  • Today John Wayne’s youngest daughter Marisa Wayne takes us to the 10,000 square foot JOHN WAYNE: AN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE exhibit in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, Texas. Inside the exhibit, Marisa recalls her fondest memories of her famous father John Wayne. She shares stories of her time spent on the Wayne family’s 26 Bar Ranch in Arizona and their adventures on Duke’s converted WWII Navy minesweeper, the Wild Goose. She also reminisces about their car rides in John Wayne’s custom Grand Safari Station Wagon in Newport Beach, California, and recounts her experience attending the Oscars with her father. Plus, you will never believe what happened while she was on location in Oregon for Duke’s film Rooster Cogburn (1975)!
“Every opportunity he had, he made somebody feel special. He really had that personal touch, and it has transcended generations and gone well beyond the movie screen. It wasn’t an act-he really was a genuine, great guy.” -Marisa Wayne

I love John Wayne!! I’m 74 and he’s been my favorite my whole life.
God made a humble loving smart man for us to watch him preform in the movies.
I can’t say enough good things about him. God bless John in heaven and all of his family living or passed.

The Duke set the Standard for young men growing up when I was young. Got too meet him once in Louisville, KY when he was The Grand Marshal of the Pegasus Parade. Was just a little boy and he was massive! Larger than Life kind of falls short. Still think he deserved an Oscar for the Shootist. Great Movie and played like no one else possibly could. An Absolute American Patriot and Man's Man,... there is no greater image of an American Legend than John Wayne.

I grew up watching your Dad acting in movies and my family can tell you that I have numerous lines recited by heart as the movies play. We had all daughters so our first grandchild was a boy so his nickname is "Budger" played by Clay O'Brian in Cahill, U.S. Marshall. Our daughter's family visited us for Christmas one year and fortunately his movie was playing so after Budger's bath we were in pajamas and the Duke saw his young son and said: "Hello Budger" and my grandson looked right up at me. My entire family saw it. Your Dad is what America is about. You were very fortunate to be a part of his life.

Great memories and stories. I was at the museum about a year and half ago, time to go again. I was lucky enough to be there on a day when almost no one else was, so I could just wander around without having to fight crowds, loved it.

Marissa, I'm very sorry I didn't get to meet you and your brothers at the museum last week, and sorry for the loss of your friend. But enjoyed your Dad's museum. Hope to meet you in Ridgeway Colorado in September.
