Thank you so much for this video! I'm an absolute beginner on X-Plane 12, and was so excited to have found your first video, just to fall into complete despair as soon as I realized that I had no "AP" button...
These tutorials are great! Keep up the good work. I was a general aviation pilot for 15 years with an instrument rating. But I had to give it up. The XPlane 11 is a wonderful but complex simulator. Your clear, concise uncluttered presentations are so helpful. Being a teacher myself I can say that your methods are terrific. You repeat and review which really helps. Once again Bravo and keep it up. Thanks, Mike B. Chicago
Dude your videos are awesome for a newbie. I was really struggling with understading the relationship between the AP, GPS and Gauges. It's all coming together now. It's amazing how much anxiety this sim can generate if you don't know what to "really" do. Still have some practicing to do and probably need to re-watch some videos a few times, but it's starting to click and become a lot more enjoyable. TY brother for taking the time.
I just got my copy of XPlane 11 and was so puzzled when I watched your old vid about the AP. Now everything makes sense again :) Thank you for your work and always good landings.
Brilliant, thanks Jason! Glad I found this updated version as I was pulling my hair out trying to follow your original one with the outdated AP. Keep on making X-Plane tutorials!
I have watched this video several times and I always learn from it. The pauses at the beginning where you give us time to make the joy stick buttons was very helpful so well done. And then when we continue with video , you help us check them out. And I really appreciate the entire video. Thanks.
I agree, Jason certainly has the best style to explain things and the little things, like you mentioned, pausing the video to explain stuff without going on about it like so many others on youtube.
I have just been getting back into flightsim and the new Cessna autopilot confused the heck out of me. Thank you so much for this video. I have gone back and watched some of your older vids because I liked this one so much.
A simply brilliant tutorial. You really understand your audience and are intent on educating rather than showing how smart you are. That is a rare skill that others could do well to learn. The recaps that you do are invaluable. I learnt so much and am now much more confident in navigating the aircraft. Thank you.
Had lots of problems mastering this as I am completely new to flying. For some reason I end up flying FROM on the beacon instead of TO when trying the ILF landing but I persevered, rewinding your excellent video many times and in the end I got it to work and made a perfect ILF descent and landing. Thank you so much for this.
I found this very clear; great job and thanks. I suggest make your cursor arrow a lot larger so we are not having to go back in the video several times to find what you are pointing to.
I am new to X-Plane and flight sim and this is, by far, the best tutorial on these features I have encountered. You give us the information then repeat it. You know your stuff. Thank you.
Well done Jason I really like your style thank you Captain Robert as in deep sea Merchant Navy retired no GPS and "things" in my day I am a comparative New-Be in here, I am enjoying the new challenges you are making the journey a little easier Thank you again .R.
One of the best tutorials I've watched for X-Plane 11! Very clear, patient and I liked that you showed several demonstrations. Eternally grateful, thanks.
Hello Jason, this is an excellent tutorial. It is not possible to explain the autopilot of the C172 in a better or more understandable way. Thank you very much K.
Clear. Concise. Pauses in all the right places. I hadn't used X-Plane for well over a year - was looking for on-off AP switches that weren't there, had no clue about S-tech. Someone else's video (no names!), was much less easy to follow.
Wow! Thanks! When I went to set a button on my RhinoStick I found one was already assigned, a button labeled (A) (autopilot?) toggles it on and off! And now I know how to pre-flight test the autopilot! Quite simple really! Thanks!
G'day Jason from Oz, well done, makes everything so clear thanks to your excellent presentation. Hope to see more of these videos. You have the knowledge and a perfect teaching style.
Brilliantly well explained. I’m fairly new to this and get in a massive confusing mess right now trying this. Careful studying and a good solid foundation is required which you provided!
Great video, You explain things very well. Many others don't fully explain how to do things or make it sound way more complicated than it really is keep it up.👍
Hi Jason, thanks a lot for your videos. As a beginner on X-Plane, that was all I needed to learn and understand well. It's a real pleasure to watch, you really take the time to explain things and explain it well, so congrats and thanks again :)
Thanks for making this. I used your first video and got completely confused when you got into the air and said: "now engage the autopilot." I was like, cool, where is the button for that? But you didn't show what you were doing or how. Total confusion and another video elsewhere finally got me sorted. This video is much better and more thorough. Again, thanks.
Totally interesting that the autopilot altitude is not connected to the visible "six pack" altimeter and uses its own sensors. Thanks for the incredible videos Jason.
