The 2021 Toyota Avalon TRD Is A Surprisingly Good Discontinued Sporty Flagship Sedan
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 сен 2024
- After a 25+ year run, the #ToyotaAvalon is been discontinued for the 2022 model year. While its sad to see this flagship sedan go away, the 2021 #AvalonTRD is anything but a boring sedan. With a sweet-sounding 3.5L V6 under the hood making 301 HP, the last #ToyotaAvalonTRD will be remembered for being the anti-grandpa car, even if its first generations were synonymous with being the Japanese Buick.

Good morning guys! So we actually filmed this vehicle a couple months ago before Toyota announced they were killing it after 2022. Pick one of these up while you can. Think of the TRD version to be the final hurrah to the Avalon name. Will you miss it? We’re going to miss the big flagship sedans, this was one of the last ones 😢
The end of yet another sedan, I understand the appeal of SUV’s and CUV’s for how functional they are in everyday situations but their all the same, can’t tell one from the other, zero passion behind the wheel. If a car as wonderful as a Stinger won’t sell the sedan is truly dead and this Avalon is proof of that, sad !
You have to appreciate they even made a totally crazy body kitted TRD sports Avalon! after seeing the comfort oriented models for so long, amazing they did this at all, the styling comments are well stated, nice review!
found one today silver Avalon trd 55k miles 2020 they asking 30k which your thought should I bought it since the discounted this model
I recently saw one on the road and was surprised, I actually found the front end to look a lot better than I expected, especially in a all black color
That’s a face only a Mother could love.
A father
Looks like a volatile from Dying light
You can say that about almost every new Kia and Hyundai
@@vsrap71 Not really
@@vsrap71 not really because Kia and Hyundai aren’t Toyota’s
Still looks better than the new BMW front end 😂
What about the grilles from Hyundai?
that’s subjective because i think it looks great-especially in person.
Sorry, disagree. And I hate the new BMW grills.
No, it doesn't, and I can't stand the buck toothed beaver look BMW is migrating to.
@@Dave--FkTheDeepstate Lol cringe name
Love or hate the styling, what you cant argue is that this is a bad car. Is it a sports car? No, no it is not. But otherwise this is a fantastic car. The sound system is fantastic, the ride is smooth and quiet, and it is very very comfortable even in long drives, its got a good amount of room and it's been rock solid reliable. I dont regret buying one of these one bit.
Just got one, couldn’t agree more. Doug’s videos does not do this car justice whatsoever, while I haven’t driven the regular Avalon I have driven plenty of other cars to know it handles extremely impressively for the price. The V6 reliability is unmatched, which is why I bought it
I’m so sad to see the Avalon leave the Toyota lineup but I guess that will benefit the Camry and Corolla which is great! The Corolla could use a upgrade!
Can't wait for the electric camry in 2030 with a $50,000 starting price.
@@tyler4093 yeah it’s that weird cause they were all about hybrid then I would think they would be Electric at by 50%
@@tyler4093 Most manufacturers are far behind. They're developing now because they're forced to do so or forfeit.
@@tyler4093 because Toyota doesn't care about evs
@@tyler4093 Its because they never dive right into new technologies. They wait until it is good enough to their satisfaction, they have been researching evs for many years by this point. Their main goal is to transition people from gas to hybrid to plug in hybrid to fully electric.
Hands down my favorite sedan in the Toyota line up. Sad to see it go but hopefully it means the next gen camry will get more love.
It's a shame that Toyota is discontinuing this car, but I understand why. The ES and the avalon have been the same car for a long time.
Correct. The answer is always in the frame codes.
But the Avalon arguably has more high end features than even the most expensive Lexus ES
@@naveenthemachine The ES has a more premium looking interior of course because it is a lexus, but for 5 grand more I would take that instead of an avalon. Of course if I want the top trim it is going to get expensive and I understand that concern.
@@mziyad2001 the Es isn’t even available with 4 way lumbar for the passenger, sequential turn signals, heated rear seats, large lcd cluster, folding rear seats
