  • Going over some things to consider when choosing a cartridge for coyotes hunting.
There are plenty of different options available and many, in not all, will work. You just need to employ them properly.
This is just what has worked for me and my approach to determining if a cartridge or loading works well enough to make it into my use scenario. If you have 1 gun, and you don’t reload, you can still look at factory options and numbers to make a decision. If you hand load, then take a bullet and speed number to see if that fits your needs. Finally, if you’re in the market for a new rifle, find what features you want and how you will employ it, then find the cartridge that fits into that requirement.

Subd! Well thought out & presented! I've only been night hunting for about 3 yrs & you nailed all the important factors i had to learn the hard way- lol. I've been using the wildcat, 277 wolverine with 90gr tnt at 2700fps from a 16" to great effect. Point blank zero & knowing your distance limits were spot on! Happy hunting & keep up the good work neighbor! - RED.

Thanks! I believe in a principles based approach to things. It’s important to understand what works for your situations. Make your gear enable you.

With the 6 arc have you tried 58 gr Vmax? I’ve found them to be hammers and laser beams.
Ran 223 53-60 gr Vmax didn’t have many runners.
    I prefer high shoulder shots.
    Great info great video

You wanna anchor a dog? Go get a 7 PRC. Probably the most effective coyote cartridge ever invented. Mine was even pre-skinned when I went to recover him

@@Lexidezi225I was making a joke about using an elk cartridge on coyotes. Stop being a troll and trying to start a fight. Go take a nap boomer

223 53 GR VMAX - no fur damage.

I haven’t tried the 53s. Only the 52gr. I’m not too worried about pelt damage where I am, the coyotes don’t bring much. I use a DRT approach.

Find any data for 16” AR? 223

I have a lot of data for a 16” AR. I’ve used a lot of 60gr vmax. The results were very good but I would get more runners than I liked for night hunting.