I find your videos very informative and thorough. Thank you for your help with this one. I learned a lot and will always keep looking forward to more videos from you. Thank you.
You won't believe it! ... two day ago i was watching the x-plane cessna 172 auto pilot tutorial here on you tube and it didn't match my new purchase of xplane-11... SO, here two days later is a new, updated tutorial on the very thing I am learning... Thank You a Ton!. Very Well done.....
I bought Xplane 11 on Friday and did exactly the same as you Phil. Thanks @Jason for doing the update, I was struggling with approaches and switching off the autopilot.
Thank You Very Very Much. I have had no autopilot engagement of servos just the animation of where the plane should go. since the 11.3 update. I just had one plane that it all worked on, a modified Vision Jet G2, that I had go off the Xplane Form. But you knew the answer. I now have added the Auto pili button to my controller. It now works. Thank You once more. Namaste
This is a great video and it answers a lot of questions I had about the Cessna 172 and the auto pilot. Just a shame that at some points of the video the frame rate has gone very low resulting in almost still/frozen pictures rather than moving.
A very useful and good tutorial with the new change autopilot. I miss too the button from the autopilot and wonder why ? Now it works ... thanks for helping ... LGTom
Thank you Jason . As always professional informative and above all fun The videos are excellent for me as I have an iPad and I just get it to the Aircraft and follow Your RUclips tutorial brilliant thanks again 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks man, great video. I'm new to XP11 but once a student pilot. Yes, I'd like to see more videos like that and how to go from cold start-up to FMS, Take off and landing Zibo 737. Would really like that to learn and enjoy...! Oh, and how to get the Flight plan and input weight and balance and all that good stuff. Thank you very much and keep up the good work for your fans. Happy Flying.
Whenever I do the AP heading and altitude as shown, after about 10 minutes, the avionics screens go blank and the plane is out of control (AP shuts off). X-Plane support has not been able to resolve this. Anyone had this happen and had a cure?
Great tutorial. I never managed to make the approach before, but now I understood that my map was showing different things. I didn't see that ILS approach graphics on my screen, so now I can click on it and get the correct frequency. And I also didn't understand how to use the new AP, since most of the tutorials online are based on the old one. It would be great to see a tutorial how to move from the Cessna to something bigger. Which would be the next step and what do I need to think about? I started out with the Cessna and then quickly moved to the Zibo, but there are sooo many thing to think about, so I moved back to the Cessna to learn a little more before stepping up. So it would be great with a tutorial on how to step up to a bigger plane. And which one would that be?
think i cracked it.... when starting a flight press m to get the map take the cursor over the airport press it with the mouse then you get options to tune in your gps... tune it in and your plane will follow the line on the gps
Success! I simply had to manually tune the ILS freq into the NAV radio. Everything else worked as described. Thank you. I guess the feature to auto tune doesn't exist anymore? That looked like it could be very useful seeing how hard it is to tune the radios with a mouse.
I don’t know why, but my AutoPilot decided to randomly disengage while I was doing the ifr approach. I turned it back on but it would just shut right back down on me.
Hi Jason, Thanks for the update … in this video you perform an ILS approach. In your previous video you did an RNAV gps approach which I am having all sorts of problems with this new S-Tec 55 auto pilot. Wondering if you could do an update to the update!!
I got the CWS and the GPSS but the approach is not working as shown. I set the 172 up at CYOW on a 10 mile final, start, then pause, click on the map, but when I click on the airport I dont get the localizer line on the chart like you did. I do see the glide slope in the map window but when I click on it there is no freq for the ILS. I just get a pop up box with onions on what approach to choose. I choose Rwy 32 ILS but then there is no way to turn the freq like the way you did it in this video. Is this from an even more recent update? I just dont get it. Very discouraging. This is my life story with ALL apps. Just when Im getting used to it, BAM, here comes an update to screw me up.
Hello Jason, I start to use the new autopilot of Cessna 172 , and I have to say that I have some trouble wiht the plane in soil, due the autopilot was get on in the soil, and so i didn´t get to control the plane in earth. Which tips could you done to avoid this problem. Perhaps you can do a vídeo about this situation related to the autopilot in soil? Regards.
Finally a comprehensive C172 autopilot tutorial. Thank You.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm an absolute beginner on X-Plane 12, and was so excited to have found your first video, just to fall into complete despair as soon as I realized that I had no "AP" button...
As a newby, I found this video really useful and appreciated the logical and careful explanation
These tutorials are great! Keep up the good work. I was a general aviation pilot for 15 years with an instrument rating. But I had to give it up.

