I really like the idea of Jainism. If there is any religion that I actually like and think that would be positive for people in general it is hands down Jainism. (btw I'm not a Jain myself, I'm just sharing my view on it)

I did wonder why is it that women have to cover up and men don't, but considering that all religions have some hypocrisy I assume this is the one for jainism. I just found some of their concepts interesting but I guess it is not perfect as an ideology..

When you talk about Jainism, you should definitly mention not only AHIMSA (nonviolence) but the other principle too, wich is ANEKANTAVAD. (no absolute truth)
Both of those combined really make Jainism so interesting.
And no, i am not a Jain, i am an atheist.
But should someone point a gun at me, and i would be forced to choose a religion, i guess it would be Jainism. *May that day never come*

Jains are really amazing.
I wasn't born a Jain or a Vegan, but Jainism has turned me Vegan; and made me to atleast sometimes consider the consequences of my actions.
Btw I am not a Jain for the similar reasons being referred in this video.

Jainism is vegetarian not vegan. Jains consume milk and other animal product.
Being a Jain I totally approve what Hemant told and we worship those 24 Tīrthaṅkaras not as a creator or a destroyer, but a perfected being and also no matter if the concept of karma and reincarnation is real or fake but it actually is forcing people to be good and stay away from hurting anyone and keep doing good deeds so its for the betterment of world. :)
+Harsh jain I'm just now finding out about Jainism. Here's the part about that, that's troubling me. If the core philosophy of being a Jain is to be non-violent, why not just leave it at that? Why does the fear of Karma being on the brain before doing something good or looking away towards a possible violent act the first mental thought? Why not do good and not be violent simply because those are the key elements of being non-violent? Why not that belief be "I am a non-violent person NOT because I believe in Karma, but because I ACTUALLY don't want to be violent." Seems more promising that way.

And since so many people view things differently, it's only natural every solid structure comes crashing down with new ideas that contradict the whole bloody thing.
@chris in Jainism every principle mentioned is as it is. They would tell what bad karma is and what is their effect but while we are living and breathing it is killing thousands of beings (insects ...) But that doesn't mean we should stop living.
The idea is to state every principle as it is and not for the fear. The gurus tell that even doing regular chores of life is harming beings, then should that mean we should kill ourselves and follow ultimate non violence and stop living ?
No , we all know the importance of living but does that mean we are not adding it to our bad karma?
No , our bad karma is increasing.
But we must do what is necessary and this you must decide what is necessary and what is not.
So Jainism mentions it's believe as it is, there are no workarounds if you do something you are responsible for it.

Jainism's ultimate purpose is to be free from cycle of birth n death ( achieve moksha) so i assume u meant why not just do this not because karma but becoz u want nonviolence
Thing is they are interconnected
Assume if u are put on chess board(life)
And ur aim is to cross to other side of board(moksha) but black pieces are violence+everyother thing that doesnt let u reach it and push u back while white peices are way to go
Now u can reach otherside (moksha) 2ways
1)only seeing white pieces(nonviolence/good etc)100% as if black pieces never existed ,assuming ur good kinda superhuman who isnt socialized and want to do good --- i hope uasked why not think this
2)2nd way is while followimg white path ,keep watching black pieces just so not to step on it (managing karma if u will) but now as we live amomg humans not superhumans ,100%pure way cant be followed thusby keep countimg karma u make sure u step on more white pieces than black in a way that slowly move u forward towards moksha ( assuming u steped 5 whites and miss stepped 1 balck and got pushed back 2 tiles for it still doing more whites push u forward)
Both ways achieve u moksha but being human in this world u will step on black tiles evenctually thus by managing karma umake sure u are n positive+
Thats why they talk and think about karma ,not because they dont want to be good but while doing so they can make up for what bad they did.

