I actually like the whole "find a symbol to open the door" mechanic. Notice she never actively tries to push open the door beforehand. She physically CANNOT until she finds matching symbols. A big part of psychosis and schizophrenia is pattern recognition, finding links to things that don't have links, and the inability to complete a task because of imaginary barriers to overcome. The doors were open the entire time. There was no magic blocking the path, only her own mind.
"I imagine that you're going to fight Surt as the final boss of this area, considering all the shit that's been talked." Shit such as "You have to fight Surt to move on"?
Regardless of my own opinion of this game, I'm absolutely amazed how divisive these comments are. Seems like everyone would give this game either 1 star or 5, with no middle ground.
You can see what they're doing with the combat voices. They're making it so you can trust those voices when you're in combat. Later on, they will DEFINITELY either betray you, or tell you to do something that leads to a bad ending.
When I saw that monument with the moving textures, I was totally thinking of Silent Hill 3 right before Pat mentioned it. *Bond with Pat has increased.*
This game looks fuckin awesome! Wish I could watch you guys play it more, I really enjoyed these videos. Thanks for the great content boys! Oh and Ninja Theory!
Isn't Surt like an extremely massive, powerful, primordial demon-type character? How does a woman with Psychosis just walk up and kill him like that? Still a cool game though.
The same reason why Kratos can kill most of the Greek Pantheon, because it is cool, and because it is a videogame... Well, in this particular case the second point may not be applicable, but you get my point...
You missed one of the exposition stones at the gate where senua got the rot it was left of the main door you couldn't go through, That was the C you missed it looks like each chapters exposition stones are separated by the white dot between them.
I was a little luke-warm on this game, it looked interesting, but the puzzles weren't really grabbing me... ... And then the music started on that boss-fight... FUUUUUUCK, I'm getting this game!
I hate to break it to you guys, but the sequences with Druth, as well as Senua's parents and husband are all live-action layered over the gameplay. The reason Druth looks more real than Senua is because they just recorded the actor wearing that costume and layered lighting effects over it. I wish somebody could achieve cgi animation that lifelike, but this is not that. Still some damn fine animation on Senua.
Fun fact? That guy they kept saying was photorealistic IS actually live-action. They shot a guy in costume in front of a green screen and composited him into the game. All humans in this game except for Senua herself are live-action, but the effects used are so effective that it's completely seamless.
The scenes where Druth shows up are clips of the actor in front of a green screen. The reason you don't get uncanny valley is because it's an actual person. Woolie is correct.
There was a great character in the Starship Troopers animated movie, a dude that had a tattoo for every single religon. They'd always ask him, "Which one is gonna save you today?" and he'd just point to a couple of them. Gotta cover all your bases.
Ok but for real though, this game looks amazing. Like, story-wise alone this looks so fascinating, I am so drawn into it and honestly want to see more.
At 17:57 in the doorway This game just got super fucking spook. Hats off to the guys behind DmC to rebound pretty good with a game more focused on their strengths as writers rather than forgettable combat.
Surt's fight was one of the highpoints of the game for me. Just the buildup, and then the music playing, and the new mechanic that you have to figure out for yourself.
I don't know why there's so much hate for the game that's priced at $30. It's a puzzle game with combat, with a good premise and detail. Maybe everybody is salty that it's backed by Ninja Theory, and don't like walking from place to place.
its simple, its an ultra linear walking simulator with very generic and never changing combat mechanics its about 10 bucks to expensive for what it actually is for you americans and 30 too expensive here in brasil
Maioly the combat is deep enough with a little challenge. Detailed combat would feel bad for a game that is inspired by psychosis. I enjoy the journey of the story and voices you hear. A game this good looking is fine at 30.
You know your opinion is totally valid and the only part i disagree with is the "walking from place to place part" why would i pay for that if i already do that in real life ? Now all salt apart from this, i believe Ninja Theory is capable of making great games, they just need to stop putting "art" before "game" when they make a videogame.
