You are making me more assured, what I have known, that my style is what makes me feel less confused and classy. I have all the things, you have shown in this video. I am 77 and l like to look youthful and you bring what is so me. Love your videos Beth.
how do your arms look in the many sleevelss dresses? mine look wrinkly & loose skin upper arms. I can't wear sleeveless. Younger women can wear those fashions.
@@valeriea.larsson1687 I love wearing sleeveless dresses on a hot summer day. Do you workout or lift weights? Both go a long way to keep your arms toned. But honestly, who cares if your arms don’t look as good as they once did? Sleeveless dresses aren’t reserved for younger women. All ages can rock them.
I am slowly getting my wardrobe where I want it. Beth has taught me so much! I am getting compliments and just recently a young man told me a had a preppy vibe. He made my day!
Sometimes trends are all you can see at our favorite department stores…one of my favorite jacket and slack sources decided it would show mainly ‘shrunken’ styles in my size for fall. I won’t invest in a uniquely sized pricey garment. I have invested in all of these classics! Great video Beth! I did pick up a Monica Vinader pendant.
I love your wardrobe classic videos , I think at age 50 we all have had grandmothers and even mothers or Aunts that have passed down jewelry , my mother and aunt were those women who used to make jewelry , I think maybe it was the 60’s bohemian era in California thing , but I have jewelry , what’s crazy is the new generations don’t seem to want heirlooms , so confusing to me . Everyone wants new things and find it offensive to give hand me downs . I love your style thank you for sharing !
I’m 68 and not able to shop in stores. 4 years went by and NOTHING was added to my wardrobe! I’m inspired once again by your video to keep presenting myself to each day. Thank you for your advice and encouragement ♥️
One of your best videos Beth agree on all your suggestions I am inspired by all the photos so many different combinations to try. Hugs from Sydney Australia.🤩👏👏👏
Hi from the UK! Im gradually trying to replace my wardrobe with better quality classic clothes, I would also add classy trousers to the list, wool mix ones for winter and I have some beautiful wide leg linen ones in summer. They go so well with all my different tops! X
Scarves are magic! I took neutral shirts to South Africa for safaris and a number of beautiful scarves. Months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer and lost my hair … scarves to the rescue. Now that I have some hair again I like scarves for protection from air conditioning!
Skirts are my everyday choice, year-round, along with dresses. I can’t get a decent or comfortable fit in trousers, I’ve been trying for 50 years, my hips and thighs are just too thin and narrow. I love skirts because they only have to fit in one place, the waist (I’ve never found any garment that is actually tight in my hips or thighs, I don’t need to consider them at all). A fully-, or back-only, elasticated waist skirt stays up, unlike trousers which slide off my skinny hips, and feel wonderful on. I love my silk ones from Quince, they’re absolutely perfect, come in many colors and are only $60! I have an unusual body type, but still, there are many others who do also, and there’s no proper fit for us in women’s trousers. I’ve looked into online tailoring services, but they will use only polyester linings, which I just can’t tolerate. Not hoping to find a local tailor to make me a great, ivory or white trouser suit.
Hi Beth, thank you so much (again) for more relevant content! I’m 41 but due to some health issues I have faced the necessity of simplifying my entire life (not only personal related things but also family and home) and you content helps me a lot. That’s have been my way to go for the last 5 years but I still have note achieved in my wardrobe. Your videos confirm it: better wait to get a good quality item over quantity of low quality pieces. You never disappoint! Warm greetings from (a very warm winter 🥵) Brasil!
Great video Beth! I’m 55 and when I think back to a pair of classic Bass penny loafers I had in the mid 80’s when I was in my preppy stage I could cry that they are long since gone. I wish thru the years when I floated thru more of a trendy wardrobe that I recognized the classic pieces I had and kept them. Classic never goes out of style.
I have all these classic items and I adore my silk scarf collection. For over 40 years, I’ve worn them them a lot, whether trending or not. I wear them year-round, except in high summer, it’s just too hot. They add softness, femininity, luxury, color or print to outfits, especially those of only solid-color items. Mine come from all price points, mostly the lower ones, but must be genuine silk; polyester wrinkles badly, gets sweaty and irritates my skin. If you’re “not a scarf person”, be brave and try one, you might love it! I’m longing for scarf, blazer and boot outfits, but we still have nearly three hot months left to go, the rest of August, September and October.
