    So I have a ‘20 model of this and I have to say, it is one of the best handling cars I have been in. Super crisp and intuitive if you want to play on the twisties in the the mountain or run n the open road. It may not be the fastest, but it will hold its speed in a turn. And it’s also great for road tripping and carrying a lot of gear in the boot.

    What's important is everyone who has one is in love with the car. I bought one and it's great. I see an ES at every light and their mouths drop looking at the Toyota. Paid 35k 10,000 miles.

      I have to assume that most people forgot all Avalons existed sice Toyota is discontinuing them, which is a shame because this is the best the Avalon has ever been IMO, across all trim levels. Thanks for watching, Mitch B!

    Once again, another great review.
    Another year, another relatable vehicle from the 90’s is heading off into the horizon. The few people I knew who owned them marveled over their reliability.
    What I’ve noticed now is people mentioning the price & decided to buy sportier, less reliable cars (BMW & Audi).

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  2 года назад +1

      It'll be a shame to see this one go. T.j. Hanna. It drives well, but sometimes people are willing to gamble a bit with reliability to satiate their emotions. I've definitely been there from time to time. 😂 Thanks for watching!

    Loose the red lines and get some bigger sidewall tires, and you might have a nice sleeper car.
    The Avalon has been around for a long time.
    My Dad almost bought one to replace his 1985 Caprice Classic with the Police Package.
    Now there was a sleeper! Red with Red Vinyl roof.
    I smoked a VW GTI with it. He was right there in my rear view rowing gears! 😂
    No Replacement for Displacement! 350 V8!
    Good video as always!

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 года назад +3

      If you're just talking about drag racing, a basic V6 Avalon would be a perfect sleeper, Torsee. No need to change tires or racing stripes. 😅 But in all seriousness, I'm sorry to see the Avalon go. It was 85% Lexus ES for only a bit more money than a Camry. And IMO, it drives better than an ES. Oh, well. Times are changing so I need to find a good V8 to hide in the garage before it's too late. Thanks for watching!

    I just got a 2019 XSE AND It’s comfortable, looks sporty and great, powerful, but handling in turns a bit scary! I don’t even push it close to the limits but I had a 2015 Durango and even with a higher center of gravity, felt more secure on curves! That’s why I’m looking at the TRD maybe I can use that suspension etc. Thanks for the nice review…

    Great Review. I am not surprised that the Avalon is on its way out. The price has gotten too close to a Lexus ES with the the Lexus dealership experience.
    Also the only large sedans that truly sell in high numbers are the Charger and Challenger.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 года назад

      Yeah, there's definitely been a bit of "rubbing elbows" in the product line lately. Both in features and price. It's a shame the Avalon couldn't survive. The close proximity to the ES is possibly what makes it which a good car. Thanks for watching, canonlybeme4life!

      Even though the Avalon has been discontinued, it was a fairly popular car so Toyota should continue to carry parts for it for quite a few years. That being said, only you can decide if you should purchase the car, taking it's value and selling price in your area into consideration. Good luck! The Avalon is/was a great car.

    Great review as always, and for the most part it’s a pretty sweet car. But as far as looks… I can’t stand the gigantic black “grille” that a lot of Toyota’s & Lexus’s have. I don’t know why they keep leaning into that fascia; it’s not all air intake and frankly pretty hideous. Just wish they’d move on to something more subtle - Toyota has had that as a signature look for their line for years, now.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, large grilles are definitely the Toyota/Lexus trademark right now. I've gotten used to them now so they don't offend me the way they used to. But overall, this Avalon TRD is a nice car and the Avalon, in general, is too. I'm sorry to see it go. Thanks for watching!

      @@tomasnordin9778 Typically, it ends up being because of sales, although we don't currently have a definitive answer. Guess the Avalon got too good for its health and was infringing on the Lexus ES. We don't know for sure, but maybe it will be revived as a full EV in the future.

    Toyota had hoped that the boomer slogan that "60 is the new 40" would help the Avalon cope with its major weakness, the average age of its owners. And the TRD variant was added to in the hope that the actual forty somethings could be enticed to give the Avalon a try. Didn't work. Covid no doubt played a part. So now the Avalon is off to heaven to join a substantial number of folks who owned them. Too bad. The Avalon and their owners deserved a better fate.
