    Vocal Coach Reaction To Greta Van Fleet - Highway Tune - Ken Tamplin
    It's awesome to see fresh young organic rock music come out these days instead of highly processed computer / Melodyne (auto-tune) driven plastic music.
    Greta Van Fleet is certainly is one of those bands!
    3 brothers from the Michigan city of Frankenmuth (little Bavaria), were determined to put rock back on the map!
    With their heavily Led Zeppelin influenced sound, and just winning a Grammy, they have certainly done just that.
    While out of the 10 Led Zeppelin albums released (Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin IV, Houses Of The Holy, Physical Graffiti, Presence, The Song Remains The Same [live], In Through The Out Door and Coda), Led Zeppelin never managed to snag a Grammy. (I guess it's tough to win the favor of the Grammys :-)
    Greta Van Fleet, only releasing one full length album (Anthem of the Peaceful Army) managed to do what eluded Led Zeppelin.
    So I thought it would be a great time to react to this wonder band.

      The singer and the guitar player have the same gestures and movements as Zepp's Plant and Page...
      Other do this...Malmsteen and Geers are all Blackmore. But, they haven't been noticed at the time because of this. Nor did they sound like Purple or Rainbow. But Greta...you can tell what Zeppelin song they used, as I showed.

      I am 56 and I woke up for work this morning with the highway song buzzing in my head from the night before, funny how music can do that, I think the most notable trait of these young guys and their music is their ability to rekindle a long dwindled adrenal rush music used to give me. Consider I lived through the British invasion and listened to the development of the biggest bands ever to blaze trails into all our lives. What is cool is that Led Zeppelin rose to fame at a time when the world was ready for them and they were not hindered with familiarity and saturation of the genera they would eventually posses , in other words they were not hindered by some of the hurdles GVF has had to overcome , all this music has been done before and done to death for decades , the fact that these guys are catching on so quickly despite that, is testament to just how talented they are , the cohesiveness of their sound the lyrics melodies tempo timing beat inflections and blazing stunningly unique vocals by Josh are what make GVF able to bulldoze through a jaded audience deadened by decades of musical mediocrity and ignite the excitement in people garnishing reactions such as the ones on this blog, to simply say as some have that GVF is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and that is their appeal is crushingly marginalizing , my God listen to the acoustic version of Black Smoke Rising, Edge of Darkness these are genuinely masterful songwriters singers and musicians. These guys are on fire and I can’t wait to hear what comes next. I still remember how it felt when I got my first Zeppelin, Stones , Floyd LP and so many other monster talents, the only reason I can remember , and I am being completely sincere in saying this , is that after listening to this entire track , for the first time in decades I felt it again I want to have all my friends over and crank this cool new album buy this new band Greta Van Fleet in its unstoppable infancy and we will all play air guitar and get buzzed laugh and not give a fuck about anything because the music is doing the talking and pulled us all out of our heads to let us live in the moment, that's some serious spiritual currency . When new bands come trying new ideas, people complain that "real rock'n'roll is dead", "last great rock album was Dark Side of The Moon", "only old school bands were good", and things like that; when a new band comes up playing EXACTLY like old school bands, people accuse them of having "no personality". Conclusion: people will always complain anyway. Great video, Ken!

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  5 лет назад +2

      Luiz Cláudio Ribeirinho Perhaps a little cynical but that doesn't make it true!

    • @tekcomputers
      @tekcomputers 5 лет назад +3

      The people who complain rock is dead, and then complain about bands reviving classic rock and calling them copycats do so because they WANT rock to be dead. As classic rock waned in popularity their attachment of identity to the genre has provided a self-sense of specials or uniqueness. As such a new influx or revival of the genre into the mainstream is a bad thing, as it takes away their self-sense to feel special. Unfortunately they have no actual LOVE for the genre. Only in how they can personally use it for their own means of self-identity. If the genre slowly died out till on tehy were left and then like died with them they would not care. Because they have no actual love for the genre or desire for it to grow and survive. They have attached their identity to it as it waned and shrunk.
      In short, there is nothing really positive in their mentality for the genre. It is clear the Ken Tamplin however genuinely LOVES the genre. As do those excited and happy to see it revive.

    A young band comes out of nowhere and gets mistaken for Led Zeppelin. And all is well in the world once more. GVF were raised on vinyl and miraculously channel the Golden Age of rock and roll. If you think it is easy just try and cover any Led Zeppelin song with a modicum of quality and accuracy. Check out The Main Squeeze covering Since I've Been Loving You. GVF's staying power will hinge on the quality of their songs. Zeppelin had a conveyor belt of incredible songs and albums. The icing on the cake is that they are three brothers and their close friend the drummer..

      I don't know if stole is correct when nearly every song or band has something from another.
      They used to say imitation is the highest form of appreciation.
      It's a catch 22 for most but when musicians are as famous, talented, popular and as wealthy as Zep...the blues artists should have gotten some compensation...which they did.
      Actually I don't think I would have appreciated the blues without Zep!!
      I'm wondering how Zep sales are doing now with all the hype from GVF...hmm.

Of course they are young so they have the time, I'm just not sold. And yet I still love highway tune only because I love Robert Plant. Talented or not, do your own thing or be a cover band, it's just my opinion. Not trying to be all negative lol

Peace Everybody,,,,,, Darren.

    Happy to see a positive review!! These boys are so talented but don't get enough recognition. People are so focused on comparisons, they're really missing out. People just need to appreciate the music and how they're bringing rock back. If you haven't see them live, you need to! One of the few bands, that sounds even better live. Best concert I've been to in years! I prefer their live versions myself. Lover, Leaver, Taker, Believer and Edge of Darkness are my favorite! Danny kills his drum solos, he is so talented! He also plays guitar! Jake always sounds great, I love his playing style. He is talented and even plays behind his back! So fun to watch!! Josh has pipes most people dream of. His vocals shine on stage! Sammy is multi-talented as well, playing the keys too. Their new album definitely has orginal material, with their own style. I can't wait to see them grow, they will only get better with time. 🤘🤘🤘