I am Jain too and truly believe the teachings feels very positive and nice to follow things which my parents did somehow also feel it's all right way to live like eating before sunset and getting up early and eating after sunrise it's healthy as far as not eating certain vegetable I am not very convinced and eat all vegetarian food also I like to go to the temple pray sing and give very nice vibes also meeting people celebrating mahavir janam I enjoyed it all
Fasting I couldn't do in my life but no one force me to do as well so I think Jainism is only religion which is not pressure you to do its just your wish really how you like to be and follow

I just met a Guru who is Jain and I had no idea what Jainism was. Now I've done some research and your video was helpful too. I have come to a conclusion that Jainism can be a wonderful lifestyle (if not taken to extreme). It's quite sad that Western countries know so little about Jainism though..

I like Jainism. I think if people can become less violent and more compassionate to all life, the world would be a much better place to live, right here and now. I also think if people were vegetarian, or even better vegan, it would be better for the animals, more hungry people could be fed the grain used to feed the animals for meat, and there would be a drastic reduction in the greenhouse gas, methane. I think we should borrow these ideas from Jainism on a secular level. It would be better for people, animals and the planet. Right now, we only have this planet.

Well, as a Buddhist I'm pretty much ok with Jainism, even more than with Hinduism, especially with Nirishvaravada which is an atheist sect inside Hinduism. Nothing is worse than abrahamic stuff for me. Btw talking about abrahamic religions I don't share the view that Islam is much worse than Christianity or Judaism. Three of them are just as crazy, dangerous and violent in their potential.

Anyone using statements like "Just another stupid religion" (I am quoting from memory) is not interesting in discussing but in proselytising. I am not religious myself, but I study religion (my specialisation is Buddhism) and I treat any religious experience with respect. You would never hear an anthropologist calling a culture "Just another stupid culture". I think that by trivialising the subject you make a disservice to atheism itself turning into any other form of fanaticism.

Jainism is beautiful and scientific, it believes that universe is eternal and neither can be created nor destroyed but can change the forms. Similar way living energy within ones body can just change the form, but can't be destroyed. Body is just matter and is left behind once life term is completed. I recommend reading Jain literature to understand its philosophy, I am sure, after reading literatures you wouldn't term the philosophy as 'story'. There are enough historical evidences for existence of 23rd and 24th thethankars.

Excellent introduction to the faith, thank you. I have a buddhist background and see many similarities in these two religions. Non violence should be taught in schools from the beginning, it's obvious that it can only benefit all of mankind.

Just got done covering Jainism in my Intro to World Religions class. Really a beautiful school of thought. I was really struck by the nonviolence and absolute honesty they espouse.
most eastern religions are agnostic. for example, Buddhism, and Jainism.

One thing and the most important one which is wrongly mentioned here is 24 TIRTHANKAR reincarnated themselves again and again....well when you break the circle of life and death then only you became Tirthankar.... In simple words which means "no reincarnation" after you become tirthankar. I am proud to follow a belief which makes me a better human and the only religion which never says god will punish you if you will not follow him.

U should read utaradhyayan sutra to discover the brilliance of Jainism and it's philosophy which is unquestionable, although what we see today is mostly distorted part of the religion. But excellency still prevails,

Hemant, you were a vegetarian growing up? So you aren't a vegetarian anymore? You should think about that. I am an atheist vegan, in fact, a huge amount of vegans are atheists- if you look at the evidence, most studies are showing that veganism is better for your health, has less harmful effects on the environment, can allow us to better deal with hunger in both first and third world nations... without even starting on animal rights, and the fact that it is not necessary at all for animals to suffer for us.

Jain is quite similar to Buddhism, these are not really religion but more philosophy, knowledge & science!
It is more similar to Samkhya philosophy (one of 6 philosophies of Hinduism). They both are dual. There rival philosophies are non dual Advaita philosophy(another one of 6 philosophies of Hinduism) and Ajivika philosophy(Non Karmic philosophy). Buddhism is neither Dual nor Non dual. It believes in Anatta/Anatman(emptyness).
If you know.. gautum buddha was a preacher of jainism but he found it too tough to follow full jainsm and hence he made buddhism to go with modern times ..

