  • Watch me get dragged through a rough week in college! This week was full of setbacks and frustration, but I managed to push through and find a way to be productive and grounded most of the time. The reality is that not every week is going to be perfect or exciting, and I figured it was time to show you what a relatively average week looks like for me.
Enjoy the video and see you next time for a more upbeat vlog :)
Follow along to see what a week in my life is like in the Accelerated Pathway to Medical Education Program at the University of Arizona.
Feel free to drop any questions you might have below and I'll do my best to get to them all! :)

First, I'm sorry you had a rough week! Second, I agree, I think it's so important to be honest that it isn't always fun and easy, especially with a program like a BSME. I'm sure you don't remember, but I am a computer science major, so not NEARLY as difficult, and even I have weeks where I'm super stressed and just need a good cry. I think we need to keep normalizing that. I honestly don't know how you do your program, Comp Sci stresses me out. BSME? Nope! I'd die of stress! Plus I'm just not that smart. haha

Just wanted to say that I’m sorry you are feeling this way! It takes a lot of vulnerability to show others the hard parts in our lives. We all have times that are the worst and just do not seem to go right, and no matter what you do it all just goes south. Hopefully there are better days and weeks to come and things get better! You got this! :)

coucou lydia!! i'm so proud of you for pushing through the rough parts of college. You're an absolute inspiration, even if you have ups and downs. College is SO rough and you've got it!! I'm almost done with this semester (hoping for a 3.7 gpa or higher!) I have some updates that will hopefully make you smile: i did my ballet company's performance of swan lake today! I also am finally starting to get the hang of college (ish) and I have 3 interviews for a prestigious lab that I get to do research with!! super excited to get clinical genetics counseling practice since i want to be a peds rare disease geneticist. I hope you're having a great rest of the spring semester!! milles des bisous

Hey there, I work in medicine too. Its nice to see someone high achieving being vulnerable and opening up about set backs and things like you show. Honestly we all fail but unfortunately we feel alone because we think its only us and no one else. medicine is a long journey, its a life essentially. And the big lesson I have learned is its not worth putting life and happiness in pause just because you want to be a doctor and are do med school. its a never ending journey of you have to achieve this, then this, then that. it goes on and on. I am over putting the very important aspects of my life on hold for chasing one thing that gets farther and farther complex the more you chase it. I hope you relate and understand as you go along this journey. It looks like you have a great support system and that is what you really need to achieve. Good luck and have fun.

@@BSMDLyd Dear Lydia, I just want you to know that you are a big inspiration to all the girls and women out there. When I was young I had no one and a lot of people were very condescending and unsupportive. So seeing someone like this be successful and do it and achieve and be happy means a lot to us and me specifically. ❤

I love mouse studies!!! And its especially cool when the studies can be applied to the patient as well (I've done some research studies for my genetic syndrome and my previous geneticist did a lot of mouse studies).

it's always hard finding out having to deal with adult life and well life in general is hard. Sometimes life does not work out how you want it to be day to day or week to week. Being able to deal with it is what growing really is...

Along with the full ride, she is also close to her family which is obviously super important for her. She seems to have a great, supportive family, so I think that must help so much with getting through the stress of a BSME.

@@BSMDLyd Plus you are saving that $$$$$$$. Remember the story I told you about the last person from my nephew High school who got into Harvard was 8 years ago. He got into all 8 ivys and attended Harvard. The same year another individual from the south got into 8 ivys but they decided to attend Alabama honor college because of $$$$. Today both of them have graduated from Columbia medical school..One with much less debt. Your Journey is your Journey.
