How To Build a Budget RC Race Buggy (Kyosho Dirt Master)
Your vids are so refreshing, and informative. You speak concise, no screaming and yelling like an R.C informercal from a local used car dealer.
Are the Majority of the 1/8 Biggies 2W or 4W in competition
All of them are 4wd with a shaft driven layout with three sealed diffs
If its not Nitro I have almost no interest in watching or running them e buggies, and trust me I tried them all. I wish 1/10 nitro stadium trucks would come back as well. I also wish 1/8 f1 car racing would of took off there's so much tuning in 2wd f1 chassis it would actually be fun in both nitro and brushless..
I used to race an Ofna 1:8 ebuggy
Cool interview. So much i didn't know about the rc racing world. I have a question not pertaining to this discussion: in your experience what makes better overal racing surface? Carpet or Astro turf? And why? What are the pro's and cons that you may have experienced between them?
I might make a video on that soon depending on future plans
👍🏾@@RoachRC
This is great. I am thinking of getting a TLR Typhon. I am new to the RC game but have always loved it. Reason for TLR Typhon is I don't have too many tracks available and bashing is kinda what is most available. So it would be cool to have more of a jack of all trades than a precision racer that I wouldn't be able to use with great frequency at a track.
great video. Lutz is one of the best ambassadors of RC
There are a few racers that think its fun to yell at people on the drivers stand like ‘get out of my way’ because in a straightaway, they might be a little faster, but as far as lap times are considered, they are not as consistent as you are and we are all trying to make good laps and have a good time and they know by opening their big mouths, they can get into peoples heads, certainly not good for a new racer
Were you at the club race at Loganville RC Complex this past Saturday? Curious as to what tire choices you used that day with the wet track.
I ended up running clay bar tyres(Chestes) and managed a third place with the fastest lap. Worked out pretty well
I LOVE OHIO BOY.
I hope a 2025 version of this is coming out soon. My perspective as a new outsider is that RC racing may be in a little trouble. I took an hour and went through the registered drivers for all club races at my local track going back to pre-pandemic data. There has been an almost complete turn-over of people at the track, few of the people from 5-6 years ago are still racing at that track. The number of unique drivers is down by about 30% and has only slightly recovered post-pandemic. Something like 80-90%% of Sportsman/Novice racers (that actually entered a club race) are not continuing beyond the first year. Many drop within a few months. Someone needs to take a look at these stats. Liverc and RCsignup have the data - do you know if they share it? Someone could calculate how many first time racers are still racing after 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. They could show what percentage of racers are still racing after 1 year, 2 years, and 5 years trended over time. Just a cursory glance at the data seems like this industry might not be very healthy. I wouldn't say it is dying, just sick.
How does 3 gear match up? It leave almost not contact between the gears?
Totally agree
Which track are you running the Grasshopper at around the 2:00 mark? Looks like a blast.
Thank you
Lutz and Tebo have been my favorite drivers to watch since the late 90's. Great interview
I drive the nitro and can safely say its the best car ive ever driven fast strong and easy to work on and can make diff changes very quickly its a game changer
I use a kyosho mp10 as well I just got the tki2 and before that I was using the readyset
I think rougher tracks for off road is more correct
What is KPI?
King pin inclination. To easily explain it you can see caster angle from the side and the kpi is the difference in the pivot points viewed from the front
@@keithbowen3415 I see. Thank you
Go Ryan. Go Team Kyosho!
Cool that Caster made the honorable mentions. If you want to know more about Caster, myself and a few other team drivers will be at North Georgia Shootout this year.
Culinary school? I never knew that! Very cool!
bring TRUCK bodY’s back that go over front shock tower otherwise its looks like a 1/7 buggy SMFH
I am rebuilding a RC10 t2, I wonder if would be any good to run stadium.
I want to grow an RC racing community in my city, but its a struggle to get people interested. I'm in Shanghai.
Still loving the Roach channel.
I'm having to get person just at retirement age and I used to run airplanes years ago and now I'm going to get into RC cars and trucks and I love your content on your videos very informative and you have a nice clear speaking voice you could you could do this professionally and I mean on the air you're very good would love to meet you sometime and have a cup of coffee
Hey dude I'm dean I'm I from the uk I think your completely right I've seen people buy the b7 not put any time on the track and go buy any upgrades that look cool or promise success, I got the b7 a week or so ago still waiting for my motor, fan and Lipo to be delivered I want to keep my car as stock as possible just to see how I get on grate video dude I look forward to the next one peace ✌️
I sold my 2.0 Tekno last summer... I have an older Xray buggy with the single battery configuration, I believe it's a 2020 model. I have been contemplating picking up the MP10e Tki2 kit for the coming season... that or the 2.2 Tekno. Let me know if you think that picking up the Tki2 is a good option. I race on low-med grip tracks that do sometimes develop a good bit of character. Cheers...