Taking Surt's path technically sequence breaks the game in that you were supposed to obtain that runic mirror on Senua's belt from Druth in the other path.
wow at all the negativity! Sure the game isn't interesting combat-wise... but EVERYTHING else is amazing! The art direction, the sound direction, the actors, the story, the main subject (psychosis)! It definitely deserves praise, way more than the other game they released before that!
The game is a walking simulator with puzzles an 8 year old on crack cocaine can do with his eyes closed, the combat is boring, the visuals aren't that great, its just woodlands with some blur here and there. The story isn't anything new either and has been done multiple times before. Sound might be nice but it's just a niche pick.
to be fair the combat is actually a lot more fun woolie makes it look like there are more than four moves woolie just isn't trying different combinations
So far this game looks pretty solid. I don't expect this game to be boundary pushing for the genres that it represents, but rather a journey for the player to undergo. Games are technically art, which means that it's subjective. People have certain taste to what makes a game great. Story, Gameplay, Replay Value, "FUN". They want to play a game that can justify their time/payment towards it. I haven't read too much into Ninja Theory after the whole Devil May Cry Remake shitstorm (I'm a fan of the originals yet have a neutral respect towards the 2013 release for what it offered gameplay wise, but would've prefer it be called something else) but based on this alone, they learned to best stick with something original and invest in quality time for development in order to provide a solid experience.
The beginning is a good introduction to the game's use of binaural audio but Surtr is also a fantastic use of it. In the game with headphones when you activate the fire sacrifices, it's terrifying. Loud screaming crosses your ears and as you run you hear the wails and suffering of people all around you. It's so good.
Good ol' salty comments from people who haven't actually played the game and think anything with a decent story is pretentious. I do so love the internet!
17:40 Woolie talking about how it'll be easier to find the X while the entire left side of the screen is filled with that X, which he somehow misses, was painful to watch.
No it shouldn't. Dark souls is not designed in a way that would make limited continues an okay mechanic. Forcing people to replay everything over and over just because they are having trouble in one spot and ran out of continues is not fun or enjoyable. Very very few people actually enjoy bullshit like that. There's a reason that limited continues is rare nowadays. It fucking sucks and people hate it.
How about you combine them? Every time you die, you hollow a bit. Then when fully hollow you have the choice to invade somebody, or use a Humanity/Human Effigy. In response to this, Humanity and Effigies are much rarer. This would also add more weight to covenants like Darkwraiths.
It's always amazing to me how finely tuned the human brain is at recognizing faces and reality that we can immediately tell the difference between almost-real CG and actually real video of people. It happened in Avatar. The technology is very, very good, but unless CG gets way more convincing, it still won't trick the brain into believing that these CG people you're seeing are real.
The comments here seem exceedingly hostile about this game. It looks perfectly fine. It's not incredible in terms of gameplay, but if you just want a neat story with very simple gameplay, it's fine. I think it has good presentation.
Because they made DMC a thing and dissed the old fans, gamers are like elephants, they never forget and they will run like a wild stampede if you mess with things they love.
This is why I said it was a bad idea to do a vid on this. This is not a game to watch. It is specifically designed in that most of it's content is only experienced actually playing the game. You're not going to get shit watching because all you are waiting for is combat.
King of the Moon everyone complaining about the game probably thinks you either need 2000 mechanics and overly complex systems to make a game fun, or just hate Ninja Theory for Enslaved/DmC. Games ok, like 6/10. Would probably only recommend if you dig Norse mythos and/or slow, heavy combat.
Okay, I don't think people know what "walking simulator" means anymore. A Walking Simulator is a game with _no fail state_ no combat, and no actual challenge. It's not "any game with a lot of walking."
I think you're mistaking, the dude seems to really be a video. I remember during development they've went through extensive make up and costume sessions sometimes, they might have recorded clips like that.
