great to see another common sense solution , my booster cable, 25 ft, 4 gauge was on sale at $12.49 at Princess Auto(Canada). I really hate spending $ when I do not have to, thanks for video....
I added dielectric grease into a crimp connector. Every wire slid out out of the crimp because of the slickness of it. Very frustrating.. It led me to this youtube search. Lol. I'm gonna try these without the grease, or add it to the outside only.
I did this years ago to extend my tiller mounted trolling motors, kept the terminal clamps on. I will tell you that any connections with un tinned copper will corrode.
Hey, great video and kit. My trolling motor positive & negative silver cable is 8 awg. Question is could I use and splice a 16 awg extension copper cable kit to my battery? Jump lead cable is a thicker gauge?
@@addismultitasking3504 Thanks for getting back to me, I since found out by a local auto electrician that 4-6awg jump lead cable would be fine and I have a spare one in my garage :-)
I do like the splice connector. That's exactly what I was looking for, but I wonder how long the wire will last since it's not marine wire? I always thought you needed to use tinned copper for marine wire.
I have two of these units new out of box they will not pull up and anchor 30lbs I used 8 Gauge and 10 Gauge they pull the voltage down on the battery and won’t pull up anchor
Ive mounted 4 of them all work perfect . I assume your using the wrong kind of wire. You must use jumper cable wire, have a good splice and a good battery. I have friends with them as well and no problems
Is this still the right link to the cables, they are $25 now. Walmart search shows the same description "300 Amp 8 Gauge Jumper Cables" for $13.99 but i don't know if they are the same or copper clad.
@@addismultitasking3504 I need 50amps for my 55lb trolling motor. If the cables are only 8 gauge they may not be enough, so im looking at 6 gauge, unless i can find 8 awg 10 feet marine jumper cables. It looks like it is getting harder to find good copper cables now, or i just dont know what im doing.
i was thinking about using battery jump cables myself but wasn't sure it would be ok to do, now i know, thanks for posting
works perfect, have a good weekend
Wow..So Supple!! You are such a teacher.
hope the video helped

your welcome
I was wondering if I could use a set of jumper cables instead of buying wire by the foot and you answered my question. Thanks for the video.!
Glad I could help!
Great video but id be concerned that the wire isn't tinned. What about some thread lock? Had you any issues since installing this splice?
I have a 12v 45lb thrust trolling motor. It has 10 Guage wire now could I splice 8 Guage to extend it. ?
Thank you I just saved 150 bucks
awesome
This is what I was looking for, thank you..
Thanks for watching
I would put some dielectric grease inside to prevent corrosion as well
Great idea..thanks.. have a great rest of the day

@@WayneTX254 grease would go on plastic wire shield closer to crimp connector.
How about soldering the connection after you have connected the wire with this connector?
Just saved me buying expensive cable thanks
thanks for watching, have a good night
Much better than the butt connectors that MinnKota gave me!
For sure
Just the information I was looking for, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Thanks for sharing.

This might be a stupid question but does the screw on that splice go into the shielding of the cable or onto the bare metal you exposed?
bare wire

I would not... you could go 10ga but no thinner

Im in fresh water, been using this method for years with no prob. Salt water use you might want marine wire
Thanks, good advice!
Glad it was helpful!
Would you be able to keep one of the ends of the jumper cables on to connect to the battery?
You sure can
Nice thanks!!!!
No problem!
Thank you really thank you

@@dtresonate505 how far is the battery from trolling motor?
5 ft distance, 8AWG. And for 10 ft distance 6 AWG.

Thanks
Welcome
And what size heat shrink is it please?
1/2 inch diameter
@@addismultitasking3504 Thank you.
Booster cable is mostly plastic and not true awg . If you want to do it right get some 0gauge ofc
make sure cable is Cooper not co-au or copper clad. no aluminum in wire
yep good point
how to see that?
