    Hey Lydia, I'm a last-year med student in Italy. The first year is tough, just remember to always put yourself and your mental health first. If you prioritise yourself you'll be able to study and live better (and not only survive). It took me a while to understand it, it's easy to get lost in all the work we're supposed to do. Good luck with everything!

    You are one of my favorites, because my nephew got into Yale, Princeton Cornell, John Hopkins. He choice Yale because they gave him the best financial package.
    But I so admire you for getting in Brown PLME and going to Arizona BSMD to hopefully come out with Medical school with little debt as possible!
    Stay strong you can pull through!

I've been following your videos for a while now and im a big fan !!! I love your vlogs and cant wait for ur future vlogs!!

    Dear Lyd, I’m so happy you pulled through. College is NOT EASY. I think, we live in a world of extremes where either one thing is romanticised or pathetically criticised. However, I believe that the experience of each one of us varies from the fact that how open we’re to the change. We were never made for a fast-pace world, that is one acceptance that has really helped me. When I’m not doing the best in the class, I constantly remind myself that IT TAKES TIME. The feeling of being anxious and getting overwhelmed is really heavy, to say the least. But believe me, slowly being patient and not being too hard on yourself becomes a habit. IT TAKES TIME, BUT IT BECOMES A PART OF WHO YOU’RE.
    I send you all the love and light to help you through tough days. Keep trying stuff like yoga, activities (physical) which really helps you feel centred. Just a quick reflection - I’ve cried/complained/had a really major breakdown during my school and now I’m in my PreMed Journey, and sadly the amount of work is ginormous. It’s tough, I cry, I give myself time to grief but then at the end I try to seek out the wisdom.
    ❤️❤️

    My first year in college was rough, but you really learn a lot. I had a breakdown on the first day of classes, causing me to miss my first class. Those moments are normal and it’s important to recognize that. Just make sure to prioritize yourself (physical health and mental health), find things you love doing and work those into your schedule. I had to learn this the hard way last semester and that semester really hit me hard. This is coming from a second year biomedical sciences student, so I have a certain degree of understanding your situation

    The UofA is top notch in its sciences…always remember that. Always remember your journey, where you are going, and to breath along the way. Self reflection is a must if you are to change, adapt, and persevere in college. As a senior this year at the UofA my best wishes to you and your journey!

    Congratulations on surviving your first weeks of college! I’m a senior studying genetics and I still have breakdowns on the weekly. It’s hard every year but it does get better once you get into a routine and the further you get into college, the faster the routine will come each semester. You’ll figure out what works for you very quickly . I get super overwhelmed at the beginning of each semester when I get the syllabus and see everything I have to do that semester all at once but it’s rarely as bad as I expect it to be. You got this!

    Hi Lydia, I am also a freshman at the U of A this year and I also experienced a lot of the same challenges as you. I would just like to pass on some advice that my mother gave me. The best thing is to just take one step at a time, because even if the path ahead is difficult to see, if you can just see your next step, take it. You're gonna go far kiddo.

  • @landonabramomusic9930
    @landonabramomusic9930 Год назад +6

    Hey Lydia. I'm Landon and I'm also a freshman at UA. My major is not nearly as difficult as yours and even I cried like 4 times the first week. It's completely normal and understandable to feel overwhelmed especially with all these new adjustments. I'd definitely say that if u ever are feeling overwhelmed with school work, the best thing to do is take a break. Spend 30 minutes to an hour doing something you enjoy to get yourself back into a positive mindset, before returning to your work. Typically when I start to feel like this I'll go to the gym, or explore the campus (it's so beautiful), or just do something to distract and de-stress myself for a little while. I also just wanted to say thank you for letting me know that I'm not alone in feeling stressed abt college and that these feelings are normal.

    Loved your transparency in this video! I’m a senior in high school applying to the BS/MD and your videos have been really helpful in understanding the process. I’ve got a question- what are you majoring in/ are you in an honors program? The classes seem pretty difficult!

    • @BSMDLyd
      @BSMDLyd  Год назад

      I am part of the APME program at UA, majoring in Physiology :) I think a lot of the difficulty comes from the fact that I'm taking chemistry and upper-level physiology at the same time, so I have 6 hours of science lectures per week and 6 hours of their respective labs as well. Hope that helps!

  • @gabriellelakso2303
    @gabriellelakso2303 Год назад

    Can you talk about the “wiggle room” in the BSMD application process- like do I need to have 12 APs and be valedictorian or can I weigh heavier on hands on healthcare experience?

    • @BSMDLyd
      @BSMDLyd  10 месяцев назад

      BS/MD apps are usually holistic, meaning every part of your application is considered. Your essays also have a major impact on your application. Without knowing all the details about your app, I can't give specific advice, but as long as you have a cohesive story that shows growth, perseverance, drive, and passion, you should definitely apply. Most BS/MD students tend to fall in the "12 AP, valedictorian, 5.0 gpa" category but that's definitely not true in all cases. You never know what an admissions committee could be looking for!
