I was in Nanning last year for two months and I loved it. I agree with you when you said home is where the heart is and mine is definitely in Nanning, China. I honestly did not want to leave and I have missed it every day since I left. I hope I am able to return soon. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever lived and I was very comfortable there. I have a 7 year old son and I was never afraid of walking around the city or traveling through the country with him. I really loved the fruit and vegetable markets there. I am vegan and there was plenty of options for me. I miss the vegetarian restaurants there also. I enjoy your videos. It’s like watching videos from my home.
Nice video. Totally agree. One thing I really like is you do not need a car here. Didi and public transportations are SUPER SUPER convenient. You don't have to have a car that comes with its expenses. It is awesome!
China: no property taxes , more than 70% people no need to pay income taxes , no tips , a lot of super cheap street foods , you don’t have to pay the expensive car cost like in the USA, and wonderful service once your got accident when you drive , no “surprise “ extra money, etc . Too much convenient things compared with the western world. The only negative side is the average income is lower than the western world but the price of life also lower even in bigger cities
There is no property tax in China because of China's state-owned enterprises. Most of the Chinese government's fiscal expenditures are paid by state-owned enterprises, so taxation is not the main source of finance for the Chinese government.
So the cost of living is lower. That means if you make a little more than average you would have a better living standard than the people in the west. Here in the USA you have to make a LOT MORE than average to live a good life. I would like to retire in China too. But I have my family and friends here.

I don' t believe Residence Visas are available for foreigners over a certain age. It is my understanding that China does not have any program for foreign retirees. I suspect your circumstance is unique as you have a wife who is a Chinese National. China is not unusual for having this policy as most countries don't want take take care of seniors from a different country. Please discuss the Visa programs for foreigners over age 60 in China. Maybe you have new information. I don't think Canada wants us "Yanks" either.

Totally agree, China and other SE Asian countries are super places for retirees. I've lived and worked all over the world from Europe to Australia, Middle East to SE Asia. Now comfortably retired as an Australian national, I've chosen to live long-term in SE Asia. My (unnamed) country of choice is one where English-speaking people can comfortably get by. It issues low-cost 10-year (renewable) retirement visas, allows me to own landed property, has low crime, low cost of living, no resentment of foreigners, 1st class health facilities and superb varieties of food. I would love to spend some time in China if not for my inability to speak Mandarin and absence of a long-term retiree visa program.
The one issue relative to wanting to live in China for retirement is the Visa. Perhaps you can address this on a future video. For most people, to retire in China is not feasible, due to the visa requirements. Food for thought.
My understanding is there is 10-year visa for many countries that have an agreement with Chinese gov't, once you get that visa you can enter China as many times as you wish, you can stay in China up to 6 months after each entry, that's why within every 6 months Gweilo 60 visit another country, then, back to China for another 6 months stay, so, you must visit another country within every 6 months, Japan, Korea, Russia, Thailand, India.... keep you busy. In addition, Gweilo 60 mentioned before, you can also apply for 2 years stay permit so that you don't have to visit another country in 6 months, and you can renew your permit. Expats often say for a serious medical issue they can jump on a plane and go some other place. When you get to the airport you might be surprised they won't let you onto the plane if you have visible medical issues. They will require you to be cleared by a doctor who may not clear you because flying can cause serious problems for some conditions. Denied also if the doctor thinks you could have a crisis during the flight so a short flight is less risky than a 20 hour trip half way around the world.

China have long-term, multiple entry visa (1-10 years), you can stay up to 6 months (depend on what country you’re from). If you want to stay longer without getting in and out, you can find a part-time job there.
If you're 60 or older, you can't get a Z (work) visa and the ten-year, multiple entry visa that I have as a US citizen is only for four months at a time.
America is changing not for the better. The U.S. does have Social security and medical benefits but keep in mind everything is so expensive like rent, medicine, insurance, cost of living, etc. And, not to mention about the crime. Take the NYC subway for example, you have to watch your back constantly and I don't think you have to do that in the subway like China, Hong Kong or Japan.
I can see myself live in China as a tourist free mind I love my Chinese food, get up in the morning get breakfast go online watching RUclips here and there, after all the hard work I wanted to be able kick back and relax. I'm not a Chinese citizen can I buy a house in china?
Dragonfly, I don’t think you can own a house as a foreigner in China. Why buy and get stuck in one place? Rent and see if you like it. If not you simply move in the same city or find another place somewhere else. I do the same with cars. I lease my car for 3 years. If I want a different car I just turn it in and get a new one. If I like it, I buy it and keep it until I find a better one.

