I was born and raised in London of Irish parents and was never allowed to be in any doubt that all things Irish were best and that I had to be rabidly and passionately Irish. I left London aged 40 and have lived in Ireland ever since (20 years). In those last 20 years my rabid Irishness has not abated but my love for London has blossomed beyond belief too. It's a phenomenal place to visit and gives me a thrill every time. I experience feelings I never had in the years of living there. The woman that said hello in the tunnel just might have been a Londoner - one that's travelled and realises it's possible to say hello to strangers without being considered weird.
A pal bought us tickets to land at city with their massive Air Miles stash. It was a rough day too. Impressive stuff. The Greenwich foot tunnel was a treat teamed with the Cutty Sark every summer as a south London boy.
I also have a tunnel thing Scott . Done the Thames and Clyde tunnels . My favourite is the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg. You must give it a try if you visit that great City. Love the videos . Keep them coming.
@@steve-marsh correct, that’s what I did a few years ago. You get a couple of hours on Barra. As I remember it was about half the price of the normal scheduled return fare. It was a wonderful experience. I think they still do them post pandemic but I don’t think they run in the summer,
Nice little video Scott! Three simple but engrossing things to do in the heart of old London town. Won't cost an arm or a leg, won't take up much of your day. Won't cause any stress at all, in fact could be most relaxing.
Fantastic video as usual. Have you visited the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg? Would highly recommend that one. Done my own wee bucket list trip to London this weekend. Caledonian sleeper from Glasgow to Euston, visits to Tottenham and London stadiums and then the 97 bus to Leyton Orient. Also a couple of short trips on a class 395 Javelin to/from Stratford International. All in a scorching 35 degrees. Pity all northbound trains were cancelled on Friday evening!
Just feeding your tunnelophilia...check out St Anna's pedestrian tunnel in Antwerp which is a 1930s icon and very similar to the Greenwich tunnel you featured...and it's in Belgium...phenomenal beer...and frites...what could go wrong!!!?
Shame the passenger tunnel under the Clyde is no longer operational but you can have dinner in the northern rotunda! I think Scott should add Oban to Colonsay or Coll to his aviation bucket list.
Well done I operate CCTV over the London docks you went on the cable car over Victoria dock and walked through the tunnel that I go through to get to work but do try London city airport it's excellent they treat their customers really well and when you come off the train straight on to the Docklands light railway
Sunset on the cable cars is awesome, done it last year with my oldest when we went to Stamford Bridge for his 18th birthday. Amazing view of the city going into London City that morning. Also have you ever done the Loch Lomand tours on the water planes? They are cool too.
Was only in Woolwich just yesterday. Went to London to tick the Elizabeth line off the bucket list. Ticked off two free museums and went to the Garden on top of Canary Wharf Station.
I would be so scared to take a cable car. Thanks for showing it to us! The tunnel looks tight, i think i'll stick to bridges. Thanks for the video, scott.
I am surprised our intrepid traveller did not do the Greenwich tunnel either. You could walk one way and then return by DLR. The cable car is worth a trip. View down on O2 and Thames is fantastic especially on a sunny day. Trouble is when you get north of the river there is little to do!
Great video Been on cable car and foot tunnel in the past I also did the boat ride Greenwich to Westminster. Fully agree great places to see in London. Regards. Paul
You can cross the Thames 3 times by foot tunnel.Start in North Woolwich through the tunnel to Woolwich walk to Greenwich and then through the Greenwich Tunnel, walk to Tower Hamlets and through the Rotherhithe Tunnel to Rotherhithe. The Rotherhithe is the worst of the 3 as you share it with motor vehicles. As far as I know the only other river foot tunnel in England is the Tyne Foot Tunnel from Jarrow to Willington Quay.
Hi Scott, really enjoying your footage. Flew into London City from Belfast City treated myself to British Airways for working in nhs admin in my local hospital in February and its an amazing airport- ideal for me being a female solo autistic traveller and a travel and tourism college graduate Staff were friendly and amazing. Flew back with a slight delay but British Airways were great
I took my very first trip to London(a solo traveler)last month, took a night Uber to Greenwich, got lost and found myself in that tunnel near midnight. I had no idea how to get back to the other side or if I'd be trapped down there. It was a bit scary, but what an experience it was!
There is another foot tunnel in Greenwich next to the Cutty Sark. Were you at that one? The Woolwich tunnel is a few miles further down next to Woolwich Ferry.
I have done 2 of the 3 and plan to do the dangleway at the end of August. I also need to do the new Woolwich ferry, new section of the Northern Line and the Liz Line, again in August. I agree there is always something to do in London.
I grew up less than 2 miles from North Woolwich in Newham, no Thames clipper or Emirates Air back then! Come to think of it, no City of London Airport either! 🤣 Still live on the river just now in Essex. So not too far away. I’ve been on, through or over the river in London over the year but now there is one more I need to complete the set, the Lizzy line, think it was open so you missed a trick there, Custom House is one stop up on the DLR and you could have done 4 in just over 2 hours!
Done two of those, never done the Woolwich tunnel, I preferred the free ferry - a lovely way to get across. That tunnel looks very similar to the Tyne Tunnel though
The Woolwich Tunnel which Scott sampled is grim. It's really just a back-up for when the ferry isn't running. Greenwich Tunnel has been spruced up as it's used by lots of tourists bound for Island Gardens (from where you have a great view of Greenwich and the Observatory). There's also DLR at Island Gardens so tourists can easily head back to Central London (without returning to Greenwich).
Nice video, showing how to get tickets (e.g can you use your Oyster Card?) and the cost would be useful. PS Just as I was typing this you gave the cost of the cable car.
I agree, a tunnel under the Thames (pretty sure I ended up doing the greenwich tunnel which is larger), some form of ferry and the cable car should be on everyone's london bucket list. Rather surprised you didn't include a ride on the London eye and a boat trip to the Thames barrier. Recently I rode on the new Thameslink from Blackfriars and hence completed my bucket list of London. I did 8 items in total including the tour of the Greenwich royal observatory and riding the DLR from end to end! Next London related bucket list item for me is to ride the Elizabeth line from end to end
Love your videos. But your written intro says Greenwich Tunnel and it's not - it's the Woolwich one. The Greenwich Tunnel starts from the Royal Naval College and is in a really interesting area of London.
Did you know you could have made a free fourth crossing using the Woolwich Ferry (one of the two vessels, The Dame Vera Lynn, can be seen moored up along the Thames at 4:51 ). Look forward to you doing the flight into Barra (and maybe a curry at the tiny Kismet Cafe in Castlebay?!)
A tunnel, a ferry and a cable car? Sydney - train to the ferry wharf through tunnels, ferry across the harbour to the zoo and cable car to the top of the zoo.
So how long until you visit the various suspension railways dotted around Germany (mostly in the Rhein -Ruhr area) and I've flown into/out of London City twice and the view is amazing... If the weather is good
That creature that ran behind you at 6:50 looked a lot like a kangaroo, but I am guessing it was just a large and rather bouncy dog. Then again London is weird. Anything is possible
Love your bucket lists and timetable challenges, please keep them coming! I'll be doing my Scotland bucket list the week after next (strikes permitting, but it's looking promising) Bo'ness, Strathspey, Keith & Dufftown & Caledonian. Sadly my lack of filming/youtube skills preclude sharing the experience.