That freaky shaman dude who fades in and out of reality referred to a group of god called "the devourers." The original word for the giants of Norse mythology, "jotun" roughly translates to eater or devourer (which might explain why that guy changed "titan" to "eotan" on the crunchyroll subs of "AoT," they are giant devourers). The word giant came to replace jotun once english started moving into nordic regions along with Christianity. This is why jotun are often thought of as beings of great size. While many of them were as large as mountains, they weren't necessarily any larger or smaller than a man, though they could often change forms as well.
Good to see that Ninja Theory still doesn't get how to do Weapon "trails" or whatever you want to call that straight up PS2 Effect whenever you swing your sword.
For your question? Aloy. She literally overcomes all odds and fights giant robots, she unlocks most of the history of her world through sheer grit, each of the main story missions is basically a tomb raid that Laura would probably have failed, and she's probably the most skilled fighter out of all of them in the long run.
That hallucination dude is actually live-action. The reason they put the filter over him is to disguise this. Another indicator of this game not having the largest budget.
I love how it's like pat and woolie are just two more of senua's voices
Right? Because what she needs in her confusion and terror is two guys talking about whether DMX is in prison
@@McPhisto This comment made me loose my shit.
This game in a nutshell:
DARKNESS
IMPRISONING ME
ALL THAT I SEE
ABSOLUTE HORROR!
You should see the final gram trial. Literally the ENTIRE NUTSHELL.
RA RA RA
I FORGOT THE WORDS
*CRAWLING IN MY CRAAAWL*
CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES
THIS IS MY LAST RESORT
I'll do you one better fam:
I HEAR VOICES IN MY HEAD
THEY TALK TO ME
THEY UNDERSTAND
THEY TALK TO ME
:^)
When the Randy Orton DLC coming for this game?
"I hear voices in my head! They come to me, they understand! They talk to me!
Why not a full LP?
Anything to avoid Gabe's punk ass.
Remember, everyone. Pat hates getting shot.
Woolie hates when people set his dreads on fire.
And Matt.. uh.. hates the creepy sex thing?
"I imagine that you're going to fight Surt as the final boss of this area, considering all the shit that's been talked."
Shit such as
"You have to fight Surt to move on"?
pat's stand literally got dmx arrested
Hell of a day for the Arson desk. Good thing the LAPD finally started doing coverage in Viking hell.
"Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice"
Boy, I wonder what's going to happen at the end of the game!
I dunno about the new direction this God of War game is taking you guys. Not enough gratuitous violence if you ask me.
lol, It does look like it doesn't it.
Is it weird that this game is the God of War I want? I like grim low fantasy, though.
Regardless of my own opinion of this game, I'm absolutely amazed how divisive these comments are. Seems like everyone would give this game either 1 star or 5, with no middle ground.
Really hope you guys come back to this and finish it or at least play it till you perma-die
"That looks like a video!"
It is! It's probably the creepiest and coolest FMV ever made!
I like how they are basically two more voices in her head. And from her perspective they are the most annoying of all.
That feeling when you actually, no joke, start screaming "YOU IDIOTS, TURN RIGHT" just as they pass the X Symbol.
This game looks fuckin awesome! Wish I could watch you guys play it more, I really enjoyed these videos. Thanks for the great content boys! Oh and Ninja Theory!
Hyper-realistic ghost man looks just like Matt, he's even got a skull on his hat!
Woolie is bad at reading, walking, AND fighting! The trifecta!
Darrius Cooper Because almost everything in the game is a hallucination.
I should have known. It's Scarecrow's Toxin. Everything cool happens there.
Because it's not actually Surt, it's either completely imaginary or some random viking man in the woods taking a dump.
So I guess the Gods don't exist in this Universe? ... Ehhh...
Seriously? Cat Lady gets a full play through but this only gets 2 episodes? What the actually fuck, guys?
