    The B4 would have to be considered the greatest RC race car of all time - winning 4 world championships. Even though the classic RC10 is the most iconic and influential.

    I the mid motor started with Xfactory with the help of Brian Kinwald it was a conversion kit for the B4 the x6 squared and the x60st. Then Brian started racing with TLR that’s when the 22 was born. I had the privilege to race with Brian at Competitions Hobbies in Tucson Arizona and I still have my Xfactory cars and love driving them. This video really took me back I started racing in 84 and still love it. Great content keep up the great work!!

    I believe "braids" were the copper brush assemblies that were underneath the slot car that made contact with the electrified ribbon imbedded in the track that powered the cars.

    Raced AE for about 5 years before just recently switching to Tekno and now driving the EB410.2&ET410. The amount of engineering that goes into these little off-road 10th scale cars is incredible, and that's coming from someone that was an F-22&F-35 mechanic for over a decade.

    Good to see a AE history. I started racing with an RC10. It was huge, everyone ran it back then. Then the RC10T came out and everyone went crazy for stadium truck. Losi had the jrx-2 and later the jrxt and the stage was set for a great rivalry!

    I had the first rc10. The trick it was to get the transmission running free. Out of the box it was tight!
    I also toured the AE shop in 91, with non other then Cliff Lett. The old days were great.

    A 6 Gear Gold pan was my first RC car. When the Stealth cars came out, I moved to it and handed my 6 gear down to my brother. We still have the cars today. And Yes, the are still in working order. Tekin 4-11 P2 ESCs Old Futaba Radios and I ran a Trinity Green Machine motor and my brother ran a Slot Machine. When the re-release cars were announce, our local track started a vintage class. I put B4 rear hubs (to run modern wheel and tires), bearings, CVDs, upper gear and a B4 slipper clutch in it. We were allow to run 17.5 turn brushless motors. So that's what I did. I put a fast Savox servo in it, JConcepts steering setup on it with Bar code tires all around. I came in 2nd the fist couple races then the class died out. When people would break or ware out parts, they couldn't replace them right away, they just stopped racing the vintage class... I get mine out a few times a year just to play out side from time to time. I also have a Gold pan that is now a stealth with the Kyosho monster truck conversion on it. That is also brushless and super cool to drive.

    • @RoachRC
      @RoachRC  2 года назад +3

      I think that's the part that holds Vintage classes back, part support. Luckily with the advent of 3d printing you can make replacement parts or by them third party. My friend Brock Peterson and RC Racing Legends are both 3d printers who work on vintage parts.

I missed half the season because I didn't even know it existed. Anyway by the end of the season I finished 2nd in points with my 10t. I dominated with it. I loved that truck. Great video

    By the way, the scientific reason a mid motored car turns with greater agility than a rear motored car is that the mid motored car has a smaller Polar Moment of Inertia. It is a measure of how the mass is distributed about the rotational axis. When the figure skater retracts her legs and spins faster, she is reducing her polar moment of inertia, allowing her angular velocity to increase.

    Awesome vid, if you want to know more about the evolution of the mid-motor cars you need to look into the X-factory conversion kits. The owners are Paul and Chazz Sinclair. They were working on mid-motor chassis kits for years before the mainstream companies and tracks switched. We actually sold their kits at our hobby store in Michigan.

    • @broccli2007
      @broccli2007 2 года назад

      Interestingly enough, the mid motor conversions have been around at least since the rc10. The one that comes to mind is the tekin rc10 mid motor conversion. There is a RUclips channel that features one in a few of his videos, drmosfet

    • @broccli2007
      @broccli2007 2 года назад

      Oh also the tekin mid motor conversion has active rear suspension which I assume the concepts were borrowed from F1 as McLaren around the same time had active suspension prior to the fia banning it due to their dominance

  • @brianlackie5093
    @brianlackie5093 7 месяцев назад +2

    Gill losi had a hand in the development of the rc 10. A lot of associated guys don't recognize that. My memory might be a little foggy but i thought the double x took the worlds when it debuted in 90's and i seem to remember the double X hitting the track before the B2. This was many years ago and I was just getting into the hobby. The double x is the car that got my intention and inspired me. Guys were still running the rc10 at the time and the double x seemed leaps ahead in technology next to the rc10. Associated took inspiration from the XX platform with the b2 and b3. I was there when these cars debuted but never got into the politics back then. Losi isn't the same losi it used to be but I still like tlr, after all tlr won the Nationals with the 22 5.0 the last 2 years in a row and Tater took the world last year with the 5.0. They're all basically made in China now anyways. The politics and history between Associated and losi has always been a little obscured. But the roots of Losi and associated were sort of intertwine

