Huh, might be interesting to hear what you have to say about the 2010's blues revival with bands like Dorothy and The Black Keys, just because they are also in that super gritty Lofi aesthetic.
I wouldn’t categorize Black Keys as 2010’s. The stuff that came out that decade was way less bluesy than their earlier stuff. But yeah, it’d be a cool topic for reaction.
Great reaction video, what a lot of people don't understand or maybe realize is that these guys were 14 and 16 when they wrote and recorded this, and now they said it has evolved into a whole new Beast that maybe you can check out live next👍👍
This was their first track released to the mainstream. The rest of their catalog is much more in depth. You really should listen to more songs off this EP, and their latest album shows there growth in so many ways. Check out live versions of their music. A great one to check out is their concert at Red Rocks, there are 4 videos that capture this entire concert. And anything off the new album is great.
Agree with everything you said! I can't imagine why anyone would be upset about them sounding similar to Led Zeppelin, thank God someone does! It's sure an improvement over the garbage available today. All artists are influenced by someone, these young men don't live in a vacuum.
They were teens when they wrote this and very young when they recorded it! It doesn't even have a chorus, lolol. Now, with their newest album, they sound just like GVF! 🥳 Hope you take a listen to it! AWESOME growth. Loved your review, TY! 🥰
I know it has been some time since this video, but I'd love to see more Greta Van Fleet reactions! Such a wonderful and refreshing analysis, thank you!
Guitarist, Bassist, and Singer are brothers. Also wanted to say I enjoyed the Recording Engineer convo. I'm learning. Keep those little tidbits coming. I'm picking em up. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.... for free.
Great take on the track Geebz. I'm never offended when a really young band wears their influences a bit too heavy on their sleeve for the first album, as long as I like the influences. Here's hoping their evolution bring good things.
There's a million stoner rock/metal bands that borrow heavily from Sabbath, I've never been annoyed at a single one of them for it. These guys are really annoying.
I don't have any issues with sorta neo-retro rock music. If you liked those old bands, why not enjoy some more music that sounds like that! Here's a few suggestions in that vein: Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother I Got Mine by The Black Keys Ritual by Ghost
After hearing Steven Wilson's take on Greta Van Fleet, I'm keen to hear how the Decomposer compares! PS would still love to hear your thoughts on Anathema! Aloha!
I'm a huge SW fan but I disagree with him. I think he is being a wee bit old man about it....as he admits in the interviews in question...the fact they upset him I think is an indication they are doing something right...as all new generations should be....also I just love GVF albums. They write excellent songs and are genuinely just doing what they want....with the caveat that they are maybe a tad overproduced on their albums....but again that's maybe the old man in me being a tiny bit cynical...but I refuse to become that old man. If the music hits the spot with, I don't care what others think.....
For the love of all that is holy, you really need to check out Age of Man or the live at red rocks version of it. Their newer stuff is so good and I guarantee you'll love it! Love your channel!
Excellent review! Your ears' hearing/processing and then reactions are really helpful to break down the song! I can hear tonal differences between the two singers now! So crazy!!
This song does indeed feel like a Zeppelin cover, but damn, that is one killer groove. I was shocked at first at how similar it sounded, but I'm sure there are plenty of bands that I listen to that sound very similar to others. All that matters to me is great songwriting.
I liked these kids.. They got a lot of flack for being "zep" ripoffs, but just about every band takes from other bands that came before them. But, these kids.. it's refreshing to hear kids actually play real rock n roll w/ real instruments. Can't complain about that, not matter how they sound...
I’ve said the same thing many times. I like them, but they’re not my favorite. And I’ll always respect and listen to good ‘ol rock and roll. And this sounds like it came straight out of 1975.
There's a line between being influenced by or paying homage too VS being derivative. Greta gets too much shit though. Or... More over, others don't get enough. Most blues, psych, stoner rock of the past decade is rips either sabbath, or pink Floyd, or zepp, or deep purple or a combination thereof. They never grow beyond their influences. They never take the influences and do something new and innovative. Nirvana was influenced by the Beatles. Nine Inch Nails by Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Rush and Frankie Bones. Pink Floyd themselves were influenced by a ton of blues artists. You'd never accuse these bands of being derivative of their influences. They took influences and did something new. But how many sabbath-worship doom bands litter Bandcamp and top the Doom Charts blog every month? Greta, Royal Sons, Lucifer, Blues Pills, Black Keys, Mondo Drag, Blood Ceremony, Rosalie Cunningham, Ghost, just..so many of these bands are busy regurgitating the latter part of the 20th century. Listen to Dirty Honey. Not a single vocal or a single guitar lick that couldn't come from Zepp or Aerosmith. When all rock can do is regurgitate its past, is it any wonder the only rock bands that chart are 20+ years old or barely resemble rock at all, like say.. Imagine Dragons?