Great job. Super helpful. Solid updates.

I am an inactive pilot. I had a 172 many years ago but avionics have changed so much. This was very helpful to get me started with x-plane. Thank you.
Awesome stuff. I had been quite confused about some of this, as a new x-pilot. This was very, very helpful.
I have just been getting back into flightsim and the new Cessna autopilot confused the heck out of me. Thank you so much for this video. I have gone back and watched some of your older vids because I liked this one so much.

This video is very underrated. I'm beginner and I know needed to hear every word of this video to start with X-plane.
Had lots of problems mastering this as I am completely new to flying. By far the best tutorial for this particular AP. Everything you need to know as a beginner. Inc GPS and ILS, and explained perfectly. Good job Jason.
Hello Jason,
this is an excellent tutorial. It is not possible to explain the autopilot of the C172 in a better or more understandable way.
Thank you very much
K.
Thank you for that update. It definitely cleared up some confusion from your earlier version.
Thank you! Great explanation about GPS NAV and ALT GS features those I missed before.
Thank you thank you! I have switched from FSX to XP11, and I am relearning! I was ready to give it up, but found this! XP11 is SOOOO much better!
Clear. Concise. Pauses in all the right places. I hadn't used X-Plane for well over a year - was looking for on-off AP switches that weren't there, had no clue about S-tech. Someone else's video (no names!), was much less easy to follow.

Wonderfully explained. Never watched a video with so much information. Great work!
Thanks Jason for the S-Tech 55 instructions I followed everything and it' s got me into using the AP more efficiently.
Brilliantly well explained. I’m fairly new to this and get in a massive confusing mess right now trying this. Careful studying and a good solid foundation is required which you provided!
Great video, You explain things very well. Many others don't fully explain how to do things or make it sound way more complicated than it really is keep it up.👍
This was much easier to follow than the manuals. Thanks.
Im a newbie been finding things frustrating up to now GREAT tutorial much clearer now thanks to you thanks so much
excellent video, answered my questions about the new Auto pilot in the 172.....
Your videos are great so very glad I found your channel. Thanks again

Yes, the first video was a few years old.
Totally interesting that the autopilot altitude is not connected to the visible "six pack" altimeter and uses its own sensors. Thanks for the incredible videos Jason.
Thanks Jason for the update! Greatly appreciated.
Well done, Sir! Thank you, now I understand, what the autopilot didn’t do for me!
Great video, answers all my questions! Just the frame rate is a little bit low.
Great video, I am new to x-plane 11, and I am learning to navigate, but still have many questions.
A great video explaining in terms a noob like me can understand. Thank you very much.
Thank you for the update! Very much needed.
Congratulations for the excellent video, Captain.
Super clear advice and guidance. Thank you.
I find your videos very informative and thorough. Thank you for your help with this one. I learned a lot and will always keep looking forward to more videos from you. Thank you.

