I can appreciate all the work it took you to get into the BS/MD programs, as one of my best friends from college is graduating next month from the Drexel BS/MD program and starting her residency soon! I'm a relatively new pediatric oncology nurse, myself, and we really need people in the medical field as passionate about medicine as you clearly are. Congratulations, you'll be a fantastic physician someday!
Congratulations to your friend on her recent match!! Thank you so much for your kind words- hearing this from a professional like yourself truly means the world :)
Your high school is so good! And you took full advantage of it! Well done! How did you learn to edit? Your editing is on point to illustrate what you are saying.
Thank you for another amazing video! I am a current sophomore in high school, and although I am leaning towards going into the mathematical field rather than the medical one, I have really enjoyed watching all of your videos and experiencing this part of your journey. I am currently reaching out to hopefully shadow a professor and learn a bit about the research that they are doing. My interview is coming up, and I was wondering if you had any tips. Once again, thank you for your dedication and informative videos, I am so excited to see what your future holds. Congratulations Lydia!
Hi @Madz S, thank you for your kind comment! So excited to hear about your upcoming research opportunity! Please email me at bsmd.lyd@gmail.com and we can chat about interview tips!
You will make a very good physician. You remind me of a younger version of the pediatrician I had as a kid. You explain things very well, and inspire trust in your would-be patients.
Hello Lydia! I am very happy you posted a stats video! Can you make a video or tell us how you made the Wix website? Thank you! Keep up with the good work! 😊
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have just started my high-school journey at a bio-med high-school, and while my 1st semester is not finished, I have a B+ in History which I thought was the end of the world. Hopefully I can end this semester with an A- at least 🤞 I got a lot of confidence from watching your video today! Thank you so much!!!
Very mature lady!!!! :) Props to you to doing all those classes! I wanted to become some sort of doctor when I was younger, but yeah I definitely didnt have AP courses or any of that I was in the “lower” level classes because I did so bad testing because im not good at that, but I was still able to partake in getting a doctorate and going to physical therapy school this fall which ill have a doctorate in! :) Props to you on those scores again I was never good at those exams and was actually nervous I wasnt gonna get into Pt school cuz of my semi low gre score lol when I found out I had todo an exam to get into grad school I was like ahh sh** Lol🤣
Thanks for breaking down the extracurriculars. I'm right now looking to apply for my MS in genetics but need prereqs. I've done some advocacy and Community service and hoping to do some research and shadowing. It really helped me.
Hi Lydia! Just wanted to say that I am fascinated by your extracurriculars! Do you have any tips on making a nonprofit more expandable and turn it internationally?
I LOVE THIS AND YOU because Im currently a sophomore in high school, took AP GOV freshman year and honors geo and ended with a B+ in both classes:( I cried for weeks but just ended my first semester with all As.
Hi!!! You are really really inspiring💖 I hope you start to upload more videos and maybe vlogs about your university daily life, also how do you organized yourself to study a lot, tips and all that! It will be amazing and helpfull, greetings from Argentina🥰
That disclaimer is something that I try to keep in mind. I also love what you said in your decision reaction video about the application not reflecting you as a person. Good video, can't wait for more content!
Thank you! I think there is such a large focus on academic excellence and college admissions these days that we tend to lose sight of ourselves as individuals. I'm glad you're able to separate school from your worth!! :)
Good evening! Congratulations on your achievements. You have worked very well. Also, you did a great job with extracurriculars as well. Including with your community services. Good luck with your medical studies. Great video by the way! Also, great content that you have. I have enjoyed your video so much. I will be earning my AA degree in December. After I complete with my AA degree in general studies from a community college, I will be earning my BA degree in journalism or communication from university. Television is my dream career as an actor, singer, and journalism. I graduated from high school in 6 years ago. Also, I am working on my own book for right now. I have been working on it for 2 years during the pandemic. My name is Andres by the way. It is pleasure to meet you. God bless you and your family. 🙏
How did you get creative mode in real life, okay but seriously, great job, you gave me a new perspective on what to do, and thank you for uploading this video.
hey! this was really inspiring to watch as i'm currently an az senior getting ready to apply to apme! we have really similar interests and biotech just became a class at my high school so this was cool to see someone else also take biotech and express their passion for it! i started a hosa chapter at my school so we're still pretty new and haven't won many awards - do you think this would still be fine since it shows iniative even though i dont have awards for it? thank you and congrats on apme!
Sorry I didn't see this in time to provide a helpful answer, but to anyone reading this comment who has a similar question- yes, starting a HOSA club still shows initiative and passion, regardless of the fact that you won't have any awards by the time you apply. Best of luck and hope college goes well for you!
hey! I would love it if you could make another video explaining how you were able to land shadowing (online as well as in person) opportunities as a high schooler and any medical-related summer programs that you know of - i am a high schooler planning to go into medicine as well so it would be great if you could give us a little insight on stuff like this! also congratulations !! so so proud of you and your accomplishments
Hey!! Thank you for the content idea! I will try to cover this in a future video. So glad to hear you plan on applying! Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the process. :)
Thank you!! Still exploring :) Most of my shadowing has been in IR so far (which I've loved), but I am very excited to learn about all the other incredible areas of specialization within medicine.