I always think of Tool as this generational Zeppelin, not because of how they sound, but because of the work put in and the influential inertia of What they are. And you could in turn say based on that criteria that Zep is its generation's Beetles. This is the best of the 3 songs I've heard by Greta, the first 2 didn't grip me but this one did, so maybe they are up and comers and ready to spark a movement like a Nirvana or a Korn, a wave of something new that borrows from the past. Time will tell. Cool reaction, all right! :)
The Dear Hunter- A Night on the Town This song is great to introduce people to what they sound like and how theatrical they are, the lead singer composes everything and constructed an orchestra for the album. The Dear Hunter- Mustard Gas Mustard Gas is one of their harder tunes, and it tells a snippet of the story that is in their albums, from Act I through Act V. (Act VI has yet to be released) in this song the main character is fighting in world war one. Explanation of the events of the song:The Thief tells him in order to get to his camp, he must cross another battlefield. With a brief farewell, The Boy makes a run through the field in the middle of a battle. Dodging bullets and artillery, the Boy eventually gets hit with mustard Gas. The Boy falls in a ditch as he catches a glimpse of the enemy wearing gas masks standing over a hill, victory in their grasps. The Boy faints but he made it to the other side.
I can promise that no one here would be disappointed with the composition of any of their work. It's such a great story and the music depicts it so well.
An honest non swayed opinion, love the way you mentioned Geddy Lee , as when I first listened to GVF I could hear Rush influence more than Zep. Keep these videos coming you’re my newest favourite on RUclips.
These Kids were like 18 and younger here. The guitarist and singer are identical twins...the bassist/keyboardist is their 2 years younger brother and all 3 look exactly alike! The drummer was their friend. Very talented brothers!
Every band can be compared to others, but I think these guys have a lot of talent, have their own take on a sound and in some ways are more interesting than led... also, refreshing to hear actual raw musicians without sounding "over produced"
I appreciate the differences between what others consider a "copycat", because like you, Geebz, I can hear so many differences! I am your age- maybe a little older (?) and grew up on Zeppelin when they were still a performing and recording group, not the legends they have become since then. I still prefer the raw, uncomplicated sound of older music before listening to often over-produced, perfected pieces that tend to be impossible to translate to any stage performance without going to extremes that ultimately remove from a live experience. I've found that younger listeners have been conditioned to an often unrealistic expectation of perfection- so much so that they have a hard time appreciating the actual talent and instead experience constant disappointment when musicians can't replicate their recordings to the letter. I'm glad these young guys are sticking to what they themselves grew up on- it should serve them well in what I hope to be a very long and glorious career as a band. They will only get better, and I look forward to it.

Great reaction video, what a lot of people don't understand or maybe realize is that these guys were 14 and 16 when they wrote and recorded this, and now they said it has evolved into a whole new Beast that maybe you can check out live next👍👍
To really blow your mind…..he has songs that he sounds like Geddy Lee😁
You should do one for "Flesh And The Power It Holds" by Death
You should check out the band GRAVEYARD and "Hisingen Blues" of them if you loved this one!
I saw them live and am sad to say they were so hammered they didn't sound very good lol. Still great studio cuts.
Really that whole album.
When I saw them maybe I got lucky they were in good form.
@@swingonthespiral Woops, I just checked out their live material and I loved it. Maybe they just had a bad day.
@@Opranius It was the end of the tour. They were probably celebrating. They had a lot of energy though.
I love GVF!! They are incredible!!
I love them... I could listen all day.
AKG 240 Studios are on the way thanks for turning me on to them. 😎
I bought the AKG 240s & they do sound awesome. 🎧🎶🎵
For a less derivative take on the Zep influence & how to take it forward, check out Rival Sons
Agree with everything you said! I can't imagine why anyone would be upset about them sounding similar to Led Zeppelin, thank God someone does! It's sure an improvement over the garbage available today. All artists are influenced by someone, these young men don't live in a vacuum.
I can't lie, when I heard this I thought it was a lost demo track by Led Zeppelin, mind blown when it was 4 kids from Michigan around 20 years old!
