I loved the tip about forcing them to use a technique by reminding them of it lol. We all fall in that trap, I hadn't ever thought about weaponizing it.
I've been a subscriber but "be sure to subscribe to get fight tips before your opponent does" is genuinely the best tag line I think I have ever heard for a channel.
Love the slip with counter, particularly the step to the outside off their jab, and landing your jab simultaneously. Also, can do a body rip instead, or a turning kick to there stomach or even top of thigh (and yes follow up with overhand right 😃💥)
Speed or quick physical reactions or reflexes and intelligently drawing out your opponent's attack are key to maximizing the effectiveness of the slip-and-rip
can you do a video on the following: why stay in the pocket and risk taking all that damage instead of L stepping/sidestepping/angling out and throwing a counter as you do so? I spar with a guy 80lbs heavier than me who machine guns with straight punches and rushes me and all I do is circle out and as I do, I either do light rapid fire jabs back at him with my close hand and guard my face with my other, or simply slip as I L step and throw a cross counter as I exit on an angle and then keep circling away til he gasses himself out and then I just unload when he's trying to catch his breath. The only time it doesn't work is if I panic, forget the footwork, and 'turn away' or if I don't react quickly enough. I'm new to sparring so that'll just take practice
Rushing < countering < feinting < rushing. If he's a rusher like you say, get him to throw what you want and have some good counters ready. Also, dancing out of range until he gasses is perfect. Wear him down. Use teeps if it's MT/kickboxing. If he's the bull, you're the matador; keep on the outside of the ring and control where he goes by pretending to give him opportunities (that you're ready for and won't be caught by). Never get too close to the ropes.
Nice video. I was wondering if you have ever made a video regarding improving aim on striking, especially kicks. I am struggling to get my kicks to land exactly where I want them too. For example; aiming for a switch kick to the liver tends to land at about tit level. Also, my outside leg kicks tend to land a little high as well.
Like the gear and the walls, also you pointed out using the rear arm to push up the opponents arm to block, or lift it out of the way and counter-strike
I remember my first kickboxing instructor used to make me step outside (slipping externally) and hit with the opposite punch (the one internal to the opponent area). while stepping forward with the foot external to the punch. Any thoughts about that?
Oh definitely! I consider that the “zig-zag” motion that I mention at 2:38 - you can step deeper with that rear foot (I call it a “shift-step,” if you switch your stance from ortho to southpaw) whilst throwing a left jab or hook. That’s a great setup for more punches, plus it works well for MMA to grab that single-leg.
Bro, I have followed your channel for a while now and I love these fight tips. I have been training Muay Thai for two years now and my sensei even watches your videos. Thanks for the shoring up my technique and here to breaking that 3 million subscriber wall!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
2:27 is still a super risky position for a front leg sweep synced with that thrown jab arm, the leg base there is very vulnerable; I’d advice a left roundhouse to the meatiest part of his body in a street fight in case of no KO openings
Definitely! I’d argue it mostly depends on the style of fighter and their striking tendencies. Also, if they are fully committed on their jab, it will take a split-second for them to pull the weight back when going for the foot sweep - by then, you should have already landed the uppercut. Admittedly, my mind was boxing-focused when filming this tutorial, but your suggestion for a left roundhouse kick is one of my favorite strikes to throw! Good call 👍
@@fighttips Thank you for your reply, been a fan since a longtime 🤍, I understand that it was more boxing focused but I tend to always think Real Life because that’s where you can Truly benchmark all the fancy techniques but I agree about the split part because boxers do fast counters but mostly ignore that the leg or kicking or sweeping factor about the fight and depend on that, this is why I wrote that comment, all the Respect, Peace 🤍🤲🏻💕

Tyson style uh i got it.Well for who have great head movement i don't do that because is a risky technique if someone feint can get it wrong and if you step to his punch is not good,i make a similar thing but is by parry the right and step and counter on the liver,to be honest not need to parry at all just step in buy with your hand protecting the face if things go wrong you still have some line of defense now i use that for self defense, against a professional fighter things are a bit different you will need to use all.
Hi Can you please explain me something why when you are slipping to the right outside to avoid the jab you will not just simply hit the jab I did that many times and it works very well but it must be done almost as together will you still making a slip than your jab is coming but it is more like in between jab and huk please let me know if you try you also need to slip a bit to the front which is actually good because even if you are not far enough the opponent punch will not be on full extent and power let me know please
Obviously not everytime, Mat ☺️ But if you effectively landed a strike within the range that you're standing in (i.e. straight punch range), you will find that your opponent tends to "get their point back" with the same strike. Happens with jabs all the time in boxing. Pay closer attention when you spar/study footage 👍

I know slipping to 11 + 1 is good in training but in every fight I've ever seen in the ring and on the street they bend all the way to 9 and 3 then duck under the arm and attacked the head. I'm trained by Benny the jet Urquidez and even Benny tips to 9 + 3. I've even seen Tyson do it.
I couldn't help but notice that you're bending at the waist instead of pivoting with your feet. In Muay Thai, somebody will time the bend of your slip and throw a high kick or a long knee. To prevent this, our gym drills slipping by pivoting with the opposite foot(kinda hard to explain...). I'm orthodox; if I slip to my left(lead), I'll pivot my back foot. Allows rotation in hips, without having to make a big movement to slip. Same if I slip right(rear); I'll pivot my lead foot. In boxing, bending at the waist is more acceptable because you don't have to worry about kicks/knees. But, in kickboxing or Muay Thai, you may want to demonstrate the slip in a pivoting motion to maintain balance(bending leaves you off center) and twisting at the waist.
When I'm pivoting on my foot(whether slipping left or right, think to take your shoulder with you. You're twisting your upper body. This will allow your head to be off the center line without bending.
@@seniknine hey but if u pivot ur lead foot when slipping ud be open for a low kick. I agree with the shoulders and upper body but not so sure about pivoting if the game involves kicks and knees