Out of the Box the Tekno will be easy to drive on rougher tracks 👍
All of the poor handling and parachuting of SCT is what makes them challenging and interesting. I like bigger setups that really respond to setup changes. I like body roll. In reality they are difficult to setup and drive consistently which is why those used to formula one handling pass on them. They are…just like their full scale counterparts in my opinion. A real handful.
The big bear was the first RC car that I ever saw run besides something you would buy in a toy store. The year was 1987. By 1988 I was able to get my hands on a big bear kit and begin racing it at the local 4H fair grounds indoor carpet. I used an Airtronics stick radio, 7.2 V NiCad battery, a Leisure quick charger and a Trinity monster stock motor. I also was able to get a Novak speed control, full ball bearing set, Lexan body, and one other item that the big bear needed which was a case saver. It was a metal part that prevented the gear case from flexing and stripping out the gears. It was tremendous fun and I still love truck racing today.
Awesome video, thank you!
Nice beechfest. What car do I buy to race outdoors? B7D?
Lol
Sounds like rc racing is like martial arts & the Navy Seals motto: slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Cheers to you and another great video my man!
See Dick's car. See Dick race. See Dick not let you pass. Don't be a Dick😁
Ive had the same Castle 1800KV motor in my Losi 8ight for about 8 years now. I like it because I have some 6S 3300mah batteries from my RC planes that I can use as practice packs. I dont change the gearing between practicing with a 6S and racing with a 4S.
Hey Roach, just a quick note on the Mayako body shells - they actually have 2 styles of shell. One has the little 'wings' along the side (like yours), and the other is totally flat. It's not for me to say how much difference this makes though - only just got into RC racing a few months ago!
Get something right now i wish i would kept my king motors t2000 4x4 1/5 scale it was new got it and hit hard time right after. Few months sold it. Or 5b that had lights front hydraulic disk brakes a pipe cost dude 250 dollars had it built to order time he got it his buggy was down i got it 60 bucks or something wasn't close to what he paid. Sounded like cr 250 lol. Al orange al a arms braces al. Rims. Nice to either one them like have now. Or new mint baja , vanning. Great video
Rc car action and tower hobbies was the attention holder's in 1986-90s for my little click at jr high some high school and we went to real deal then back to rc late 20s n 30s started on 1/5 scale hpi bajas , 5t and then redcats Mt then all clones of everything hell yeah. I always wanted mint baja kyosho yellow rail like the one almost in beginning video. . Had tmaxx, first new nitro had old thunder tiger dune buggy 85 it was rear rail rollcage red lexan front half cockpit and nose was used traded clapped tri z 3 wheeler 125 for it it was both pieces junk
Love ur videos, very informative. However, the background music is extremely distracting and annoying. Makes it difficult to focus on what your saying. Consider ditching the music when ur talking. Anyway keep em coming! Cheers
the background music is too loud ... hard to understand.
That pink slash colorway is sick
Tyre? I know they don't spell it that way in Georgia lol
Correct. I learned British spelling and it sort of stuck
brapooo
“That’s all for now” keepS the videoeS going’S
Your S’s are super Sweet tho..Ssss
Thanks for all of your invaluable info. As always, great video, great presentation. Cheers!
Just discovered this channel and i'm already recomending it to everyone. Rally high quality content. Love the calm voiceover. Can you recommend any videos about getting into nitro racing with beginner and money friendly kits/motors? (good quality, doesn't need to be the best performer, relatively cheap)
I believe Adam Drake has some videos on Nitro tuning and such. As for which engine you should get. I'd say Flashpoint or the Protek cr21 are great starting points
Congrats on the 1MIL!! 🙌🏼Woot-woot🙌🏼 I don't run 8th scale but I'm still super new and all the info is much appreciated. I really enjoyed the explanation on the servo choice and putting more emphasis on driving practice vs dumping money into expensive shiny bits and bobs. I keep referring back to your video on the mental game involved in racing. The few times I've been on the driver's stand i try to stay calm but it's definitely a challenge.... Especially when I get nervous and mistakes keep happening 😂