The reason I say I love buddha and jains is both actually more like an ideology like confucianism and taoism. They basically does'nt even focus on deity like christian and islam do.
one of the things that I like about buddha is the founder of the religion itself is okay if there is mistake in his teaching you can actually correct him this is not happen in case of islam or christianity.
A simple reason why I say it's peaceful is because the religion it'self doesn't have any backing like verses in quran or Bible or even torah they were more into pacifism than violence. for this I say they more peaceful. Obviously a buddhist can be violent but violent one cannot say because it's written in sutra or etc.
Everything I have read about Jainism says that God (as a creator) is not a Jain belief. I don't know why there are jains that say they believe in god. I became a vegan about 3.5 years ago. I tried Jain meditation and I found that particularly peaceful. I otherwise listen to various hindu, buddhist and jain mantra, sometimes over water. I don't understand the negativity about this. It feels way more peaceful than christian or Islam. But then again I perhaps wasn't informed about the belief that westerners might find irritatingly similiar to christian....
The spirituality of some people works like this: You are curious about people and their spirituality. You learn and adapt all, what appeals to you. And that's why Jain-People can believe in a creator. - I mean, I don't know them and I will read more about it later ^^ but if they don't despise this idea, why shouldn't they adapt it? - As a paganist I know that some pagan beliefs are like "Yahweh is crap and Odin is the god I respect." And this is mostly because they despise christians for some reasons and don't want to be like them. But in some pagan beliefs, if you dive deeper, there is often a creative force... and if you want to explain this to a christian, that would be like: "well you call it god." The difference between yahweh and the creative force is btw. that the creative force doesn't want activly being worshiped, it doesn't punish or reward in the afterlife and so on... it simply is, like the universe simply is. And that's how I would explain a buddist this creative force: you simply call it the universe ;-) (not claiming to know much about buddhism)

From what I have read is that is because most belief in god removes the cause-effect of karma. That god(s) can do what (s)he wants, and makes up any arbitrary rules. Some of which results in harm to people and to animals, physical, emotional etc...
The concept of god(s) often is to come up short of a liberated soul, one free from anger, envy, sensuality, selfishness, as such its not worthy of worship.
At the same time, it cannot be denied that religion in general often instills discipline, and ahimsa and compassion to various degrees. Spiritual progress can be obtained even in atheism if it includes moral attributes.

MrJamesBecca God is there in Jain belief. As per belief, anyone who finishes off its karmas, knows about himself, reaches to the soul by the samyak knowledge, character and sight, anyone can be a God... However there are 24 gods (great personalities) in jainism

Well cheap publicity stating degrading religion, if you were born in jainism you better had done some meditation and read the jain scriptures like tattvartha sutra, there is lot of scriptures available that might help you open your consciousness, but then you have to make effort which I am sure casual person like you can never do, if you read what Mahavira had stated which is documented some 600 years you will know how deep the meanings are but anyways you would remain ignorant through your life it seems, hope your consciousness wake up early otherwise you will have to wait for another century to get some realization, best of luck.

This is not prompted by any sort of belief- so please have no fear of offending me. I am curious how you would respond to
the assertion that "karma" is merely a form of Newton's 3rd law of motion (for every action, there's an equal & opposite reaction.) I realize that this may sound strange, but if matter = energy (relatively, or conceptually), and according to general
"common sense," its quite normal to hear things like "what goes around, comes around;" and "you reap what you sow."
I am not a "believer" in karma, its not that I'm trying to validate (or disprove it.) I'm just curious about your take on the assertion (which I have heard) that "karma" isn't a spiritual law at all, but simply a natural one. Thanks.
Karma depends on luck. Sometimes murderers get away with their murders, and sometimes the innocent people are put in jail.
Mr95044 Well, sort of, but "luck" is just another "magic" word like "karma."
For the purposes of what I was asking, they are not much different. "Bad luck" "usually" follows a murderer, unless they work for the CIA and have a good cover story.

gravity for beings who live on the surface of

I don't believe in karma but I do believe in cause and effect. I think the difference between the 2 is that with karma you are expecting one specific effect whereas cause and effect can have a different effect than expected.
Half knowledge is dangerous, I was taught in school. Maybe ur few points are logic, but then there comes a point when logics fail and then faith prevails, even if it does for a second of time in life time, u r touched by that faith.

