    AAAA Lyd!! CONGRATS on completing year 2!! Crazy how time flies by! some little updates: while my GPA didn't turn out how I wanted, I grew so much in my first year despite... well.... *unique* circumstances in my second semester. I kinda got tossed around the barrel this year, but I'm grateful for what it taught me! I also got accepted to BU (pending Tufts decision) and I'll be transferring schools! I love Northeastern, but they don't have a medical school or early assurance programs, so. I also am working with a really great lab and have been able to start making impacts in fellow patient's lives! I'm trying to prep for Nationals with my barn for next year, so there's that too. Anyways, I'm on a ramble. Loved this video and all of your content, as always, Lyd! I'll be in Europe + Canada for the summer, so that'll be fun! Bisous et passez un bon été!!

      Congrats on finishing up your first year :) Loved getting to follow your journey through the comments- so proud to hear about your lab work and best of luck with Nationals!! Lmk how it goes on the next video haha.
      Profites des vacances en Europe et Canada! ✈🌎

    So jealous it’s summer break for you! It’s becoming winter here in Australia so it’s a bit chilly. On top of that it’s exam season … 😖

    Congrats on doing so well in your second year! As a Comp Sci major, Bio Chem sounds so difficult, but I'm sure it'll only get more challenging from here, but it's clear you've got what it takes! My calculus for engineers course nearly killed me this semester, so I'm definitely not cut out for anything harder. 🤣 I do love watching people pursue what they're passionate about though, so I've enjoyed following your journey.
    I hope you have a great summer! I'm working all summer doing tech support - it'll be boring, but I'm getting the boring IT work out of the way in hopes of getting a GOOD IT job out of school.

    Hi Lydia! Can you make a video of how you use your iPad for school please? I’d love to see if you use any specific apps, what works best for you, etc. I prefer writing down notes, but haven’t made the transition to iPad because I’m stumped on how I’d use it. Reading and lectures is definitely easier on it, but I’d love to note take more and make study guides. Love your positivity and how informative your videos are. Tysm!

    • @BSMDLyd
      @BSMDLyd  23 дня назад

      Yes this is a great idea! Would love to make a video on this. I use Goodnotes for class notes and that’s about all I use. It’s very comprehensive and you can even upload slides from lecture and annotate directly on them. I was also a strictly pen and paper gal until I made the leap of faith to iPad and now I’m unable to go to class without it. Try it out and give it a few weeks and you might find the same will be true for you! :)

    I love your videos so much, Lyd! And a big fan of your kitty cat!😺
    Can I share something? I've been chronically ill for a decade now, and been through so much medical gaslighting that I always wonder what happens to physicians along the way. What makes so many become jaded and distrustful? Do we push doctors so hard that they burn out and inevitably become resentful? Do they come across a faker and then believe everyone else is faking? I wish there was more support for doctors as well as more bedside manner education. I think we hail doctors as heroes (because in many ways they are!), but also forget along the way that they are human. And I believe that sometimes they forget too. I wish my doctors put their egos aside and just admitted when they reach the limit of their knowledge/the knowledge in the field. Bonus if they acknowledged that they believe my physical pain and referred me to someone who might be able to help me. Kind honesty with a side of empathy! Recently a young doctor took the time out of her day to explain WHY I needed an operation and dumbed it down so I understood what wasn't working and how they would fix it. When I tell you I cried happy tears just because she took the time to explain... I wasn't afraid at all to go under and everything went well! I guess all this rant to say that I have so much hope for the Gen Z generation of doctors. And I see your videos and I am filled with even more hope.
    Always take care of yourself, because at the end of the day, as a patient I don't care what grades my doc got in med school, all I truly need is to be heard and believed by someone who is well as well and hasn't been jaded. 💕

      @BSMDLyd  3 месяца назад +1

      Literally going to print out your comment and refer to it when things get hard. THIS is the reason I went into medicine. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing this about you. The truth is, I don't know what makes doctors like that as I haven't endured the grueling training yet, but I hope I can make a difference even if it's at the level of my patients. I don't pretend like I can change the system, but if I can be the doctor that says "I see you" to the patient who has been dismissed by so many others, then I'll be happy. I'm sorry to read about your chronic illness and I'm so grateful for your kind words regarding my channel. Not many people know this about me, but I actually had a chronic illness in high school that I am still experiencing residual symptoms of (joint pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, post-exertional malaise, and other random "we don't know what's wrong with you" symptoms.) I visited 12 medical specialists and was ignored and invalidated just because I was an adolescent, so they wrote it off as me faking it or seeking attention. They said it was anxiety or stress when I had real, physical manifestations of my illness that they chose not to address.
      In high school, I created a support group called "Chronic Connections" and sent symptom tracking journals to people worldwide. We had a large community of chronically ill teens and it opened my eyes to the fact that this is a systemic issue in medicine and adolescent health. I went on the news in many different countries to advocate for kids/young adults. Here it is: chronicconnections.wixsite.com/long-haul-covid
      The sad reality is, I can see it in my peers already. Some treat medicine as the next trophy or medal to add to their collection. I've heard terrible things from my peers like "not everyone deserves empathy" and "I'm just gonna make bank, I don't care that much about med" and it is absolutely heartbreaking. But trust me when I say that some of us out here genuinely hope to be better for patients like you, because when you've been on the other side of the hospital bed, it changes your perspective on the delivery of care and the sheer impact that health professionals can have on someone's life.
      Thanks again for sharing and for following my journey - I'm not gonna say "hope you feel better soon" because I know all too well that this isn't a thing in the chronic illness community.
      Sending spoons 💕

    Which three high school classes do you think were helpful for you in college?

    • @BSMDLyd
      @BSMDLyd  3 месяца назад

      Honestly none 😅😂 my Advanced Biotechnology class was dual enrollment through the University of Arizona and it was extremely challenging and a good preview for Biochem, but I would say that the difficulty of college classes is completely unlike any class I took in hs, even AP classes. The best thing you can do to prepare is take classes that teach you how to digest large amounts of information at a very rapid pace. We covered all of AP Biology in the first 2 lectures of my physiology class. Just learn how you work best and solidify good study skills because in my experience high school classes didn’t prep me for the level/difficulty of the content in college, but taking AP classes taught me “how” to study. Hope that makes sense!
