You inspired me to go early morning shelling to catch low tide. I was visiting Sanibel a few weeks ago and hit the beach at 6:30 am! I was the only crazy person out there in the dark. But it was the best shelling day in my whole two week visit!
Wow! 😮 I’ve never found a pair of angel wings and lucky you found so many. Congratulations! Thank you so much for making these videos. I’m unable to come to the beach and shell due to illness so I enjoy shelling vicariously through your lovely videos very much.
In 40 + years of shelling I have never seen the angel wings in pairs, how special. I am sorry I cannot help with the unidentified bivalve, you have so many in SW that we don't have up here in the NE. Being an almost lifelong Floridan, I can't deal with the cold either. I hope your Holidays were lovely and I wish you a happy healthy new year.
Omgg I’m a news reporter here in SWFL and I went to Bunche beach for the first time last week! I did a story on a big sailboat still abandoned in the mangroves after the hurricanes. A really interesting beach!
The angel wings are amazing! Now I know what to look for, but not holding my breath on finding them that way! Super cool! Also, I love the tiny piles! Very fun beach day! Thank you for bringing us along on your adventures!
The angel wing pairs were awesome! And to find so many! Incredible! Late watching the video today cause I’m actually in your back yard!! Not literally of course, but I’m in fort myers right now! Tried to go out with Ali this morning. I was soooo looking forward to it. But the captain cancelled last minute due to weather and I was up at 3:00 am and drove down and found out when I got there! 😢 luckily another tour had room for me so I was really happy. It was rainy and windy. We were all soaked to the bone! We went to dickmans and did do pretty well there were literally thousands of sunray Venus everywhere. Then I went to south Marco since 15 min away and did pretty good. Then when I drove back to fort myers and checked into my hotel and left again to try my luck at fort myers beach. I found a few things. Made it past the pier you always pass and I was about 1/2 mile from the building you go around but had to haul it back cause it got dark. I found about 10 little tiny sand dollars and because I forgot my container only 3 made it. Tomorrow keewadin with Hemingway. 🤞🤞🤞
Bunche Beach was the only place I also found angel wing pairs. It has been many years so I am happy that you found so many. I use straight bleach to get them white.
Good morning, my darling Beach Angel! So glad to hear you finally got your pairs of wings! I can hardly wait to see them all mounted in a beautiful shadow box to hang on your wall! So, let's go to the beach! Got my SWF Beach Life t-shirt on and I'm ready to go! I love a critter day! There are so many interesting animals to see in the tide pools! Thanks for letting me go walking with you at Bunche Beach! It was so much fun! Much love from your Lost Mermaid
My goodness....sea stars having a hydraulic system!! You always have fascinating things to teach us, Sharmon! Happy New Year, my friend. I hope 2025 is a wonderful year for you and yours!
Thank you for your videos! I really enjoy them! I love how you talk about the shells and creatures you come across! Living in IL, I can’t travel to a beach much. The angel wings are beautiful! I’d love to see you clean them up totally, make an art piece out of the pairs you found! I can see it, blue skies w clouds, a sweet saying or poem, something about lost loved ones in a white frame.
Wow! What a day! The only shells my mom purchased for us when I was a child was a pair of angel wings. They were tastefully framed with a lovely blue velvet background. We live on the east coast. So there was no chance of finding them here. While we were all learning about the pear whelk egg casing, it looked like there were two wentle traps at the bottom. (12:31). I hope not because it would mean your loss but it fun to look with you while you attend to other business. Happy shelling!
How great 👍 on the Angels 😇.!!!We have a lot of them on the TX Coast and I have only found one pair of with the dead critter kinda keeping them hinged.I like yours so much better! My ONLY was Stinky!
I wanted to let you know my family was here in Naples over the holiday and we found some good finds, a couple of rose murex on South beach on Marco and a Scotch Bonnet as well by the jetty.we also did a Shelling tour with Sand Dollar Shelling on Christmas day, and we also took Hemming way shuttle as well.We were hoping to see you out and about. Love your videos!
Dear Sharmon, What a great find to see all those angel wing pairs. I counted 10 in total when you extracted them from their place. WOW!!!❤ I was curious: how can you tell which egg casing it is? To me, they all look quite similar. All those little hermit crabs were so cool, and that seastar was amazing. The poor dude just needed some water to get his body going again. I hope your Christmas was amazing, and I wish you a wonderful New Year's Eve. May 2025 be an amazing year for your channel! That it may grow, and more Patreons are going to support your lovely channel! As always, sending lots of love and hugs, xoxo ❤ Ilona
You can actually see the tiny bitty shells in the casing. When I was a kid on the TX Coast,we would chase each other with dry shell casings and pretend they were rattlesnake 😅 because when dry they do rattle 😮
What an interesting discovery with those wings!! I think digging up a peek-a-boo shell is most fascinating. So many treasures are buried. Wish we could see through the sand at times. Have a Happy New Year playing in the sands🎉🎉🎉❤
This was a wonderful trip!! So many angel wing pairs. I never knew they buried themselves like that. Was the animal eaten, died, or she'd its old shell for a new one? Loved perusing the tinies before you picked up what you were after. I might be tempted to keep tweezers in my pocket to help pick up the tinies. Don't think you missed any wentletraps. GREAT WALK. Thx for taking us along. ❤
If I had to guess, I suspect the animals all died at the same time. They were not big mature ones, but hard to say what killed them. But nothing, and I mean nothing goes to waste at the beach. There are scavengers everywhere!