All this time I can't believe that I didn't know Hemant Mehta grew up Jainist. I too have no problem with Jainism because it does not lead to violence.
So, Jainism is in my opinion one of the mature religions where you have to have faith instead of juggle for finding evidences and thats where most of the people fall behind is because they try to argue with intelligence. It is not any kind of a 'blind faith' but you realize its depth and truth once you try to understand it deeper and start practicing it in your life. You wont see the effects in like a day or two, but the result will definitely show once you start inhaling Jainism in and let it teach you. You will feel more yourself and at peace than you did before, trying to battle this with intelligence. It is an indirect feeling that you cant explain or put evidences for, but you feel it in you, and thats what Jainism is about. Its about the soul (faith) rather than mind (intelligence). actually because most of the people don't want to be non violent because then they have to be vegetarian. but everyone who is not jain should also be non violent. because an innocent animal suffers lots of pain when they are killed for the enjoyment of people. every human being should be kind not only towards the other human being but also towards innocent animals.
actually you should go in some depth of jainism. lord mahavir who was 24th thirthankar (not just a story) said that AHINSAA PARMO DHARM means NONVIOLENCE IS THE GREATEST RELIGION. He said that we should be vegetarian and should cause least harm to the other living beings and nature.

The biggest issue I have with Jains or vegetarian Hindus is their sense of superiority, which leads to discrimination against people who don't follow their belief. For example, Jains live in segregated apartment blocks where non vegetarians cannot live. Vegetarian Hindus have to perform a ritual bathing to wash of the sins if they touch a meat eater etc. I wish you had mentioned about it in the video.

being a jain requires you to meditate or being mindful.
while meditating you'll somewhat start experiencing that you are a slave of your karma (actions that you did and are doing at present). whatever you are thinking now is based upon what you thought before now (this is actually the reaction of your previous actions or in india we express it as Fruits of our own Karma) and as we know that whatever we do is driven by whatever we think hence our present actions are reactions of our previous actions. so this is the actual concept of fruits of karma.
this concept is not imposed on anybody this is a universal law which is followed uniformly by every living being be it plants or animals or insects or microbes. ofcourse the amount of karma generated by different organisms is different and according to jain texts which may be wrong the amount of karma generated by an organism depends upon the number of senses that organism has (senses like seeing, hearing etc) like snakes can't hear so they'll generate a lesser amount of karma in their life than a human but at the same time it doesn't have the attribute to reflect upon its own actions (which in india is called 'ANTARDRISHTI' OR 'DARSHAN' ) So they will be farther away from being enlightened ( which in india is called 'SIDDHA PURUSHA' ). the soul of snake will have to reincarnate in accordance to the fruits of its karma until it gets reincarnated in the avatar of an intelligent being (an intelligent being can reflect upon its actions) and if this intelligent being starts meditating (or starts doing any similar action through which it can reflect upon its actions and at the same time experience the reactions of those previous actions without generating new actions I.e. with being neutral to those reactions he experiences) will that soul reach its destination of being enlightened (or achieving 'NIRVANA'). and every soul is destined to achieve this state (mind you that a soul is infinite and the number souls in the universe is also infinite. every mathematical concept of infinity can apply to soul. hence this cycle is never going to stop.) but the infiniteness of soul can not be experienced by a sentient being unless he starts paying heed to his soul or stats paying heed to his body and mind (or in simple words starts meditating) and hence the sentient being experiences pain in situations which his mind interprets to be painful and happiness in situations whiche his mind interprets to be joyful. in reality those are just situations not painful not joyful and being that experiences infiniteness of soul will not have emotions of happiness in joyful moments and emotions of sadness in painful moments.
jainism does have concept of heaven and hell but they are physically reachable like for soul which does bad will experience hell when it reincarnates in the form of a lesser powerful creature being lesser powerful would make it vulnerable to anything which is more powerful than it and it will be violated and exploited. and a soul which does good will experience a higher level of heaven when it gets reincarnated in the form of a more powerful being. hence you see in jainism 7 levels of hell and 7 levels of heaven and above all these levels is the realm of SIDDHA PURUSHA where pure souls reside all of these levels are here in the universe the spiritual and physical both lie at the same place and superimpose each other that's why physical bodies have spirits but physical bodies can't access the spiritual world and the spiritual world has access to the physical world. the free spirits never interfere with the physical world because they don't have any kind of desire left in them and also because that will make them do an action or KARMA which will again attache them to the physical world and they'll again have to go through the processes of life.
the number of enlightened people is not limited to only the 24 tirthankars. every tirthankar has said that infinite SIDDHA PURUSHA have come before me and infinite more will come after me. also Gautam Buddha was a SIDDHA PURUSHA as well.
So this is all the knowledge of jainism that I know until now. it's for those who wish to know more about this philosophy. Some would say jainism is atheistic and some would say it is pantheistic I think it's a mix of both. and almost all of it seems logical to me I've meditated also and have a tiny amount experience i know with that amount of experience I cannot say that it is true yet it seems logical to me only and rhatd only because I've been raised in this philosophy. but I will meditate myself to find out if all of this is true or not.