    Great video
    I tell you what I remember for Team Associated on-road for electric it’s started with the various generations of RC12L that continued up until the end, then they decided to go into 1/10 pan cars with the RC10L around the mid late 80’s one thing to note at one point the RC10L held the RC speed record in 1991 at 70mph on a bicycle oval (I still have the RCCA mag that featured the car and race) that record was broken afterwards with a 10L based custom creation… eventually that evolved into two different cars a RC10SS (super speed way) for oval racing and a regular RC10L2 for road corse not much changed visually there until they ended the OnRoad program I believe the final variant was called the RC10L5 or something. somewhere before their first real TC enter the oddity that was the RC10DS & Nitro DS based on the RC10 Worlds car and the RC10GT for the nitro version both were a RWD 200mm wide touring car that never really found its place In parking lot racing (maybe eventually dirt oval) enter their first real 4WD Touring Car around 2000/2001 the TC3 and it’s nitro variant the Nitro TC3 both were very efficient shaft drive 4WD when other electric TC were belt drive the TC3 pretty much dominated the parking lots and outdoor asphalt tracks in the early 2000’s I’m not sure when the TC4 was released but it was just an updated TC3 by then everyone else went back to a 2 belt 4WD layout enter so the TC5 and later TC5R (rubber tire variant for asphalt racing) around 2007 and 2008 respectively this was their first 2 belt TC then we get the TC6 and it’s variants and finally the TC7/ TC7.1 and to correct you the TC7.2 was actually the last car they were barely out the door when associated pulled the plug side note they also produced a F1 car called the RC10F6, in 2017. Team Associated had a very long history with OnRoad electric and Nitro it’s sad it all ended the way it did

    Kyosho has an amazing history too. Founded in 1963, they launched the first Kyosho RC car in 1970: The Dash-1, since then, the company has evolved as well their RC cars, winning 8 world championships in total. Tamiya is also a big fish in this tank (if not the biggest). In the R/C industry, one of the real "OG's" (originals) is none other than Tamiya. Tamiya got there start in wooden models back in 1948. They would go on to begin plastic model production in 1968, and make quite a name for themselves in both markets. While they had releases a few motorized tanks shortly after this, it wasn't until November, 1976 that they would introduce their first R/C car - the 1/12-scale Porsche 934 Turbo. The rest is a ver well known history.

    Hi Roach RC! Great Vid! -have you done a history of Schumacher RC vid yet? Hate comparing US to UK but you guys are closer to where I started 30 years ago- that was on on dirt!
    I loved racing on that surface, and it is completely off the radar over here now, we have astro & and carpet, which is cool, but almost like on-road with the grip level...
    if I had the money I'd start a covered UK dirt track club, (it rains a bit here) - and get some rooster tails going like the ol' days :) do you have many UK subscribers? meantime, All the best Dude!

      Thanks for the kind words man. I did plan to do a Schumacher video but a few other projects pushed it back.
      Also the top three countries that watch my videos are the US (duh), Canada, and the UK but people from a lot of different places have stumbled into my channel.
      Lastly, "It rains a bit". Only a bit?😅

    Slot cars braids are the pick ups instead of the little copper plates that can where with a grove the braid is more like a bunch of small metal-wires and they are in a over under pattern to hold the wires together thats how the name braid comes in. The little wires are braided together thins the name.

    Just a footnote though, Rivkin won the 2019 worlds, I think you said 2021, which obviously didn’t run because of the virus that shall not be named 😂

    Only had one ... TC3.. was supposed to be revolutionary. But failed. The carbon arms broke way to easy. The gearboxes munch down on the ball-bearings. Still got it too..

    RCS with the dynamite stick heavy batteries that would lose all the power in like 10 minutes you had to have at least three battery packs and I bought a kit where I had to put it together from RC action magazine