You can always tell a Scotsman in London, by the jacket in case it rains! 👍🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Remember doing the tunnel with my Great Uncle and Aunt with my brother's donkeys years ago brings back a lot of happy memories.
Numerous ways of going under, along and over the Thames, your choices were brilliant 😎
I really enjoyed the woolwich foot tunnel too . I even went back down again because I fascinated me . Brilliant video Scott 👍
three things I wish to do next time I get to London. Thanks for bringing us along
Great things ticked off the bucket list!!

I also have a tunnel thing Scott . Done the Thames and Clyde tunnels . My favourite is the Elbe tunnel in Hamburg. You must give it a try if you visit that great City. Love the videos . Keep them coming.
I agree about Barra. Its a strange landing at London City depending on which way the wind is blowing.
Loganair do some pretty decent day returns to Barra for £70 odd quid - I think you need to phone them, not always published on website

Amazing views from the “cable car” . Well done ! … as you are wont to say in the UK. Thanks for taking us along.

I went under the Thames last year from the Cutty Sark ship across.
Nice one, now all that’s left to do is swim in the Thames, drink from the Thames and fish in the Thames 👍🏼🤣😉
Just feeding your tunnelophilia...check out St Anna's pedestrian tunnel in Antwerp which is a 1930s icon and very similar to the Greenwich tunnel you featured...and it's in Belgium...phenomenal beer...and frites...what could go wrong!!!?
You could try the Rotherhithe Tunnel, then the Thames Ferry to London Bridge Wharf then cross the river over the Millenium Footbridge.
I wouldn't recommend walking the Rotherhithe tunnel it's noisy and polluted by vehicles.
@@alexlangford6291 im fully aware of that but i dont think you can walk the Blackwell tunnel which would be almost suicide

Scott. You must do a film on the Elizabeth line one of these days.
I have walked to London City from Woolwich Arsenal before on business trips. The takeoff and landings are interesting.
I'm hoping to experience the Dangle Way at some point soon. 🙂

While you were there you could have walked over the O2. I did it in May

I did the Greenwich tunnel many years ago it was wider , lighter and had security guards to deter the skate boarders!
I am surprised our intrepid traveller did not do the Greenwich tunnel either. You could walk one way and then return by DLR. The cable car is worth a trip. View down on O2 and Thames is fantastic especially on a sunny day. Trouble is when you get north of the river there is little to do!