OMG! I can't believe you found so many of those complete angel wings!!! Hmmm... I always bleach angel wings and haven't had problems with them. BUT I dilute the bleach so maybe that's why. I found a good size strawberry cockle today!! Don't have many of those. Thanks, Sharmon! xxoo
Happy New Year!! ❤ I hope your Christmas 🎄 was nice! I think the Angle Wings brightened, up a lot. I would get New soft & medium bristle toothbrushes 🪥 & use that, to hit the dirty spots! I would brush them under water to get a little bit of water movement to help swish it clean. That's my thought 🤔 I loved seeing the critters! The Hermie's are so cute! It's funny how they hang out together! That was a peaceful walk on the beach. I couldn't believe you found a water pipe connection. With all the Hurricanes nothing should be a surprise! Right? Still made me laugh, it makes me wonder how far & where it traveled from to end up, on the beach. Not, that we will ever know! It just makes me wonder! 😅 Congratulations! That's an impressive amount of garbage for one year! Thank you for all the beach adventure❤Have a nice Day 😊🎉🎉🎉
I visited this beach after Hurricane Ian and there was PART OF A HOUSE up on the beach there. It was crazy!!! Like an entire top part of a home floated across the bay onto Bunche. It is amazing what washes up!
WOW I love the angel wings!! That was awesome to find them in pairs. If you would have taken the beige crown conchs would the color have come back after soaking in bleach? Hope you have a awesome New Years! See you next Sunday! XOXO
Love the angel wings. I found quite a few single angel wings on Middle Gulf Dr. in Sanibel in October. I was so excited. I just put them in my shell bag and when I got home only 3 were undamaged. I guess I should have put them in my plastic container. 😢 I think my heavy FFC shells may have moved around and damaged them. Happy New Year! 🎉🎉
I've found the smaller angel wings aren't as sturdy as the adult versions and quite a few have broken in my shell bag as well. I now put the smaller ones in my delicates container. Live and learn! I hope you have a Happy New Year as well!
I love your channel you are so lucky so I have shell limestone gravel and I like to shell in it and I found a baby rose murex that was cool but anyways have an awesome week
There are hinged false angel wings and other types, but you won't find a pair of hinged true angel wings. The animals keeps the pair of shells together.
I love Fort Meyers Beach yay!! Bunch Beach was crawling with critters and looks like a place I'd love to explore when the tide goes out with all of those tide-pools! Happy Holidays Sharmon!! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas!! Oh right quick question, did i hear you say you were able to quit your full-time job?? I thought I heard you say something like that but now im not sure what i thought I heard! lol thank you soooo very much for sharing your trip to Bunch Beach !!💜💙🩵❄️❄️⛄️⛸️🩶🤍🎄🦌❤
One of my favorite days is Sundays and your video's. So relaxing and I learn at the same time. :) Do you plan to sell a set of the Angel wings in your shop? They are beautiful and amazing. Wow, that Sunrise. Beautiful. Love those Rose petal telons. Lot's of garbage. That is awesome. What a great day. Thank you. :)
But you have so much fun doing it. And I have so much fun watching. I went to Naples last year and was able to ID some shells from what I learned from you. Went to Marco island, but not at the right time. So only found a few. I feel like I missed out. So I will keep shell hunting with you. Thanks for all your videos.
@SWFBeachLife Patience, Sweetie. Overnight soaking. Even cleans golf clubs, tools, etc. With rusty tools, you have to keep changing the vinegar. It's amazing what it does. Love, Sis.
I have those shells, which I found at Alligator Point Beach on the Forgotten Coast of Florida. One winter, there were lots and lots of molted Horseshoe crab shells. I've seen dolphins feeding there also. Like your beach, it's a remote beach that only local residents and people in the know, go there. The beach is often cut off from access, as any bad storm coming ashore there will wash out the road. I have jars and jars of shells that I've collected from all over Florida. My best finds were the Angel Wings and the Kitten's Paws. What do you do with your shells?
If I had boat, I would need to rent out a storage locker!! I get asked about my collection a lot, and my inner hoarder and inner minimalist are at odd a lot! I make a video every year about my collection and here is the one from last year: ruclips.net/video/5vq9DJbCJDA/видео.htmlsi=UsnaEM_Goq2QLO08
Hello! I enjoy watching you very much! I also collect seashells and organize them. But don’t have that many because I live in Indiana and when I travel, I always get some if I have the luxury of being in a place that there are plenty of shells. So what do you do with all your shells?
I keep most of my shells in glass jars, bowls and containers, but since I get this question so much, I just make a video about my collection: ruclips.net/video/5vq9DJbCJDA/видео.htmlsi=UsnaEM_Goq2QLO08
Thank you for teaching me "mesoplax" 😃 I wonder if that is what us casual collectors call the "scoop" on the inside of the shells. Yes, most of them had them but many broken when I was trying to get all the sand and mud off them.