I just realised... Senua has the ability to see the Hunter's Mark from Bloodborne.
*shits popping off all around you*
Five minutes later: “You got some glowing things there...”
Uuuuuugh...
Billy you ask which is best girl, but don't give me any choices that are even Mildly reasonable.
"Sometimes you gotta shake the door to see if its a door"
You missed one of the exposition stones at the gate where senua got the rot it was left of the main door you couldn't go through, That was the C you missed it looks like each chapters exposition stones are separated by the white dot between them.
L.A. Noire but instead of clues, you look for viking runes.
Sorry, sometimes you need to shake yggdrasil to see what falls out.
Dear comment readers, please wear appropriate attire when entering the salt mines down below.
I like how her spirit guide kinda looks like viking Matt
I was a little luke-warm on this game, it looked interesting, but the puzzles weren't really grabbing me...
... And then the music started on that boss-fight...
FUUUUUUCK, I'm getting this game!
Pat apologized about booing something, I feel the end times approach
Also, like Woolie it took me a while till I learned there was a parry.
I hate to break it to you guys, but the sequences with Druth, as well as Senua's parents and husband are all live-action layered over the gameplay. All humans in this game except for Senua herself are live-action, but the effects used are so effective that it's completely seamless.
This game seems good. Luckily I don't care about DMC so I don't have to be a big baby like the others. Wish it was a full LP.
There's live action stuff mixed in with CG that's why Druth looks so real because he is
The scenes where Druth shows up are clips of the actor in front of a green screen. The reason you don't get uncanny valley is because it's an actual person. Woolie is correct.

"Aye. Sorry for booing you at that event..."
As of this video airing, DMX is in fact in jail. Or house arrest. Which is kinda like jail. But for rich people.
At 17:57 in the doorway
This game just got super fucking spook. Hats off to the guys behind DmC to rebound pretty good with a game more focused on their strengths as writers rather than forgettable combat.
Why do we keep putting Woolie "i dont actually look around or explore during puzzles" Madden in charge of puzzles involving looking around?
Decided to come back and finish watching this, and I gotta say, good job Ninja Theory, you managed to make a game that's pretty damn good.
Surt's fight was one of the highpoints of the game for me. Just the buildup, and then the music playing, and the new mechanic that you have to figure out for yourself.
This needs to be a full lp.

The only hate that exists are from people not educated enough to understand that you cannot "watch" this game and expect much.
"Watching" the game is 90% of what the player is doing too. That, and holding forward.

"The game in this game isn't interesting or engaging at all. Why do people dislike this game?"
Not even close to what he said.
The game is a walking simulator with puzzles an 8 year old on crack cocaine can do with his eyes closed, the combat is boring, the visuals aren't that great, its just woodlands with some blur here and there.

Really like the constant voices in your head, sounds like 3-4 people in your brain.
"X should be easier to find"
Proceeds to overlook the giant X on his left
So far this game looks pretty solid. I don't expect this game to be boundary pushing for the genres that it represents, but rather a journey for the player to undergo. Druth is actually an FMV with post-processing affects filtering the appearance to give him a more "ethereal" look.
Or so, I think...
This game feels like a weird ancient Nordic version of Sesame Street. "Can you find the letter 'dæg' in this room? Great job!"
Time for more Norse Dante's Inferno.
I wonder how long its going to take them to notice the hints that flow from the symbols to help you find them.
I love that scene from mummy too, when he started talkin' in hebrew / yiddish mummy said "ooh language of the slaves" so hilarious.
Good ol' salty comments from people who haven't actually played the game and think anything with a decent story is pretentious. I do so love the internet!
17:40
Woolie talking about how it'll be easier to find the X while the entire left side of the screen is filled with that X, which he somehow misses, was painful to watch.