I grew up practicing one of the Abrahamic religions but, now that I’m getting close to 30, I’ve started to worry about reincarnation and having to start my life all over again. That’s why I started practicing Jainism and have one of their auspicious symbols painted on my wallet.
He spoke of there not being any God(s) in Jainism, then later goes on to say there are there '24' that supposedly reached nirvana. Umm..deities ARE gods! If you are so interested in truth, then why speak of contradictions? Or you just aren't nearly as bright as you perceive yourself to be?
Actually The man in the video, don't know the truth himself... He is totally confused. In Jainism, the soul of every living being is described as the real god. Those who are liberated are called pure-soul (Siddha), and they are the path-shower for others.. so, they are referred as GOD to pay homage. But, it is a very huge concept.
Akshay Patni What baffles me is that he often says in his videos that he will reply to comments. I have yet to see this. I personally have commented on a number of his videos and asked him questions, yet not one reply by him. He could at least be honest or to not mention that he will reply back. I guess only his views 'count' or are of value? And it's not an issue of time. I made these comments LONG ago. Oh well..he argues his case in his videos but he can't reply to peoples questions or refutations of what he has said? That sums it up to me that he is not open-minded at all. If he can go to so much trouble in making quality supposedly in-depth videos but he can't respond to the comments, it appears that he wants to reach out to naive people while ignoring people that have legitimate questions(which I doubt he has any good answers for).

People kinda like him, are the reason why others do not understand religion. Well, no issues... Akshay Patni I am a Christian but I am always game on learning about different religions. I recently studied about the claims of Mormonism(which are some wild claims with no evidence to back them up btw!) and am currently investigating the claims of Islam from the Qurán. Just recently found out a startling claim in the Qurán: it speaks about the People of the Book(Christians) and says that the Christians should not believe in "excess" regarding the New Testament. What was this excess belief? That the Christians should not believe in the Trinity(which the Qurán falsely thought was 3 separate gods..which no Christian has ever believed. But here's the kicker: It mentioned the Trinity as being - the Father, the Son and ....(drum roll please...MARY!! Wow! No Christian has EVER believed in Mary as being part of the Trinity! What is so intriguing about it? Mohammed claims he is simply the Messenger of God and that the Qurán is an eternal Book that was revealed on earth to Mohammed via the angel Gabriel. So the problem then? A Muslim would agree w/a Christian that God is All-Knowing, yet God did not know what a Christian believed to be the Trinity(Father, Son and Holy Spirit)? Obviously the Quráns claim of being a eternal holy book from God is therefore bogus then. The Qurán was made up by Mohammed obviously. Despite this huge error he made, over a billion Muslims still believe in the Qurán coming from God. To that I must shake my head. But interesting nonetheless! Sadly, Mohammed has not contributed much value to the world thru Islam. But it surely has brought much death and destruction, which is growing rapidly! ISIS is an evil that I have not seen in my lifetime and reminds me much of Hitler's regime in its atrocities and brutality. (Stalin and Pol Pot come to mind as well. Hey Atheist voice, you couldn't be more wrong, actually jainism totally acknowledges a God. The idea of God doesn't exist as a creator or a destroyer, but a perfected being, and there is a myriad of beings who represent this. Now being so, this doesn't take away from the fact, that God does indeed exist. Tīrthaṅkaras dwell exclusively within the realm of their Soul, and are entirely free of kashayas, inner passions, and personal desires. The most amazing part of this, is that being entirely in there soul, which everyone has btw, they realized truth can only be found within themselves.