Marxist economy/society is better suited for retirees. In Carl Marx's writing, socialism was build on top of a mature capitalistic society where productivity has highly evolved, and ownership has highly concentrated. In his later years, he had doubts that Lenin could bypass the capitalism stage in a soviet Russia with large undeveloped rural population, and still succeed with communism. I think history answered that question. China knows that socialism is all about the distribution of wealth to the society ie managing the demand in Keynesian economics. Therefore, China will encourage enough capitalism to generate the necessary weath to provide the supply. The State-Owned-Enterprises (SOE) are a hybrid of the two - a necessary buffer. When supplies go down like now, SOE will splinter off into more productive private enterprises. As supplies go into excess like the last few year, SOE will help cushion the economic slowdown by absorbing unemployment and inflation. This is the reason why China didn't experienced a harsh recession post 2008 and won't after covid-19. That is the strength and resilience of Xi's Marxist economy model (Xionmics) and the essential role that SOE plays. As a retiree who has done his part in accumulating wealth for the society, China's social services and higher quality of life for the average seniors are particularly attractive. Canada, are you listening?
Voting😂... I'm 54, been voting in South Africa since 18yrs ild, never once went my way... What's the big deal about voting... I enjoy China and will stay here as long as possible.
Well, I don't know about Canada. But in China, seniors of your age are very many, and many live close to each other in a community. So you don't get bored or lonely as you always have other seniors to hang out with, play chess, pokers, recreational activities in the parks. I bet you saw seniors do many activities in parks. And in case medical emergency, access to medical facilities is efficient.

Wish you enjoy the life in China. Hopefully the Chinese government will be more flexible on foreign immigration policies as now their immigration policy’s threshold is relatively high.
It's raining dog and cat food for seniors in the west that are on a fixed income. They pay high tax for years, sell all their possessions to survive and hope someone visits them once in a while at a covid infested retirement home. No thanks, I'd stay in any Asian country first.
Work in China and make good money then retire in south east Asia. China is a great place to spend time but Thailand as a place to retire absolutely bests China in every conceivable way. As a Chinese, I can say the political system in China definitely far from good and has lots of issues to fix. But just to see people's life in China, the life quality, medical system, insurance for everyone including poor people, the level of safety(you can go out for BBQ and beer after 22:00 pm), friendly culture, diversity level of foods, which are the facts that can reflect what the gov did for its people. that's enough for normal people like me

Danny W, I am Chinese American and my strong attachment to family and friends here in the USA is making it hard to retire in China. However, I do visit often but this nasty virus is keeping me away.
I think the most important thing is safety and affordable ,just tell me there has that
Gweilo, U r my envy to retire to a life u truely enjoy. So they say live life to d fullest without regret. Good on u bro. Nx time u come to Malaysia, I buy u a dozen of good beer. Cheers
Glad to know that you're enjoying your life after retirement. I hope I'd enjoy mine the way you do one day.
China freedom is better than the west i,m from the uk and worked around the world all my life and 20 years ago found my wife when I was working in China. We have a house in China and in the uk. At present we are working and living in Abu Dhabi UAE which is very expensive. When we finish work we plan on moving back to China.
KEEP up the great work Gweilo!
another good video Gweilo.. you never disappoint. Straight talker
They're now setting up some advanced top hospitals on Hainan Island so you may not even have to fly all that way back to Canada for medical treatments.
TCM may be a better option than wasting money on western medicine.
Raining Cats and Dogs > It is supposed to be an English Corruption of the Norman French for "Raining like a Waterfall" - "Cascade d'eau" In other words the servants mocking the masters.
Actually, you can vote, vote for your local administrators, and deputy to the NPC. However people usually are not aware of the procedure, and don't bother, as there is no campaign.
Support you, keep up the great work!!
My home is Shenyang. Liaoning Province, China
China have long-term, multiple entry visa (1-10 years), you can stay up to 6 months (depend on what country you’re from). If you want to stay longer without getting in and out, you can find a part-time job there.
If you're 60 or older, you can't get a Z (work) visa and the ten-year, multiple entry visa that I have as a US citizen is only for four months at a time.
when you need a reason to hate something, you always can find it. just try harder.