I think the Venza actually takes the place of the Avalon, since it serves a similar "function" in the Toyota line up. (In between a RAV4 and NX, in the same way the Avalon is between a Camry and ES) Makes total sense given that the typical Avalon buyer(Old person, if we're keeping it 100) appreciates the easier entry/exit ride-height of a CUV.
The Avalon is too good of a sedan, Toyota really needs to rethink there decision about discontinuing this car.
They need to turn it into a full size sedan to replace the discontinued crown
@@yes8032 or it should become the gasoline or hybrid Mirai
@@yes8032 it is a full size sedan. I have one I’m 6’2 and don’t put the seat all the way back. Roomy as hell
Yea they should just make a wagon Avalon
@@dhanesh1355 It's definitely big. I'm 5'10" and sitting in the rear seats sure tells you how roomy it is. If I'm being honest though, I felt more comfortable in a mid-sized K5. I tried sitting in the front of a Camry with the seats in the lowest position and my head was still brushing the headliner. The Avalon has way more space but it's expensive.
Sad to see the Avalon go I really liked the Touring and Limited.
I have a 2011 Avalon in white. So luxury and smooth power and Toyota reliability. 10 yrs old only thing I done is maintenance and brakes
Love the way that generation looks.
I absolutely lost it when he said “seat belts give 5hp” hahahahahahaha
This generation avalon will forever be remembered. It's a great car.
note that the Touring edition is the only trim that has SPORT+, whereas the TRD is capped at just SPORT.
Is there really a difference?
Personally, I love the front end of the Avalon. I'm just more into the Touring trim than the TRD. It has the best combination of sporty handling and comfort.
I’ve been driving a touring as a rental for 3 weeks. It’s got decent space and basically gets you from point a-b. You can feel it has that solid and reliable Toyota build quality. Other than that the seats are not comfortable for long trips and the handling is for comfort (think Crown Victoria, Buick) not sporty. If the seats were comfortable than I would get one at a marked down price.
The red seat belt comment was absolutely hilarious 😂
Bro im a german viewer of your content and watching your videos a long time now. In my opinion this is one of the sexiest front end i have seen on cars you will never find such a design on the german competitors
I'd like to buy $50 worth of whatever it is that the Toyota and Lexus stylists are smokin...
The front end looks like the Predator when he gets pissed and screams at Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Not many buy the Avalon , not surprise at all to see it got discontinued
Almost bought one, but the TRD front end is just a bit too over the top for me.
Looks like its going to scoop up a bunch of plankton.
I love how it looks. I’d buy it immediately
It’s still a sexy looking car in person
@@Toyota4Life ya damn right it is. I’d daily that beautiful sedan. And have my lifted xB as a weekend toy
@@toyotabrony so why not buy it
Sad to see it go. People who will buy this generation will have a legendary car on their hands. It will be worth a fortune used overtime just like legendary Toyota Cressida that started the Lexus line.
My advice: get the black color. It will look like a true batmobile with the grill, which I actually like..
I took your advice.
They should turn the Avalon into a Avalon wagon like the Mazda 6 wagon in Europe, imagine a full-size wagon Avalon so much room and interior space would be sexy and make sense for a full-size !
I agree, but here’s a problem. Remember the Buick Regal Wagon?
@@Snappers1_ Problem was that it was Buick.
I think wagons aka "shooting brakes" sell well in Europe. But not in America as far as I know.
@@henrybrar i think if they get a good designer behind creating the Avalon wagon it would be appealing to the crowd and newer generation especially if they add awd in the v6 and hybrid version!
@@Dave--FkTheDeepstate Everybody is running for CUVs and SUVs these days, so many options out there that wagons don't make sense no more in the US.
I agree. The front end is just completely over styled and not in a good way. But I like the Avalon in general because they are reliable, comfortable and well equipped at 4/5 the price of a Lexus ES350. It's sad to see the Avalon go, but I'm afraid no one is going to miss it.
I'm actually a huge fan of the overstyling on this. Looks like nothing else on the road
@@Hallowsaw yeah, I love the front end of this car. Looks more eye catching and aesthetic than even the newer BMW models. It looks classy yet aggressive if that makes sense.