Jainism is always what I think of when people claim that atheism is a religion. Atheism is a religious position, and it's actually part of some forms of Buddhism and Jainism. The absence of belief in gods is a religious position, but it isn't enough to define a religion entirely.

Jainism is an off-shoot of Hinduism, just like other Indian religions, Buddhism & Sikhism. But since they are recognised as separate religions now, most adherents of all these religions don't like their faith being called an off-shoot. If you study their philosophy, they share the same concepts of Dharma, Karma, Moksha, re-incarnation etc with Hinduism.

2. Jainism was founded well before vedas where written. Vedas mentions many Jain tirthankars including aadinath (not shiva but 1st jain tirthankara), shantinath, aristhnemi (neminath, cousin of Krishna). Since last two tirthankaras (parshwanath and maharveer swami) where born after Vedas where written, we do not find their mention in vedas but they are very well archeologically proven to exist. So you see Jainism is not an off shoot of a sudo religion (Hinduism) like you believe. THere was vedic and shamanic tradition. Jains belong to shamanic tradition.
3. Just because they use same terminology, doesnt mean they are same things. Buddhism doesnt believe in Souls at all. Jain moksha is diff from that of Vedic or Buddhist. Dont confuse them. Its not just different interpretation, their very nature and existence is debated.
4. Even Dr. Radha Krishnan and Swami Vivekanand said that Jainism is separate religion. So did Sankaracharya. We dont have any problems of being called Hindu because it is our cultural identity. Dont confuse it as religious belief. Jains have always strived to be with Hindus we all are Hindus. It is concept of anekantvad that lets us maintain peace and respect each other.

no. Fundamentally, some core ideas are same, but there are many differences. Actually, some say that Jainism is not a religion but a way of life.
Major difference is that in Jainism anyone can become (attain) Moksha (enlightenment/Nirvana) that is getting out of the cycle of life and death (reincarnation). But in Buddhism, there is only one, Gautam Buddha.

I can find no rational or scientific reason to believe in karma. What possible evidence is there for it? Yet I feel compelled to believe in it. I know that there is no "why" for our being here, or indeed why there is something rather than nothing. Perhaps there's something in our hard wiring that compels us to seek purpose where there is none, an evolutionary artefact.
Karma is nothing more than a reaction to what you do.
In a nutshell, even the reactions from other people to your actions are karma. Consider it like an underlying mechanism, wich is not equally balanced, but tend to swing to a side, when certain actions are performed over and over again.
The best example i can think of, is the one i gave already with the drugs.
Or maybe smoking. You smoke 4 packets a day, the balance of karma will more likely swing in the direction of cancer.
Or if you drink 2 bottles of whisky everyday, the likelihood that your life will get "a little bit difficult", will increase.
As i said, this is just a very basic example, its far more subtile, but i am somewhat convinced of its existence.
But its not like mathgematics, its not 2+2=4, its more like a weather forecast, with too many variables to forecast exactly.

