I'm driving 10th scale in France and Germany : yes astroturff is the most used, and usually carpet for winter.
As for classes 2WD and 4WD are the most commun, trucks a little, and that's it...
As for sub class, there is a clear difference between the two : In France there is only stock for 2WD (13.5T, blinky) and it is considered as a beginner class, then there is 2WD/truck/4WD Mod.
In Germany, Stock istaken seriously, it's a real class and driver are specialised in stock (13.5t for 2WD/10.5T for 4WD), it's not uncommon to see more stock than mod in small carpet track (and not so much time difference)

1/8 Buggies are mainly x-rays, for one single reason: parts. There is only one shop that imports them and keeps a decent stock: RCTitan, and you showed their track in the middle of the video (it is closed by the way)
Occasionally we see Mugens, Mayako and Losi, but because of having to pay absurd shipping prices from Germany, France or Italy, they are less common.

- not that I'm any good at insta or racing, but could share some UK tracks for future videos... I marshalled Kev Talbot multiple times tonight (he was in the heat after me, & had a rough time with the layout, but he's fast, & a sound bloke too) - I'm name a dropping numpty if you've not heard of him? I made 2nd in the B final, my best result at that club, chuffed :) Nice work on the livestream tonight mate! All the best from UK!
Great video buddy as always..... As a regular 1/12 racer in the UK running in what is considered to be a budget friendly class of on road cars I love the close competitive racing this encourages and as for our racing category in the UK it's all based on how well you run so I can in theory run with a world champion assuming I qualified well enough, non of this sport man's class of which you speak... Sounds like vanity to me 😂

Good video, man. I haven't raced in a few years, but I still watch races often. I'm in Canada, which is closer to US style than EU or Asia, but less of the extra classes based on age. I think fewer classes with more mains would be better. Maybe have a short period of open practice to seed for controlled practice. If someone finishes 6th in the J main instead of 4th in the over 50 Sportsman C main, its okay. Some of the US class separations just seem silly to me.
Great videos, I stumbled on your channel researching crazy cars. My reason for researching is back in the mid and late 80’s very early 90’s I was a racer hook line and sinker. We had an indoor clay track that was huge and a blast to head to on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights. Back then we had 2 main classes, stock or modified and the only real difference was the motor turn, stock went up to 35k rpm’s and modified was higher than that, usually around 75k rpm’s. All on 6 cell NiCd batteries. Now things have changed, specifically in my area where there is really no convenient tracks to race at anymore. Bashing seems to be where it’s at now. But I’ve come back to the hobby and really having fun learning about all the tech changes since I once raced. Yes, the rc10 was the car I ran and now I’m trying to justify buying another.
Here in Australia, AE is the most common brand followed by Xray and TLR I'd say.
Here in Sweden we only race mod in 10th scale and the most popular brands are AE, serpent, Schumacher and some X-ray , TLR don’t have a distributor in Sweden so it’s just not popular. Have seen 1 sworks and 1 hot bodies in 4wd. 8th scale is not something I dabble in so couldn’t tell you 😂
Great video. I am just getting back into r/c and have been interested in racing, specifically in GA and have been confused by all the variability I've seen. Also wish there was on-road more prevalent, but I digress. This was a great primer video and something I can look back as I delve more into the hobby and specifically racing. Thanks for sharing!

I tend to race in Western Wisconsin. There used to be an indoor clay track that I went to, but it switched to turf due to time constraints for maintenance. Otherwise there is a big outdoor dirt track near me that is also popular. In the Twin Cities, it's all carpet. I don't mind this too much as it means less cleaning after the race. We also have a healthy mix of brands from both the US and Europe.
Only reason I'd prefer dirt tracks over carpet tracks i because it only makes sense a buggy which is an offroader to race on a non paved surface rather than some carpet, again this is just realisticly thinking

