Thanks! It fixed the issue! I probably tweaked the rod when I was switching from the small to the large primer bar and didn't realize it. Looked at other things before I remembered to check RUclips and sure enough your video was there to help me. Thanks again. NS.

So glad I searched & searched videos until I found yours! Exactly the same problem you were having, I've been experiencing & trying to fix, Well, knowing the sweet spot to bend the rod makes it work perfectly (every stroke). Thanks for taking time to inform the rest of us! :)

I have been fighting this issue for months. I too thought the fix was in the lower bend. I too was wrong. First thing in the morning, I'm heading to the reloading room and work on the upper bend. Thank you for the video.

Thank you for the tip. It worked like a charm. I too had tried a couple of the other options and was just dealing with it until I finally googled it and came across your video after bending the lower part of the rod and causing the tray to not go far enough the other way. My other co-hosts had not had this problem with theirs, so they couldn't help. Mike from the Reloading Podcast.

yeah right. I mailed the broken plate to dillon Monday. today Thursday they email me saying the warranty piece was mailed today.
I'm here to tell you YOU are going to love this product .

I had my press about 2yrs and added several conversion kits. Everything been flawless at the beginning till after changing out the primer pocket several times. I tried several things and seems to help but really didn't. Finally after the frustration I got my caliper and measured my clearance inside the housing where the bar slide back and forth. I discovered the bulge where the 2 screws goes to tighten on the base. I took a small file and shaved the aluminum down a little, didn't do it till it was flat but measured the clearance till I felt it should work and has worked perfect since then.
Want to say after fixing this I found out the two screws should be finger tight not hand tighten in the owners manual. It works like a dream and hasn't been acting up since then. This appears to be a critical situation if you're not carful. I love my Dillon press.

    : : PRIMER PROBLEMS / READ THIS : :
I ordered the 550 with the 9mm conversion kit and 9mm die set.
I set everything up and had majer issued with the primers seating properly... it drove me crazy.
Turns out the 550 comes with the large pistol primer bar installed on the machine.
There is a very small 5in X 4in paper that comes with the 550 that informs the user of this.
Once I swapped the primer bar the machine works absolutely flawlessly.
I hope this helps someone out there.

@jnjoblon I betcha THAT would cause a problem! I actually bought the instructional video that Dillon puts out and it guided me through the entire process effortlessly. Of course..primer bars were mentioned in the video, so I didn't have that problem...but since I had been working off of an RCBS single stage and bench primer machine..I knew what to look for in the way of primer bars. I'm sure there are others that did the same thing you did!! Thanks!!

Get a primer bar bearing kit. It installs easily and has a bearing to keep the primer pickup bar aligned. It also comes with a stainless steel slide. Makes primer misfeed a thing of the past.

I won't say ALL Dillons are like that, but the fact remains... The machines need adjusted and tweaked at times to accomplish all the functions. It's not like a piece of electronics that just works flawlessly right out of the box. These machines need to be set up properly at first and slightly adjusted and maintained throughout the time you own it. This rod adjustment is just a fix that worked for me in getting the primers to load without hanging up or misfeeding! I hope it helped!!

My dad bought a used Dillon 550RL from a fri6of mine that no longer had the room in his house or time to reload. We set it up this past Friday an vs that's one of the problems we are having with it and we'll try that. Also the screws that come in through the bottom under the primer bar keep coming loose, I tightened them up but then it's too tight and the primer bar doesn't move. I back them off a hair and within 3 or 4 strokes they're so loose the whole assembly is sloppy. Another issue we are ha6is sometimes a primer feeds upside down or sideways. We know we got them fed into the tube correctly however.

congrats on new 550 , i got a 550 and a 650 with casefeeder , the 550 loads about 100 rd in 5 min ( takes longer to set up than load) . 650 is faster ( with the rf-100 primer filler, which i have). if it dont come in blue i dont have , i love dillon had both presses since 2000 , and combined i load 15,000 shells ( could not go back to old rcbs now, dillon is too fast).