Definitely the living cost is cheaper than USA .
If the government is doing good for the people why want to vote
Keep doing what you like ,you make a good career move,I am jealous
America is changing not for the better. The U.S. does have Social security and medical benefits but keep in mind everything is so expensive like rent, medicine, insurance, cost of living, etc. And, not to mention about the crime. Take the NYC subway for example, you have to watch your back constantly and I don't think you have to do that in the subway like China, Hong Kong or Japan.
The best government is that the citizen there does not even know there is a government exist and live happily.
No politics. Love it!!😀
I can see myself live in China as a tourist free mind I love my Chinese food, get up in the morning get breakfast go online watching RUclips here and there, after all the hard work I wanted to be able kick back and relax.
If I like it, I buy it and keep it until I find a better one.
yes foreigners can own a home in China. W do and we are both Canadians
You said it all. Beers are on me Gweilo60 come November 2022 🍻
You have no idea how much beer I can actually drink. Sure you can afford that statement?
@@Gweilo60 I've started saving already lol
I used to live IN 瑞士花园 about 2 years at 20 years ago. right now i move to NY USA.
How do you find NY compared to where you used to live in China? Pros and Cons?
Yes I ll go back to live in China and back forth to Europe, as I hv family here, I dot want to leave them, but I know I ll enjoy long holidays in China for a month every 2 or 3 months, such exchanging life is very exciting.
I suppose nobody from US of A can no longer retire anytime soon in China. Most don't even have a passport. And Texas? Not even a consular service...
Love what you said in this video! We are thinking about BeiHai, what do you think?
I plan to retire in china. My wife is a Chinese citizen. One thing it is tough is there is a limit on how much you can bring into China.
Your atm card works fine in china.
Like you I have family there in Guangzhou and Taishan. I love the culture, history and people there. The food is absolutely amazing. Very affordable. My wife is Chinese and our daughter can speak more Chinese then I. I am looking and planning in the next 15 years.
@@Gweilo60 everything in guangzhou and Taishan is on WeChat pay. I tried using my atm card from USA in February 2024 when visiting family. They said no only WeChat pay. Every major shopping mall to small businesses they only take WeChat pay. I hope things can change. Love your short stories about China. It is an amazing country.
Living a retired life in China, inexpensive, no politics, no tax, good food, happy people, no tension, universal health care.
And in case medical emergency, access to medical facilities is efficient.
a big irritant for me would be scooters on the pavement going against the traffic flow.
I love China, after spending a little time there it made the USA seems old, run down & expensive. Life would be great if I could speak Mandarin
Good morning Kirk, congratulation to you and your wife/Wei Fong for getting the resident permit.
You should start a Immigration consultant firm for foreigners.
My guess is after the travel restriction is over, there will be many business in this area. Have a nice weekend. PS: I will be one of your clients.
Lol,I lived in Switzerland Garden for 5 years and now in guangzhou, so glad to see you passing the gate.
i wish i could live in China,
a very peaceful wonderful beautiful nice country .
Maybe i can start a business there and employ some Chinese workers,
and contribute to China,
and stay there happily.
Hope for the best
What do you think about retiring in Hainan?
you have amazing retired life in China.
Street noise can be adjusted a bite lower, please
I am interested in exploring China.
Electrotherapy for muscles? This is something new that I learn today.
Transincontanious neural simulator
@@Gweilo60 Thanks.
Medical condition is supposed one of the consideration whilst considering retire in China.
You are not old. You are healthy and strong. Keep drinking a little baijiu and beer. You can live 5 minuets to forever.
A Canadian, eh? Smart man to leave the high cost of Canada for more affordable China on your CPP. I have already decided to leave Quebec for China with only my QPP when I finally retired in 10 years because of cost. I think I can get by with $1200 monthly in China. I remain, Ronald Cooney.
The stability of Chinese society, of course.
But does no one here see the riders driving on the sidewalk?
Or you just don't care such unvalued things.
Its like the wild west if ebikes
That is right the people are nice no doubt about it 。Chinese people only mind their own business
Hi brother, we still can't get there. stuck here in the USA until we don't know when.
lol love ur youtube name gweilo! lol. I'm Chinese n planning to visit china soon. Yunnan is on the list. where in yunnan are you at?
LOL like my country, I vote every president election but I always got the same Sh”t of each president. Nothing much change.
it is possible that people that used to live in the city loves living in the rural area, vice versa.
Great oerspective
Thank you
Gweilo, the background noise is really high. If you can use a headphone, I think the effect will be much better.
I think I can retire in China without language and food taste problem. But I need to stay with my boy & girl.
It's not property tax, it's rental fee. If you don‘’t pay gov rent, they keep you out.
How to retire in China? They don't offer a retirement visa. Probably have to marry someone there?
Work in China and make good money then retire in south east Asia. China is a great place to spend time but Thailand as a place to retire absolutely bests China in every conceivable way. Food, weather, cost of living, openness, politics, way of life, culture. Impossible for China to complete but if does offer far better earning opportunities. Make your money in China, retire in Thailand.
Enjoy retire life in China.I am struggling now after 5 more year working in Vancouver to be retire life.
What could be better than living in orwell's 1984?
As a Chinese, I can say the political system in China definitely far from good and has lots of issues to fix. But just to see people's life in China, the life quality, medical system, insurance for everyone including poor people, the level of safety(you can go out for BBQ and beer after 22:00 pm), friendly culture, diversity level of foods, which are the facts that can reflect what the gov did for its people. that's enough for normal people like me
Kirk is married to a Chinese national that's why he can stay in China on a spouse support visa. Many of my Singaporean friends did just that...marrying a Chinese woman and stay in China
Weifang is a Canadian citizen
nice video for understanding china real, thank you !
China is an ideal place to live, so there are always so many people there
Having lived in China for over 4 years, I fully understand and appreciate how nice China, and Chinese people are.
Wish all your videos were like this , like they used to be.
