I'm sorry to hear this. I am a non catholic Christian, and anyone claiming to be one would completely condemn such hateful behavior. I know there are plenty of bad examples of course, still hard to watch.
And unfortunately it was incredibly worse, and this is fictional in that it doesn't come close to the inhumane treatment of natives by the Catholic Church and the government, and what is worse is no redemption or justice came up, no empowerment from the revenge story in the series, which is why art and story telling like this is necessary, it's the only redemption happening, in the imagination
Jacob (Harrison Ford) is James (Tim McGraw)’s brother. James dies is 1893 during the S4 Yellowstone flashback Margaret (Faith Hill) dies is a snow storm a year later. Jacob raises James’ sons, John and Spencer. John has his son Jack (the one getting married) Spencer was in WW1 ( youngest son of James, Brother of John and uncle of Jack)
To be honest, it was a mistake to kill off James and Margaret off-screen and replace them. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren could have played the roles, and as much as I like Jacob and Cara, it was a little jarring that we were being introduced to new characters in the first episode. It would have been better if James and Margaret were brought back as elderly adults, so that we had a connection to 1883 with characters we were already familiar with.
The boarding school scenes are only 1 percent of what happened. They are still finding mass graves in Christian boarding schools all the way from Arizona to Canada...this just scratches the surface of what happened.
The “Bozeman” scenes were filmed here in Butte, Montana. The Dutton ranch house was built just out of town a few miles by the mountains but because of the snow I havnt gone out to get a look at it yet.
Harrison Ford is Jacob, the brother of James in 1883. Also, did you recognise who played the sheriff in the first episode? The actor was Robert Patrick, he played the T1000 in Terminator 2.
Not really went you factor in that tv shows love to make trauma worse for shock value on tv every single day, even with real life stories. Like if you’re not very well versed on what happened you’d never know beyond what the media covers which is very little except all the mass graves they found recently which still doesn’t say enough
Looking forward to 1923 with ya .. .. Taylor Sheridan said that he needs 3x the people to make 1923, than Yellowstone/1883 and 1883 was the most expensive TV series ever made .. .. So, just imagine the cost of 1923?!
The boarding school scenes where really difficult to watch especially knowing that sort of thing happened. I’m assuming that girl is Monica’s great grandma or maybe great great.
I was half tempted not to watch this show because of how 1883 ended. I was looking forward to another season of it and Elsa of course. She was a great character. Her narrating this show feels oddly comforting. Almost like she isnt really gone. Which in turn makes the fact that she is sting a little more. I didnt know the church did that to the indians. First saw it in "Anne with an E". Thats a good show too.
My only real issue with this show was the addition of Jacob Dutton as the older brother of James Dutton. It always feels a little jarring that Sheridan decided to replace James with a brother who was never mentioned in 1883 by anyone. I love Harrison Ford's portrayal of Jacob, and I do like Jacob as a character, but it was a mistake to kill off both James and Margaret (off-screen) when Ford and Mirren could have played those roles just fine and thus have a connection to 1883 by being with two characters we would recognize.
I will never buy the self-righteousness and fake indignation of people described in the range war in this show. The Duttons stole the land from the Indians and now they are complaining about somebody else trying to steel it from them; it's a bunch of thieves trying to steel from another bunch of thieves ... what goes around comes around.
I partially agree, remember this is historical fiction, the Duttons aren't real but they do represent the life of many European settlers and their descendants. Which is each participate case was different from each other, and humans are capable of good and evil, sometimes by the same people. And predators can also be victims and many victims also turn into predators. One big caveat is that many settlers themselves had no direct involvement in the land dispossession of the indigenous people, most of this was done previously by the invading armies although some, many other settlers did. It depends.
The only problem I have is catholic sections, which seems way extreme. I'm sure there are bad things that really happened, but this is beyond the pale. The rest is better than 1883, and Yellowstone, which I stopped watching, since I just don't like any of the characters. Maybe I'll get back into it after 1923.
It’s almost like that’s what really happened to innocent children at the hands of these so-called people of God. It’s supposed to make you uncomfortable. That’s the whole point.
You're totally wrong. Need to read the history of Catholic boarding schools. In Canada it was recently uncovered a mass grave of native children which validated numerous accounts of natives through decades who were not believed, about being rpd as children by priests and abused by nuns in the most heinous ways
😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 Yes the stuff at the school actually happened to my great-grandmother, which is why when she met my great-grandfather She dipped out first chance she got
The boarding school scenes were definitely accurate. They tried to get all of the “indian” out of them by any means necessary.
Unfortunately it was accurate, but what they depicted is only a small glimpse, reality was worse.
I'm sorry to hear this. I am a non catholic Christian, and anyone claiming to be one would completely condemn such hateful behavior. I know there are plenty of bad examples of course, still hard to watch.
All children were required to conform so independence was beaten out of them
Yes, definitely accurate. Look what they're discovering right now in Canada! Horrific.

That’s cool there speaking my language “Apsaalooke”
The Indian board schools in this series are VERY accurate.
awesome series

The brother of James you mean
@@theunknownuser9609 Yes sorry. All their names begin with J, very confusing!
Oh the lines out of Helen murrin and Harrison Ford are indearing and so so funny
It’s Sad that you had to question the realism with the boarding school scene…

$30 million an episode apparently!
Compared to 1883, THIS SHOW IS MORE BRUTAL!
The boarding school scenes where really difficult to watch especially knowing that sort of thing happened. I’m assuming that girl is Monica’s great grandma or maybe great great.
I heard she's Thomas Rainwater's grandmother? Not sure if that's canon or not.

Why didn't you start with 1883? It's so good.
The first thing she talked about was that she watched 1883 before they started this channel and it's in the video description
@@texaswhitley Oh ok, thanks.
Love your commentary at the end about feminism

The residential schools for natives were worse in reality