Beth! I'm so grateful to have found you! Your fashion advice is tasteful and right on. There are so many others that show their idea of smart and appropriate fashion that is disappointing. The fashions they feature are most often not flattering for particularly the woman over fifty.
My issue with the cross body bag is that if you are large breasted it lands between your breasts and looks less than chic. Also a white shirt if not often flattering to older skin. I would prefer another neutral.....navy, Carmel, black etc. But thanks for making me decide that I need to can my brown velvet blazer....sigh
This is a great capsule wardrobe but I am still looking for a wardrobe that fits retirement in SW Florida. This just does not cut it for we Naples gals.
I love the way you add a little bit of fashion history to your videos! Classic is my favorite style too, with a little twist or pop of color. Thank you, Beth!
Your advice is timeless and fabulous for us over 50’s. It’s so important to feel great and not invisible. Classy and classic is the way I’ve always looked at impressively dressed women. I always comment when ladies look brilliant at any age! Makes my day and theirs. Thank you 🇦🇺 fan 🥰
Beth, I love your fashion advice and tips for over 50 women! Would you please consider including links to plus size classic clothing that flatters without showing every bulge?
I'm in my early 30s, wanted to check if I'm on the right path. It's great to know where to invest in because they'll be in style forever so I need to get high quality versions. - Classic trench, have! - Well fitted jeans, have! Different styles - A neutral cashmere sweater, Looking - A little black dress, does a jumpsuit count? I don't go to many special occasions where black would look appropriate as it has connotations to being "funeral" colour. For casual outfits, I'm on the lookout for black dresses. - A structured blazer, have! All double breasted - A pair of comfortable flats, have (I don't have time for heels lol, I cancelled anything higher than 3" in my early to mid 20s. I don't like ballet flats though as like more structured shoes. - Silk scarf, don't have, not sure it fits my style, I'd probably tie it in my hair not my neck. - White button down, have, barely wear though, but not letting go, as it is exactly what I'd want if I suddenly needed a white shirt. -Midi skirts, I have midaxis (tomaytoes tomahtoes 😅) I don't like mid calf skirts. -A cross body, looking!
Hi Beth - I purchased several J Crew cashmere sweaters. I find they pill so easily. Any tips to keep them new looking? Should not happened when paying a premium. Thanks so much!
Happy Sunday, Beth. Yes, I live in Phoenix and we will be having warm temperatures up until mid October, so I am still going to be wearing a lot of my summer pieces. I have each of the 10 essential items in my wardrobe that you presented today. I really like the perfect white shirt from Talbot's. I bought my last one a size up so it is roomier. I visited the Monica Vinader shop in Soho, NYC last spring and bought two stacking rings. The packaging is oh so lovely and the rings are very stylish. I plan to visit the shop again at the end of the month as I make my way to visit my daughter and grandchildren in NYC. Shopping is always on my list of things to do in NYC as they have a plethora of options. Always love your looks, Beth.
May I ask what colour and brand of eyeshadow you are wearing? I am looking for a nice bright grey or blue and that is what it looks like you are wearing?
Maybe we could exchange some weather then... 😄 Over here (Norway) it's been raining and raining for weeks. The cashmere sweater looks very comfy and good. And I think it's perfect combined with the black leather skirt. The skirt looks so cool with this zipper (if I'm right) also.
Hi Beth, I’m in my 60’s and I am not a trends girl. I know what I like and it makes me feel good and happy. I love the classic look in addition to some of the more modern styles. Thank you for all your ideas and suggestions.
At the beginning of video, there are 2 gorgeous images of you standing in a black dress and sitting in a blazer adorned outfit with jeans. Could not find anything on the black dress. Is it something recently manufactured ? Would love the details. Thanks. And thank you for your absolutely stunning looks.
I really struggle with the button down shirt that everyone recommends - I hate buttons, get far too hot in long sleeves and jackets/ blazers avoid like the plague - which is one of the reasons I find trying to do a capsule wardrobe doesn’t seem to work for me. I also like colour - reds, yellows, blues etc rather than black. I think I’d like a person to come in and sort me out!!!
Beth. Would you consider doing a classic wardrobe for casual, retirement life?

What happened to Bass shoes? I love them so much, my most comfortable and chic shoes are from them, but I can’t seem to find them nowadays.🙂

Unfortunately Monica Vinader does not sell to Portugal.

Where can we do this on a low budget?
I categorized by clothing item not price. There is a little black dress or a white button up available at every price point.
