      That's exactly how I feel. And I bought my Wii in 2012, nearly at the end of its life cycle. By now it's well and truly obsolete, except for the games I still enjoy playing on it - I'm glad I'm still able to.

      @SapphireChaotix yeah. I was 13 years old, when it launched. And I know I was absolutely excited about those motion controlls, but of course could never get a damn console.
      Now I'm feeling old as shit and I've also came to the logical conclusion that forced motion controlls like on the wii absolutely suck. It had great games tough. Just a little less motion controlls would have been nice.

    I remember, originally you had to pay to download the browser in the early years of the wii. Later on they made it free, but they gave out a free nes game coupon (which was the same prices as the wii browser before it going free), I decided to get Final fantasy just because. I don't think i actually beatened yet holy shit

    The Wii's Internet Channel was my first proper exposure on exploring the wonderful world known as THE INTERNET at my home back in 2008. It changed my life forever. Never stopped exploring the internet ever since.
    Wasn't the first time I was exposed, I remember when I was introduced to the internet at school around the late 1990s.

      The Military was using it in 1969 and businesses and nerds were using it in the 80's but it did go mainstream around 1993 so it is still weird to think about there being more time between now and the Wii than the Wii and the mainstream internet.

      The Wii's internet was never very good. Just use a computer or even a phone. Even a basic phone is multiple times faster internet than a Wii, when the internet actually worked.

    • @mattwolf7698
      @mattwolf7698 3 года назад

      There's not much point to it now anyway, pretty much everybody has a smartphone now or even a computer, those have like at least 10x the specs that the Wii had, the Wii also wasn't HD on top of that. For the time when smartphones were hardly a thing and many families had one computer and most online content wasn't HD anyway, the Wii Browser was decent though.

    I have been hemming and hawing about digging out our old Wii for a while now. It's currently sitting in a box on a shelf in our basement, where it has resided for the past 7-8 years now. We bought the Wii U in 2012 and were sorely disappointed in it. Then, we bought the Switch in 2018 and it's alright, but has just never really done very much for me. I've been reminiscing about the good old days of the Wii and how much I miss that era. I never did beat Mario Galaxy or Mario Galaxy 2 and I have them both sitting in the basement collecting dust. I've also been really wanting to play Wii Sports again for the first time in over a decade. The only problem is that I can't find either the component cables, the power cord, or the sensor bar for our Wii, which means that I would have to invest in purchasing those things and I just haven't decided if it's really worth it for a 15-year-old console and I keep putting it off.

    7:05: Even if the RUclips page DID load, it would not be able to load any videos because the Internet Channel doesn't support HTML5 at all. The Internet Channel was made back in the day when videos were in Flash format, which, of course, is no longer used at all by pretty much *any* website.

    Older versions of Opera (such as Opera 9) use the proprietary Presto rendering engine. Versions of Opera from 2013 onwards were Chromium based. I believe Presto last got an update in 2015, so you’re essentially using a dead rendering engine, which probably doesn’t help in regards to speed or web support. 😂

    The official RUclips app for the Wii still works and I reckon Netflix does too even though I haven't used it. It's basically the same as RUclips for Wii U and Switch but with the obvious caveat of no HD video. I remember using it after WiiConnect24 went down and it still worked when I tried it out last year.