I will be attending my first race this weekend with a 1/5 scale gas buggy.
1/10 is the popular scale down under but I prefer the large scale cars, I find them easier to wrench on and you can't beat the sound of the gas engine.
I'm excited to probably start racing soon! I've been in all areas of rc over the years, but always had an itch for racing cars. Just got myself a losi mini-b to set up a track in my attic and see if i really do like it. If i do i will probably go to a local astroturf track here in Belgium, if i can save up enough to get going ;)
Southern Wisconsin here. 2 clay tracks within 30 miles of me, the rest are 90+ miles
The 2 are pretty decent although the internet pictures do make them look bigger than reality
I've only been watching RUclips videos, but it seems like rc hobby has a much larger following across the pond
Sick video brah!! I have Christchurch. Nelson and counties "Auckland south" on my channel we are all clubs, and often a club will remake a track for a big race like the nationals. Pretty open practice leading to the event. Once event starts, close practice and heats only. Not great content but you can use anything you want
Hey Roach, love the in depth video... The jazz tracks are an welcome change to the usual death metal on other rc channels. 🎹🎷🥁 Your voice is one that I find both comforting and refreshing in the world of RC, more specifically from the states. I recently moved from Cali to Colorado and at first i didn't think it would affect me as much as it did. I find myself saying, "Did that guy just say that?!" more often than I'd like. Anyway, I recently bought a 12th scale onroad car and it's been a struggle. There is an outdoor 1/8th scale dirt track not too far away but the initial cost has kept me away. Now that I have watched a few of your videos i feel like im much more equipped to make a purchase to get my foot in the door. Keep up the great work bro!
Great video I have numerous cars but have no where to race unless I want to drive two hours each way every week or twice a week if I want to practice live in the north east United States closest track to me is In peninsula two hours away. I raced off road and oval back in the 90s but now I have new cars and no place to race
As always great video. The only thing I have a slight disagreement with it truggys killing tires faster. In my experience they actually last just a bit longer. While they have more power, they also have a much bigger contact patch like you said. It's not a crazy amount or anything though, maybe an extra run or 2.
I love how there is one thing that all sports have in common. sandbaggers. Its easy to label someone a sandbagger who just had a good day but when you come across a reaL bagger youll definitely know it

Im from New Zealand, I race 1/8 Kyosho Buggies/Truggies, 1/10 Kyosho and Yokomo buggies, and Vintage Kyosho Cars. Racing is amazing here. Unfortunatley there is only one high grip 1/8 track in the country, everything is loose dirt.
That Georgia track do think if you were to stretch it out it would be a quarter of a mile?
I was just curious what you thought about the 21.5 class ?
Not only am I finding it interesting but I prefer watching the speed of it it feels more realistic
I like the class. Pretty good for starting out and I think it would be a really good spec class

i do feel the us racing is better for beginners especially with the addition of bigger vehicles like sct and truggy where you don't chase setup as much and deal with the tracks better. here on the north east side of rc racing though you don't have a lot at least where i'm at we typically travel and hour plus to race only on carpet and the only dirt track close was closed in 2017 due to family. that was the biggest dent to our racing because when i was like 2 or 3 my dad was racing their running who knows what for classes and wouldent be to surprised if he's been racing there for 20 plus years.(sucks seeing no track there anymore was converted to a house) i started with sct on dirt and kinda miss the days of cleaning my truck for the next dirt race out side in nice wether and on carpet i dont get that same feeling racing sct so majority of the time i just run 2wd buggy and when it comes to brands here its very rare to find yokomo and kyosho but when you do find em its pretty cool most guys also are sponserd over on this track so not having a pro and intermediate class would cause absolute wars because of bad driving traffic jams ect so NE is special but their tracks and not very diffrent from the norm

I like carpet racing so I like the European style tracks for 10th scale, the track I go to uses this style of track. But for 8th scale I like the American style tracks!
Euro guys wouldn't fair well on our clay/ lower grip tracks. High bite, smooth concrete lane 8th scale is just weird. that's not offroad. 1/10th carpet offroad is cool though

I wonder why you tend to call rc cars toys? yet you would call a go cart a go cart… A toy is a play thing for a child by definition… I have no under 18 year old members at my club… I get why you call them toys as one might 19:18 call a Ferrari a toy also… but I think it undermines the skill, dedication and development people put into racing RC cars as a pose to playing toy soldiers in the sand.

There is 1 thing i would like to point out. When we talk about dirt, because “it’s like it should be” for offroad, please stay away from slicks and sauce etc.. then just switch to Astro or Carpet, which is the best option for every track owner or club. ✌🏼
I hear a lot of people in the uk say that dirt is best but unless you have a team of people to rake sweep and water to seal the dirt then it becomes a big mare. A brand new £700 car can look 10

Race. If it’s raining the buggy can get really heavy with mud stuck in it. Bearings get ruined . People should know they are lucky to have a clean all weather track near them. To me as long as it has jumps it’s off-road.

For me personally i like loam oldscool dirt the most, changing conditions and cleaning cars properly… but, Astro is bye far the best alternative for outdoors imo.

A track near me practically just layed it over a rough dirt track and it got a ton of bumps in it; anything but smooth. And the dirt on the astroturf can dramatically affect grip when you dont expect it.
