have had anxiety for 13 years and finally i see the light at the end of the tunnel... There's hope my friend.
Try listening to Hammock
That 3rd song and the moment of being captured for our eyes is just magical.
Thank you!! beautiful!!!
I always leave the music to give the rhythm to what I'm doing. And she, the music, is never wrong. Thank you guys 💕
this is my kind of music right here
I dive in, bubbles rise. Hovering, endless gliding. Timeless. Mind dissolves and unites with soul for a moment. Actually not possible. And yet...
Oh, this is so exquisite. Thanks!
Cinematic sound
Wow. Beautiful. That drummer is never going to get arthritis in his neck 😅 but wow - I’ve never seen drumming like that. It’s a really new perspective on percussion for me. So gentle. So creative. I’ve wanted to play drums for years and I’m glad I saw this before I started. Piano is just a beautiful wave to ride in and out of body, mind, heart and soul.
I found this last weekend and it has since become a staple in my workday. I throw this on and just zone in on coding and its so relaxing. Thanks Svaneborg Kardyb and thanks NPR.
Wonderful and delicious (ostinato-)compositions with such a fine taste of polyrhythmic and polyphonic structures!!! Thank you both for your sound-art-works ...!!! Sincere, love & peace on earth ...!!!
Awesome! Tiny Desk Concerts has introduced me to so much beauty.
The song haven made me cry. Just recently lost my mother. These sounds touched on my pain.
Bellezaaaaa!!!!!gracias gracias gracias
Whoa Kardy B has really changed.
The music is actually well done.