Now the design of this is starting growing on me, and Toyota decided to discontinue this😖

"Old people" " Old people". You're talking about the only people that can afford this car. Wise up son
Found the old person
Old ppl mad lol
Okay Boomer.
Don't be ridiculous. There are tons of affluent millennials out there, they just don't want a vehicle like this and Toyota slapping a TRD badge on it won't change that.
I really believe the Avalon would've been more successful if for not such a polarizing mug. It is a better buy than the ES350 in top trim and it is surprisingly sporty for a FWD large car. A pity Toyota didn't give it a refresh prior to killing it.
What refresh gonna do anything if both cars have exact same engine and transmission lol, if one have like turbo or some real sporty aspects than yes not same engine and paying 10 grand more for it.
@@cordinate81 forget the turbo. Yes it’s the same but we’re talkin about how the design that looks more sharper and more handsome than Lexus ES itself. There’s a difference
@@toyotabrony I will never pay 10 grand more for same car that has exact same engine and transmission like Camry and almost everything else pretty much same, cosmetic changes and toys means nothing to me but I understand ur point it's cool to each their own ofc.
@@cordinate81 Lexus has better sound insulation and thinker glass. The leather seat is nicer than Camry back then. It is definitely two similar car, but it is worth to pay extra. VW and Audi are using similar engine and transmission as well. They are not rebadge for sure.
@@imanwan2861 Killing Avalon was #1 reason so the 350 Es can sell much better. For me paying 10 grand for Avalon what is same in Camry is pointless.
My best friend bought a 2021 Limited Hybrid and it is definitely a budget Lexus. For its price point, it’s a very boujee car. One night we got 86 MPG while just cruising around for fun. Very solid vehicle👍🏻
The price of Avalons are about to go up even more now.
Avalon is going away isn't it?
Kevin bond Yeah after this year
@@thakiddmistic7610 How come?
@@Dominicreviews Because once they discontinue it they become rare plus they're reliable. Same with the discontinued Lexus Gs 350
I think its gonna go down in value. Its a full size sedan, and nobody is going to buy it unless the price goes down. They'll just get a Camry if the Avalon costs too much (which is exactly whats been happening)
The full size non luxury sedan segment is gone except for Dodge and Chrysler it makes sense they're ending production
I think it'll make a great used car 10 years from now.
Cars will be flying 10 years from now lol
So sad to see the Avalon go. But that grill...
Awwww man keep the Avalon alive!!! Loved mine 🙏🏾
I like this car in all black with the license plate in the middle of this massive grill. Black with a license plate tones down the GAPPING front end enough to make it look pretty good. Every other color forces the grill to be the life of the party.
Got one in black, which was the only acceptable color
Get a black license plate with white print like you can order in Texas and you're set.

Delete the bottom 2/3 of the grill and you will have a good looking appearance package. Toyota purposely doesn't want this to be a genuine sports sedan.

So dramatic about the front end lmaooo
Drove it. Big joke. Somebody in Toyota is on drugs with the styling. TRD big joke and as usual a Toyota waste of time and money. This car is no sports anything. The hybrid is the best model IMO.
I completely agree with The avalon's front grille and how on the TRD trim there's not enough performance instead of just appearance. I think on the front end they could have gotten more inspiration from Lexus and that would have made the front end look a lot better and under the hood at least a cold air intake could have been added along with maybe a remapping of the ECM which could have been done to make the car a little more performance oriented..
That grille is so cartoonishly exaggerated...its beautiful
Toyota absolutely ruined this generation Avalon with that front end. It doesn't make it stand out even, it just makes Toyota look like they're trying too hard. For that money, they don't even give you the upgraded sequential headlights and taillights. The interior floating stack is also nothing but hard touch plastic and no lockable glovebox.
Hyundai’s trying too hard with their design yet. Theirs is ok because they aren’t Toyota’s?
@@naveenthemachine that's for you to judge, I only mentioned Toyota.
Toyota has ruined everything. They only want to sell electric cars.

Americans think discontinued means it’s discontinued across the world because they think there’s only 1 country. Just like the lc300, it will be available worldwide for those who appreciate it.
Avalon is overpriced, a Sonata with a better interior, more features and same amount of space costs only $33k.
It’s official. The sonata has officially ended Toyota
With the Michelin MXV4 OEM tires my Mother’s 2016 is a dream to drive. Quibble if you must. Toyota went after BMW with the Avalon. Drove my Mom’s Avalon and a dealer’s 328i with tranny in “Sport” mode: rode the same to me. I own a ‘07 6 speed Mazda MX5 Sport, still runs like a top on 17”

After owning a XSE camry with the 2 Tone. Red seats. I prefer the Avalon it was super roomy and sleeker. This avalon makes up for what the camry used to be. I have 2014,2018 camrys and big difference in cabin space. The new ones shrunk alot like the Tundra and Sequoia.
Welcome to the club. Still cant get over them (Lexus) cancelling the GS, but I understand it from business point. I can't drive a fwd anymore, so ES is definitely a no no.
I am really sad to see the Avalon go but I guess one good thing that will come out of the Avalon being discontinued is the Camry will go more up market for the next redesign
Oh wow, I didn't know Toyota was killing the Avalon. Make me sad but also I suppose it makes sense. I wanted an Avalon in 2019 but it sort of made no sense to me as it shares the same engine as the ES and the Camry, and the Camry had the pano sunroof.
I hope they put shift some of the luxury to the Camry in their new lineup next year.
Avalon will always be the best car to buy before jumping into luxury makers.
Front grille is so clownishly massive it looks like the cars missing the front bumper altogether from a distance.
Chicken wire everywhere.
They could’ve given it just a thicker lower chin, color matching ground effects and it would’ve came out much better.
I love it
That face....only a mother could love.
Car companies should design the smallest grill possible, not the biggest grill possible. When will the tiresome grill cancer fad end?
I think the big grill began with luxury vehicles like the Rolls & Bentley, then the Germans adopted it too, followed by Toyota who was the Johnny come lately to the party.
Only Audi makes sexy grill
