One of the few of the tough guy actors that served in WW2. He as a Arial gunner in a B-29 superfortress in 1945. They truly were heroes those who laid their lives down in the pacific and in Europe that helped contributed our way of life by their sweat, blood, fighting, service. against adversity, against evil forces to defend our liberty and freedom, and then some used those skills in acting. We will never see that caliber of character again used in art of acting again, especially the small list of tough guy actors out of World War 2. We grew up enjoying their movies , and cheered when they beat up the bullies, or removed evil from the earth.. May they all rest in peace. And we are grateful for those from 1776 concurrently who serve to continue to defend freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL.

I met Bronson along with Michael Winner, the director, in summer of '71 in Almeria Spain where this film was shot. I was hired by a film journalist to take photos of the interview as well as the scene they were shooting when Chato, the half breed encountered a band of full blooded indians as he was being pursued by a posse. The desert mountain landscape in southern Spain much resembles the Arizona countryside.
In between shooting the director and star sat under a large parasol out of the sweltering July heat, answering questions posed by the journalist whose name I only remember as Nick. At one point Bronson happened to notice me, a rather shy 22 year old with a cheap Agfamatic, asked me my name, then said Eliot you look hot, would you like a cup of tea? I graciously accepted, all the while stunned by the fact he was addressing me, what's more offered me refreshments which a go-fer duly brought.
The photos were to accompany an article in a Cincinnati newspaper though I never saw it. The b/w negs were returned to me as promised. True story.

Chato’s Land had arguably the best cast of any western movie ever made. Charles Bronson, Jack Palance, Simon, Oakland, Richard Basehart, James Whitmore, Victor French, Richard Jordan, and Ralph Waite. All at the peak of their careers.

The Death Wish series were the best. He took the Giggler out with the .475 Wembley Magnum. The cops thought he was shot with an elephant gun.