I love it. Makes me want to pull out some of the old stuff. I don’t think the similarities are a bad thing.
They were teens when they wrote this and very young when they recorded it! It doesn't even have a chorus, lolol. Now, with their newest album, they sound just like GVF! 🥳 Hope you take a listen to it! AWESOME growth. Loved your review, TY! 🥰
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Great job Brother!!
Awwwright!!🤙
I know it has been some time since this video, but I'd love to see more Greta Van Fleet reactions! Such a wonderful and refreshing analysis, thank you!
A revisit to the newer stuff would be a very interesting video ❤❤
Their new album is fantastic. I recommend it. They're going on their own way
Def gonna check it out, thanks!
@@haniffat enjoy! 😊
Gotta listen to literally anything off of their Battle at Gardens agate album . . . seriously
I'd love to see you decompose some early Tool, anything off of Opiate!
Yes! Hush or Cold and Ugly. Of course Opiate. 👍
This comment, this comment right here!
Great to listen with you… wow, great review… loving this…a lot
The Black Keys and Rival Sons have been doing this sound for a while now. They both have been embraced by Detroit radio.
I remember seeing an interview with the singer. He said their biggest inspiration was clearly Aerosmith. LOL.
😂😂😂
Guitarist, Bassist, and Singer are brothers. Also wanted to say I enjoyed the Recording Engineer convo. I'm learning. Keep those little tidbits coming. I'm picking em up. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.... for free.
Great take on the track Geebz. I'm never offended when a really young band wears their influences a bit too heavy on their sleeve for the first album, as long as I like the influences. Here's hoping their evolution bring good things.
This last album was fucking amazing and sounded NOTHING like Led Zeppelin
You can't stop yourself comparing them to Zeppelin. It's like listening to The Sword and not picking out major Black Sabbath vibes.
Why do we debate this … it’s the same shit
Upvote for The Sword
@@Earthad23 Who's debating anything???
There's a million stoner rock/metal bands that borrow heavily from Sabbath, I've never been annoyed at a single one of them for it. These guys are really annoying.
Check out Orchid
I don't have any issues with sorta neo-retro rock music. If you liked those old bands, why not enjoy some more music that sounds like that! Here's a few suggestions in that vein:
Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother
I Got Mine by The Black Keys
Ritual by Ghost
I hope you do more GVF. Live, they jam on and on like 70’s bands used to. They like the era, and are more diverse down the road.
Pacific theatre by Yourcodenameis:Milo / Apathy for a cold body by Poison the Well / The Complexity of light by Children of Nova
Up until a couple days ago I had never heard of them. Now I have concert tickets ❤❤❤
Love GVF
They are very young and brothers. It's refreshing to hear young people that love the classic rock sound.
Thank you for finally checking this out,
You HAVE to listen to there new album,
They have gotten even better, every song
Is fantastic ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very excited that you’re checking them out!
For the love of all that is holy, you really need to check out Age of Man or the live at red rocks version of it. Their newer stuff is so good and I guarantee you'll love it! Love your channel!
Chaz, thanks for the suggestion!
The Dear Hunter- A Night on the Town
This song is great to introduce people to what they sound like and how theatrical they are, the lead singer composes everything and constructed an orchestra for the album.
The Dear Hunter- Mustard Gas
Mustard Gas is one of their harder tunes, and it tells a snippet of the story that is in their albums, from Act I through Act V.
Great analysis and especially appreciate you pointing out the differences between GVF and Led.
These Kids were like 18 and younger here. The guitarist and singer are identical twins...the bassist/keyboardist is their 2 years younger brother and all 3 look exactly alike! The drummer was their friend. Very talented brothers!
Age of Man and Stardust Chords are my current favorites of theirs ❤ They're really coming into their own
I love the way you look at the camera on that first vocal note 😂 Allright!
I saw these guys in Denver a couple years ago! That dude can SING!!! 🎶🎶🎶
Good choice, dude! We saw GVF a few years back at a small venue and they killed it live! Freaking amazing!
I saw them in the summer of 2018, St. Louis show. Small venue, GVF blew the roof off the place!
Every band can be compared to others, but I think these guys have a lot of talent, have their own take on a sound and in some ways are more interesting than led... also, refreshing to hear actual raw musicians without sounding "over produced"
This band is great, they sold I think a million singles b4 the album even came out. All under 20yrs old at the time it came out.
Lol I think we both spiked the camera at the same time. It’s so hard not think of Zep hearing this.
