My father was born in 1938. At the age of 1, his dad died, and his mother raised 3 boys by herself. I think "The Duke" was a father figure to him.
It was a given that we watched any John Wayne movie at the drive-in or theater, let alone whenever one came on TV.
Thanks for being such a good son and family man and sharing your memories.

Growing up in the 60's , 70's your fathers movies will forever be a part of my life . Just watched Hondo , The Searchers and Rio-Bravo yesterday on Grit.
A new generation is being introduced to the Duke here on youtube by reactors , the other day i watched a young Scottish girl react to The Quiet Man , she loved it !

I grew up then also and have an 8 year old niece that is totally enamored with The Duke. When I ocassionally watch her a John Wayne movie is almost a requirement.