Excellent, this video is giving some tips too still in luv to fly on xplane. many thanks
Awesome stuff, thank you very much. Had too many struggles with this new AP lol. This video cleared up a lot of questions
Yes mon I love your videos ,am new to X plane 11 and your videos are really helping Rastaman. I give thanks for the knowledge . Rastafari .
Thank you so much, just what I was looking for and so much information in one video!! Works with x plane 12 as well
🙂
Thank you Jason. Exactly what I was looking for and very well explained. Subscribed.
Finally, a decent tutorial. Jason, thank you!
This is a great video and it answers a lot of questions I had about the Cessna 172 and the auto pilot. Just a shame that at some points of the video the frame rate has gone very low resulting in almost still/frozen pictures rather than moving.
Excellent video so easy to understand keep them coming
Finally a clear and precise tutorial which is understandable!
Great video. A must see for demystifying the 172 autopilot.
Ha! You answered my question in the first minute (auto/disengaging the autopilot). I literally was looking for this yesterday. TY good sir. :-)
A very useful and good tutorial with the new change autopilot. I miss too the button from the autopilot and wonder why ? Now it works ... thanks for helping ... LGTom
Thank you Jason . As always professional informative and above all fun
The videos are excellent for me as I have an iPad and I just get it to the Aircraft and follow Your RUclips tutorial brilliant thanks again 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very well done and very timely. Thanks.

Lots of notes taken. Thanx for the update!

Excellent video, thanks Jason.
You did a great job!!! I a newbie at flying so the really help me.
Excellent video, it helped me a lot. Thanks very much!!. It is true that the frame rate is a little low. Thanks!!
Simply great !! Thanks a million !!
Very nicely done. Enjoyed and learned some nuances!!
Great tutorial. I never managed to make the approach before, but now I understood that my map was showing different things. when ever I put NAV mode on with GPSS it goes the opposite way. What do I do?
i have the same problem...

Thank you so much! Time for a few videos in the zibo mod 737 now!
Great help, will be using tomorrow
I’m not sure if it always said ready or not but the RDY is still there.
Great video, I was looking for automatic landings. Your computer was burning though XD
Hello and thank you for that video. GPS steering does not seem to be working when using the 430 unit instead of the 530 unit, do you know why that is?
This video is fantastic! Thank you for your help. I am grateful.
Absolutely fantastic tutorial, please do commercial planes!
Welldone beautifull introduction 🥰♥️👍👍👍
Whats up with the frame rate? Its very low and makes it difficult to follow the content of the video.
I agree. Like 10 fps.
Hi Jason, Thanks for the update … in this video you perform an ILS approach.
In your previous video you did an RNAV gps approach which I am having all sorts of problems with this new S-Tec 55 auto pilot.
Wondering if you could do an update to the update!!
Great Video! 👍
You have a gift to teach.
I got the CWS and the GPSS but the approach is not working as shown. Why do my autopilot following GPS always disengage halfway through?
Do you have to set the heading bug to runway heading for the nav 1 ips to get you on cente?
Hello Jason, I start to use the new autopilot of Cessna 172 , and I have to say that I have some trouble wiht the plane in soil, due the autopilot was get on in the soil, and so i didn´t get to control the plane in earth. One thing to point out, when you took off your fuel flow was not in the green, u needed to lean the mixture
I just have a blue box for the VOR on the 530. How do you get the frequency entered?
Could anyone help me: I have the CH Eclipse, but I dont get it recognized by XPlane 11? Any idea how to fix it? Thansk
Thank you. It helped me a lot.
Excellent instruction.
looks like the gps instruments were added to C172 about 15-20 years ago.
What they used before GPS? Just the nav mode? CDI had only nav mode?