The "For Honor" symbol that Pat saw was a valknut or knot of slain warriors, it's a symbol that was found on Scandinavian tombs
You know what is really nice, having blur motion on and turn 360 every 3 seconds, it's gets really good through the video. thanks Wools :)
The death system in this game is what hollowing in Dark Souls should have been
No it shouldn't. Dark souls is not designed in a way that would make limited continues an okay mechanic. Forcing people to replay everything over and over just because they are having trouble in one spot and ran out of continues is not fun or enjoyable. Very very few people actually enjoy bullshit like that.

King of the Moon I stand by my statement. Also chill the fuck out dude
How about you combine them? Every time you die, you hollow a bit. Then when fully hollow you have the choice to invade somebody, or use a Humanity/Human Effigy. In response to this, Humanity and Effigies are much rarer. This would also add more weight to covenants like Darkwraiths.
jfunk1994 - You mean like DS2?
Luckee Strikee DS2, it only showed on your health bar, not visually on your character. at least not in my game.
It's always amazing to me how finely tuned the human brain is at recognizing faces and reality that we can immediately tell the difference between almost-real CG and actually real video of people. Also DMC was trash, but I don't see how it makes this gam bad.
You're not going to get shit watching because all you are waiting for is combat.
no actually. the DMC fans are not shitting on the game for the sake of it. the game does go downhill half way through.
I see that this is part 2 of 2...please KEEP playing these till the end come on guys!
That "For Honor symbol" you saw is called a valknut, the symbol of Odin.
Okay, I don't think people know what "walking simulator" means anymore. A Walking Simulator is a game with _no fail state_ no combat, and no actual challenge. It's not "any game with a lot of walking."
Oh, looks like DMX is in jail now again.
I think you're mistaking, the dude seems to really be a video. I remember during development they've went through extensive make up and costume sessions sometimes, they might have recorded clips like that.
God damn it Pat its Dark Man Xtreme! Haha
_But could Senua RKO a god, tho?_
*_And then pull the Legend Killer pose?_*
Time to listen to Peter Stormare whisper about darkness or some shit and stare at super fucking metal environments
Can yous do a whole play through??
The best Silent Hill game seen in years.
I love that from the time of this recording to now (August 11th) DMX went BACK to being in jail.
the ending was near david cage level.
Oh man YES THAT IS SUCH A DAVID CAGE ENDING.
that autotuned mass scream of pain is horrific.
Please do a full playthrough of this Pat and Woolie
The imagery of Druth actually is video.
So, when can we expect a full LP?
22:40
"That's terrible" Pat says, as he tries not to laugh.
i look forward to more of super best mental health awareness!
Good to see that Ninja Theory still doesn't get how to do Weapon "trails" or whatever you want to call that straight up PS2 Effect whenever you swing your sword.
Woolie: *turns the camera to see the x then does a 180*
Pat: I dunno a symmetrical X seems like the easiest thing to see.
Woolie: It really does.
Yes! I'm glad Pat noticed that this game uses pretty much the same effect as Silent Hill 3 sometimes.
"Time for some hall wuggin'!"
You guys ever get mixed up between Matt's: "OG's" and his "OH GEEZ'S" ?
Johnny Bartlett why are you talking about Matt in this video? Hes not in it
MrSakoK Because I live in a free country and I do whatever I feel like doing.
Would be dope pat if you could stream yourself playing this
would love a full LP of this
Question: Is Senua more or less deranged than Pat on a regular day?
Why only 2 parts and not a full lp? Especially if it's only 6 hours long.
For your question? Aloy.
She literally overcomes all odds and fights giant robots, she unlocks most of the history of her world through sheer grit, each of the main story missions is basically a tomb raid that Laura would probably have failed, and she's probably the most skilled fighter out of all of them in the long run.
Why no full lp?
That hallucination dude is actually live-action. The reason they put the filter over him is to disguise this. Another indicator of this game not having the largest budget.
its a video of a real actor. If you watch the senua game diaries, its fascinating how they accomplished a lot of the visuals and audio in this game.