I’m a 17 year old aspiring doctor from India. The acceptance rate here is less that 1%. That being said many people take gap years. Your reaction and scores videos reminded me of my purpose of serving the community. Watching your videos reignited the passion to be a medical practitioner. Love your videos. They’re truly inspiring. All the best for your BSMD programme. Also, you’re too pretty!!
Udita, I'm so glad my videos were able to remind you of your purpose. I have no doubt you'll achieve whatever you set your mind to. Wishing you the best of luck on your path to medicine :)
You've been incredibly focused from an early age on: the amount of stress and anxiety you experienced (from so many scholarship and interview situations) is both alarming and admirable. And all while being a teen! How much influence did your Mom have on this process as there was no mention of Dad? Does medicine run in your family?
Thanks for the kind words! Both of my parents were incredibly supportive throughout the application process. I am the first to pursue medicine in my family.
thank you so much for this video! do you know if I should submit my 33 ACT to a bs/md program? i know some are test optional but didnt know if i should!
Oh my Gosh.Woooah Congratulations my friend. And hey my GPA is 2.0 so can you help me to know really im eligible to apply to American top 20 Schools with that GPA? I'm International Student.
I don't have any knowledge of how international applicants are reviewed by American universities. I would consult with your academic advisor! Best of luck on your journey!
My school is really small, less than 500 students total. Therefore we have limited classes and clubs. What is a good recommendation on how to build a college application with those restraints?
The sky is the limit! Start your own club, establish a HOSA chapter at your school, self-study for AP exams that you want to take but that aren't offered, etc. If you want more in-depth help for this situation feel free to email me. You got this!!
Im a freshman in high school and I am taking 5 AP classes this year: AP world, AP Art History, AP psychology, AP Comp Science Principals, and AP Chemistry. I’m also taking Spanish 2, La 9, and trig/pre calc. I have 97s and 100s in all of my classes but my La 9 score is a 92. I also had a very bad test score in AP chemistry (50%) and that dropped my grade down to an 80. It’s the end of the quarter and my grades are locked in. I guess my question really is what was your lowest test score and do you think I’ll still get into a BSMD program even with my bad grades?
Do you have any advice/tips on applying for BS/MD programs ? How do you get in without doing any of the premed subject not offered at your school. I’m an international student and we have no options to do subjects such as biotechnology and biomedical sciences ?
Hi! Try to take as many science courses as you can, and seek involvement in activities that are related to medicine and your other passions. I am not very well versed with the process for international students, so I would recommend speaking with your academic advisor. Best of luck!
i'm a freshman in high school right now and my school also has hosa (which i'm running a position for in my school hosa club)! i also want to apply for a state position and seeing you got vice president in your state what are some tips you can provide when running for a hosa state position?
Be yourself during the interviews, ask past state officers from your own state for advice regarding the process, and get a strong letter of rec from your advisor by participating in the club as often/meaningfully as possible! Also, start networking with people at the state conference and fall conference, that way you'll have a network of people ready to vote for you based off of networking and friendship when the time comes to give your speech and run in the spring! Best of luck!
Hi! One question, if we already achieved our associates degree in highschool, would it still transfer to the APME program of 7 years to make it only 5?
No, even with an associates degree you would need to complete the full 7 years, that includes 3 full years of undergrad. Students are encouraged to explore during this time and they don’t allow you to skip any years. Hope that helps!
Please see my Q&A video for the full explanation :) long story short: 1) got a full ride + stipend + 1 year of med school scholarship at my in state university 2) wanted to stay close to family for medical school 3) wanted to stay in the west-coast climate ☀️
Start a HOSA chapter from scratch! This is really valued on apps. You could also join your school's pre-health club, science olympiad, academic decathlon. If your school doesn't have a club, start your own! Good luck :)
I took stats concurrently with precalculus in my junior year and ended with AP Calculus AB in my senior year. If BC is available at your school and it makes sense in your math progression, definitely take it. I wouldn't recommend taking AP Stats by itself- you should have a core math class all four years.
@@BSMDLyd thank you for the reply. So i will be taking calc ab my jr year and then have an option of calc bc or ap stats my sr year. For bsmd, which would you recommend?
@@Beck-Stein I wouldn't take stats by itself because it's not really a "core" math class. I would take AP Calculus BC to show you've taken advantage of the most rigorous course offerings at your high school. Take stats as an extra or elective class. Stats is important for the sciences and used a lot in college, so take both if you can with the priority being Calc BC.
I plan on it!! Stay tuned for a dorm tour, vlogs, study w/ me, and other videos in college! Feel free to drop some suggestions if there’s any specific content you’d like to see :)
