Beautiful video! Love those little cute fish coming out of the mud! This island city is really fantastic!. The Catholic church at the top of the hill is so romantic and the temple spectacular. Wow delicious vegetarian buffet! Thank you Katherine for showing us this beautiful place. Take care 🪻💕🍀
Aysajan is just a big kid full of curiosity😂As I know, they've been breeding salmon in Xinjiang for several years, in some sort of farms under the mountains, similar to those in New Zealand. When I was student, I spent a weekend in the mount Putuo, one of the best, a life experience, young and fearless, sitting on the beach through the night and waiting for the sunset. the view is breathtaking, and the ambience is just memorable. Just want to be there again some day! 10:51, the guy sitting in the mini tent🤣
Katherine sees China as her second hometown. I have watched almost all the videos. She gets herself totally involved in our society. She lets me learn a lot what I never have a chance to access!
What a beautiful bustling spot! Well worth the trip I think. China is great when you head off the beaten path - like you did finding a cool spot like a park to explore 😊
Katherine, you deserve to know the actual name for "the little creatures on the roofs" since you are so into them! They are called 脊兽 in architecture. The exact type and the number of them followed a strict rule depending on the social status of the building - imperial buildings that are directly used by the imperor can have up to 9 of them, while his extended family can have up to 7. If I'm not mistaken, temples can have up to 5 but there could be exceptions to this in remote areas where “天高皇帝远” was more prevalent :P

This is so "Hong Kong", with the fishing villages and boat people, hundred year old Catholic churches and even older Buddhism temples coexist peacefully. Beaches and mountains. Peoples from all walks of life. You help me to appreciate my hometown so much more.
OMG, catching another of your interesting videos just 2 minutes after you uploaded it. Your mastery of the Chinese language is an inspiration for me. There are loads mudskippers on mudflats when the tide goes out in my old hometown. The Tanka people (Sea Gypsies) of Hong Kong are superstitious folks. When they flip over a fish to get to the flesh underneath, they say "Next door's!" meaning the neighbour's boat!😂 So, did the captain of the sinking boat go down with it??

When I was a child, I liked to go to the fish selling area in the market. It was like an aquarium, and some bosses even allowed me to touch their crabs. My parents asked me to go to the market with them to buy groceries after school, and I always spend time negotiating with them about whether to go to the fish selling area today. For a long time, my parents thought I loved to eat fish very much.
@@kats_journey_east Haha, Lobster. My cousin and I once discussed who would win if Lobster and Crab got into a fight, but so far there has been no result. Happy Mid-Autumn Festival.😆
Fun story about those little creatures on roofs (8:35). I think they are called 屋脊六兽 which roughly translates into "six creatures on the edge of roofs". When I was a little kid, whenever my grandpa saw me sitting around doing nothing, he'll say that I look as idle as the 屋脊六兽. So now, whenever I see those creatures, grandpa always comes to mind. I've never been to Zhoushan & Putuo and very much hope to visit some time. Thanks for another great video!
As someone who absolutely loves seafood, yes, this fish market is totally a paradise. Love the humor at the beginning of the video, even though it was based on a boat actually sinking!
The Buddha Island is definitely a must-visit place. All the vegetarian meals are tasty, strongly recommend the one in Putuo Temple. I visited the island in the fall and was amazed by the delicious tangerines grown there. They were the best I've ever tasted!
the tide used to submerge the mud flats along the Fuchun river, and those mud fish would all line up and walk across the road to the nearest rice field. some of them contributed to our seafood porridge.
when you are visiting PuTuo Shan, the best thing you will do is swiming and floating in the ocean. The water is warm and salty so you can even sleep and swim for hours without being afraid of sinking.

China’s commitment to little guys on their buildings is unmatched, I have just as much fun spotting them in your videos as you do :) I’m sure it’s a very interesting experience to see Christian churches in the East, love seeing how their architectural style is so similar yet entirely different from those here in the west.

From the end of the Ming Dynasty, when Catholicism was introduced into China, there were many religious fishermen in the south of the Yangtze River and along the coast.

Thanks for taking us on a trip to this obscure unheard of but very interesting island. From Wikipedia: The transportation condition in Zhoushan has been improved largely during recent years, especially after the opening of Zhoushan Trans-Oceanic Bridges in 2009, which established a stable corridor connecting to the continent and converted Zhoushan into a peninsula per se. Due to geographical isolation, Zhoushan is the only one of the municipalities in Zhejiang Province which is not served with rail transportation.
