- Learning how to navigate with VOR Navigation take a little bit of work, but it's very rewarding. In this video, you'll learn what a VOR station looks like, how to tune in the frequency and follow a course to the station in X-Plane 11.
Learning so much from your channels - Thank you
I’m a 20 hr student pilot and I’m doing more IFR and VOR training tmrw morning bright and beautiful army and this video was so helpful!!!! Thanks a million!
Great, Veni! Keep up the training - it’s so worth it!
unlike many others, your manner speeking is very understandable. thank you.
Thanks Donald!
Donald Mccloskey yes he’s very good
I agree 100%.
I'm trying to learn X-Plane 11 and was confused about VOR flying and you made it so easily to understand and your tone of voice made it more relaxing. Great instructor, Thank you.
Great, Frank! Yes, VOR navigation isn’t the sort of thing that’s easy to figure out or pick up on. It takes some intentional learning, but keep at it - you’ll get it! A great exercise to do is to take off from an airport with a VOR on or near it (like KAHN, for instance). Fly around for a bit and work to get a good way from the airport. Work on some maneuvers, or something that makes you lose your way a bit. Then, play “let me find my way back to the airport using ONLY the VOR.” Turn off the GPS and anything else that would help you navigate besides the VOR. It’s a great way to get familiar with it before getting bogged down in much of the details that VOR learning can throw at you. Have fun!
I still watch clayviation's videos 3.5 years after they were released. I wish you made more videos today on these topics because they are the best and are explained eloquently. I have been simming since 2020 and most of what I have Iearnt on VOR navigation, since the very beginning, was what clayviation shared in his great videos. Thank you, Sir!
Very kind words, Ghost21. I’m glad you’ve found them valuable. I wish I was producing more, too, but do know that I have more in the plan book and hope to get back to it soon.
@@clayviation I subscribed to your channel, you're simply the BEST! Have a wonderful 2022
Well done. As a sim pilot I always used VOR back in the SubLogic, Pre GPS days. Now GPS is my goto but it's a good fundamental to have VOR knowledge as a fall back.
BambinoGames thank you! I agree - GPS has a bunch of good stuff to offer. Thanks for watching!
I have been looking for a video tutorial like this for X-Plane and I have found it. Thanks you so much for explaining how to set it up and fly it the way it is supposed to be done. Kudos. I am already subscribed. Will come back for the radio lesson.
Thanks, Jimle22!
X-Plane 11's built-in VOR tutorial is worth its weight in dog poop, so _thank you!!_ :-D
You’re welcome, grovermatic!
Pretty nice effort. One very important distinction though is as it relates to the VOR navigation - there are NO radials TO. Radials by definition emanate from a VOR
. Now we may fly a bearing TO a VOR or fly a radial from a VOR but there are no 'TO radials'
Thank you for posting this!
Thanks for watching, ilts aao!
That's cleared that up then , Cheers Clay
VORs can be tough to grasp but are very satisfying to use. The sim is a great place to practice them! Thanks Cockney Imposter!
Thanks for the vid. Really appreciated.
Thanks, Marcel!
That was fantastic!
Thanks, Tom!
Very helpful, cheers!
Very helpful, . THX
Thanks Rene!
Nice job and thank you
Thanks Al!
@@clayviation What version of the Cessna 172 are you flying in this VOR demo?......and how did you pull up that sectional chart at 1:17 in the video and thank you
I tend to use the Airfoillabs Cessna 172, as I did here. The sectional overlay is a cut in from ForeFlight on my iPad, but you can use the M key to pull up an in game map or use a website like Skyvector.
@@clayviation yep ok got it thank you
@@clayviation hi Clay what do u like and why do u like the Airfoillabs Cessna?
Thank youu !! Perfect video !
Thanks, Captain Nick!
I wish you had briefly talked about how to enter the VOR's frequency into the radio, instead of saying "Ill talk about that in a different video".. I can't follow along with this video without being able to tune the radio :(
Nice video, where is that stimulator
Hello my name is Mike, a'm 73 and started flying with x-plna 11. Right now I have a recurring problem. My autopilot (aztec55) keeps shutting of on itself many times during a flight. Any ideas, thank you in advance.
I remain an x-plane fan
this was confusing, he said he was flying on the 100 radial . then turns about 40 feet the the right and says were on the 100 radial, like what?
How are you quickly zooming into your radio stack and other instruments? (X-Plane noob used to FSX).
Great question, NukeDaddy! Many of my movements are simply the arrow keys on the keyboard - up, down, left, right. Period and comma zoom in and out. For a tilt, use R and F for up and down, Q and E for left and right. If there is a certain view you use often, you can assign it to your num pad keys. Shift + 1-9 captures the view, and then just use the 1-9 you set on the num pad to go back to it. Super handy to assign some of those to buttons on a joystick or such.
clayviation I found the saved views for the keyboard and then the “memorize views” keys and used those to set it up. Thanks!
Great! Little finds like that, once you get used to them, really make flying a dream. Rock and roll!
clayviation perhaps an idea for a video? Hint hint.
Great idea - added to the inspiration board!
how come these videos are all so blurry?
That’s the first I’ve heard that they are blurry. You might check your RUclips stream quality and make sure it’s 1080.
Can you redo the audio but mute or lower the plane sounds please. Cant hear what your saying.
Is that an add on Cessna?
Yes this is the Airfoillabs Cessna 172.
