    I've had a Model Y RWD for a year. Have covered 16k miles and done a ton of longer road trips. Bottom line, it's superb. Charging at home off-peak at 8p kWh is less than 2p per mile coupled with no servicing costs. Tesla charging network simply works. Quiet, smooth, FAST, full of tech. It's the ultimate gadget.

  • @gadgetboy38
    @gadgetboy38 6 месяцев назад +11

    We have the previous version and it's a brilliant car. We have had it for just under 3 years and travelled nearly 40k miles and it's been faultless. We drove it around
    Wales on the first year we bought the car and while there aren't loads of chargers we were never worried about running out of juice.
    I would suggest not getting the white seats; they stain very easily, especially from your jeans.

    Took one for a test drive as was interested in what an EV was like to drive. Ordered a M3SR 2 weeks later. Really pleased with it, perfect for my 70 miles per day commute but also big enough to use for family trips. Granted they aren't for everyone but if it fits you for a particular use then they are very impressive. Taking us all on a family jaunt to northern Scotland in August to really test this charging on the go out, see if I can get frustrated with it because so far the Tesla superchargers are amazingly simple, reliable and quick to use.

    • @StusReviewsUK

      The supercharging network is top notch! Just a couple more needed in places like mid wales, and Tesla will be on the way to total domination!

    I have the previous version and love it. It's not perfect, a bit noisy (fixed in the new version), the back lights mist up (normal according to the manual) and the boot lids is on a bit wonky, But despite that, it's not had a single issue in 3 years, is amazing fun to drive, and in the summer does 5 miles for 7p and 4 miles in the winter.

    I test drove one the other week. The lack of controls is surprisingly intuitive. When I first got in, I was worried that I was going to be annoying a lot of other road users fumbling to indicate and so on. But nope, the only challenge I had was the cruise control. There is a dedicated button but you actually need to press the right scroll wheel in. Other than that surprisingly it is easy.

    You say you need to go back to driving school if you need to select the indicators with the steering wheel upside down. I suggest if you never select indicators when leaving a roundabout then you need to go back to driving school. Selecting indicators whilst the steering wheel is upside down is difficult to do without taking your eyes off the road. With stalks it is much easier, so much so that after market add-on stalks are now being marketed for the new Model 3. This oversight by Tesla is partly caused because there are virtually no roundabouts in the USA.

    I was probably just unlucky as it was one of the last UK cars to come from the USA (I hear the China built ones were better) but the number of faults and component failures were ridiculous.
    I really like the Highland refresh changes but not sure I would return to the brand. I know this seems for some reason to be a divisive opinion but Tesla's continued steadfast attitude not to support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is baffling and having used a car with it.... it's become a must have for me.
    Also dropping the sensors in favour of camera only.... I really hope the software is improved now as for many it didnt work and when a camera fogs up or is soaked with heavy rain it obviously fails and thats a big concern.

    Tesla vehicles are notorious for quality control and safety issues man.
    I know it seems crazy, but Hyundai -- specifically the Ioniq 5 -- has destroyed the EV market here in the states the last two years because they actually know how to make cars, and there's a bunch of other car makers that make safe cars in both EV and performance EV options.
    I'll admit the new 2024 update of the Model 3 looks nicer than the old ones, but please do yourself and your family a favor and test some other options before you commit to one of Elon's pretty-looking death boxes.

    • @StusReviewsUK
      @StusReviewsUK  6 месяцев назад +1

      Haha, I wouldn’t call them death boxes… they have some of the highest safety scores around (by all accounts).
      On the other point - I love the ioniq 5, really nice design… and if Hyundai ever release an EV with the N Vision 74 design they showcased, I’ll be selling my feet pictures again.

    • @DJSwitchPDX
      @DJSwitchPDX 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@StusReviewsUK They keep teasing us the N Vision 74 is on its way, but I wouldn't hold out for the hydrogen version. I'd be perfectly happy with an electric myself ... that thing is incredible.
      As for the Tesla, I'm not a fan of the company or the man, but I do hope the UK experience has been better than it has been here. I grew up with a buddy that ended up on their software/security team at their office in California, and between his experience internally, the gull doors getting stuck open on the older versions of the X, the door and body panels that don't align on past versions of the 3, and the accelerator pedals getting physically stuck at 100% on the Cybertrucks, I don't have any trust left in their quality control.
      It's clear you and your family enjoyed your experience with this new Model 3, so I apologize for raining on the parade a bit, but I'm a fan of your work and I'll be around for future videos either way.

      @DJSwitchPDX haha no rain taken - I hear you! Everyones opinion is important 👍
      I also read that feedback too in reviews of past models, but re widespread issues i certainly think that because Tesla appeal to an audience that are much more likely to vocalise problems with their cars on social media… you hear it more often! Might be wrong, but I’m sure there’s a correlation!

      To many gadgets to go wrong, and have you seen the price of a 12 volt battery, yet alone the main battery, if you ever need one, but mainly how poor the charging (if you can't charge at home) infrastructure is, and the extra time and cost if going on a long journey.

      Yeah i agree - living in wales the charging infrastructure is less than ideal, and especially costly. I'd only every recommend an EV to anyone who can charge at home.
      And yes, there are a lot of gadgets to go wrong, but unfortunately i think thats the case with all modern vehicles (ICE and EV)! Even ICE cars are mostly electrics these days 😂

      @@David.W.KelseyThe range on the motorway in my Kona EV is far greater than that of a: my toddlers patience and b: my bladder! I can only speak for the A1 but the motorway charging has improved greatly over the last year!
      Have to agree with you on the cost of public charging though, it's ridiculously expensive compared to my basic electric tariff!

      @@David.W.Kelsey as this review is of a Tesla you should see the availability of Tesla chargers… they’re in most major routes they’re fast and they cheap (usually 40-50p). So a quick pit stop to take a leak and it’s charged for a tenner or so.
      And that’s if you even need to as the LR stu reviewed will go a long long way without needing to charge.
      The battery has an 8 year warranty so no worries for most buying a new highland.
      If you can charge at home going EV is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to drive.

      There are plenty of creators who don’t have a Tesla… but you can’t deny that they appeal tech enthusiasts with the very current consumer tech style experience… hence why a lot of tech creators like them, so IMO it isn’t that much of a surprise at all.
      Also, my love of Tesla doesn’t stop me loving petrol cars! My TT is still excellent fun to drive.