I found ironic a while ago when I gave some money to a charity and they told me about karma, straight away I told them I don't believe in karma but they continue telling me how if I do good things good things will happen to me and what came to my mind was, do the people they are trying to help deserve cancer in their world view? Karma doesent mean that you get "punished" for something, therefor you get cancer.

And this is a very careful way of saying that.
But as with most expressions of these sorts, karma will also have slightly different meaning, depending who you are asking.
I can only give you the one i perceived, and wich is real for me, as you should know that an absolute thruth is non existant.
But however it is, if you ever have the chance, to make a long roadtrip, maybe several months, or even years. If you are free to go where ever you want to, then it is much more observable, and much more real, at least the feeling i had was much more stronger, when i was free to go whereever i wanted, and thus, all actions have much more direct impact.
I am an Atheist, and i didnt quite believe those things, but after i thought about all that happened to me the last 60 years, it was kind of obvious, that some actions had undenying consequences.
But i am not in a position to explain it better im afraid. Nevertheless, obviously it seemed to work, wether i believed in it or not, but of course, lets not forget that our brain is programmed to search for patterns and similarities, so, who knows?

I'm not sure about the other 23 Tirtankaras, because we really only scratched Jainism in my World Religions class, unfortunately, but the Mahavira sounded like a pretty cool guy. Even if you don't believe the stuff about him not kicking his mother while still in the womb, which I don't, at least he lived a life of peace once born.
Jainism is a wonderful philosophy. It is atheist at its core. They do believe in karma - but if you think about it logically, not metaphysically, karma makes sense. If I’m constantly being negative and expressing negativity toward others, I’ll likely get that back. Also, you say you were vegetarian growing up. Did you start eating meat? If so, I’m sorry the principle of ahimsa didn’t resonate with you.
You keep telling "there is no evidence of this (stuff)". Ok, let's say you make a point. But is the absence of evidence proof of its absence ? To me, atheism is as crazy are religions...
SO THEN IN CALCULATIONS OF YOUR OWN BELIEF, IS IT CORRECT TO SAY A STRONG BELIEF IN CONVENIENCE?
Philosophy of Jainism is not about not killing anyone. Its not possible. It is only about avoiding to extent you can i.e avoiding violence which are completely unnecessary and also not being proud or happy about other violence which you have to commit. Also one has to strive to be as non-violent as you can . Violence in Jainism is not just about killing anyone. It is also about not feeling angry or hatred for anyone. Not thinking or speaking or doing anything bad for anyone.
Also about food, Jains decide what to eat and what not to, depends on study of Jiv-vichar which is a book which talks about what all types of living being exist in universe, their type, how they are born, in which conditions they tend to form, no of senses they have (humans have 5 senses).
So food of jains depends on
Bhakshya: which can be eaten
Abhakshya: Which should not be eaten (like poison or other stuff which is not gud for health)
Also it depends on following:
1. what kind of living being needs to be killed. for killing living being of more senses like human or animals is more cruel that killing animals of single sense like bacteria or plants as you require more cruelty for doing so
2. how painful it will be for it, make sure you kill them in least painful way.
3. how many living being dies,
4. What changes does that food bring in us. i.e does it kill me, or does it cause me illness, or does it increase hormones which can be responsible for aggression, etc
Jains very well knew about bacterias and other stuff which is already mentioned in this old scriptures.
Also Mahaveer, Parshwanath and Neminath are archeologically proven human beings (being king of their kingdoms). There is enough proven evidence of their existence found in rock edicts, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures apart from Jain religious books.
It is very scientific religion. Its just ignorance of people who really didn't have deep study of religion. There are no moral or religious law, just natural laws in Jainism which applies to all, even Tirthankaras just like gravity.
3:00, same will happen to India if we also keep calling Hinduism a religion, what is a philosophy should not compare with religions. IT seems this guy is a fool who felt inferior in front of majority of Christians in the USA who might mock him for not being part of Abrahamic religion.