@@SWFBeachLife . A little shelly piece known as mesoplax helps with the rocking movements during burrowing. The shell in the images was collected by Dale V. Stingley in April 1948, on Captiva.
Girl…. You hit the angle wing lotto that day… many many years ago I found a pair with the animal so we had to leave it there… but exciting all the same… as for fighting conchs… back in the 70s/80s when we frequented Sanibel we always went to Captiva to find the crown conchs… the water was a bit rougher there and where the waves broke we would find them … as always it seemed like different years we’d find a lot of a certain species… but try there
@ I guess after all the storms in recent years so many things have changed on the island. 🏝️ I’m really wanting to get back down there and shell… last time I was there was 2004… being a paraplegic I always have to rent a beach chair when I come down there… it just complicates things… but I’ll be down there soon 🤞
@@stephaniemccoy6562 I’m glad you know where to rent from! I found a guy for someone years ago just in case 😃 And Lovers Key has free push wheelchairs!
@@SWFBeachLife looking in my FL shell book I was thinking maybe the lucine (my book only shows me buttercups) or disinia but the channeled duck clam looks more spot on. My book doesn't me the sizes they grow though. I have a new book coming in the mail soon with more details for FL shells : )
I found a live angel wing once and for the life of me, I can't find the video of it. I'm going to keep looking! I did try my UV light on my angel wings and they do not glow. Whomp whomp.
You inspired me to go early morning shelling to catch low tide. I was visiting Sanibel a few weeks ago and hit the beach at 6:30 am! I was the only crazy person out there in the dark. But it was the best shelling day in my whole two week visit!

It's like a live touch tank 😂 After Hurricane Ian I saw an entire room from the North end of FMB had washed up onto this beach!
I loved seeing why the Angel Wings cannot be put back together as a pair like other bi-valves. Have a Happy and Blessed New Year!
The angel wings are amazing! Now I know what to look for, but not holding my breath on finding them that way! Super cool! Also, I love the tiny piles! Very fun beach day! Thank you for bringing us along on your adventures!
I hope you find some! It was such a lucky day for me.
Amazing find with those angel wings! Great video, see you next week.
Thanks for removing the garbage.
I have one pair of Angel Wings that came together on a similar low tide experience. Great finds for you!
It’s such a great feeling to find them together, isn’t it?!
The paired angel wings were so special! I'm yearning to come back to SWFL, and I hope I can come back soon!
Goodness me that was a lot of pairs of angel wings. Very peaceful beach. Hugs and stay safe xx

I have to commend you on the amount of garbage you've removed from the beach...I mean...Wow! And how cool to find those angel wings too!
Thank you!! I actually can not walk past garbage - I have to pick it up so I guess my compulsion is a good thing 😂
@@maggieslifeisawildride512 yes! I love that you collect the garbage and that you encourage others to do it too!
That crab in the beginning was likely just the exoskeleton. The crab molted it and scampered away and that’s why it’s such a pale color.
You finally got your angel wings; for the shell angel! Very cool!
Wing-a-palooza! How cool! 🎉👍🏻
I went on holiday last May to Spain just over the border of Portugal, I found loads of smaller Angel wings , astonishing 😊
Glad to see Baunch is open again when we left in November it was closed.
Yes, Milton closed it for a while. Again.
Always love walking and finding shells with you Sharman. Don’t ever stop!
Awesome pairs of Angel Wings !! I enjoyed the chance to look for Wentletraps ! Can't wait to be shelling FMB in March ! Thanks again !!

For the tiny white bubbles shells, Google lens says it is an Arctic barrel bubble
See...I'm thinking we don't have arctic shells here in Florida. IDing these shells is harder than it looks!
But you have so much fun doing it. And I have so much fun watching. I went to Naples last year and was able to ID some shells from what I learned from you. Went to Marco island, but not at the right time. So only found a few. I feel like I missed out. So I will keep shell hunting with you. Thanks for all your videos.
Vinegar will whiten shells. Apple cider smells better. Thinner shells won't take as long. Overnight or for days. Safer to use than bleach. 🐚
I tried vinegar on some of my conchs and it made the shells all white 🥲 I have not perfected that technique.
@SWFBeachLife Patience, Sweetie. Overnight soaking. Even cleans golf clubs, tools, etc. With rusty tools, you have to keep changing the vinegar. It's amazing what it does. Love, Sis.
@SWFBeachLife You're right. I would test certain shells. Don't want to take colors out.
I read somewhere that bubble shells glow under blacklights. Do you know if that is true?
True! And I've showed this in a previous episode: ruclips.net/video/eHciRT5B3CI/видео.html
Did you find the mesoplax with the Angle wings?
Thank you for teaching me "mesoplax" 😃 I wonder if that is what us casual collectors call the "scoop" on the inside of the shells. Yes, most of them had them but many broken when I was trying to get all the sand and mud off them.
@@SWFBeachLife . A little shelly piece known as mesoplax helps with the rocking movements during burrowing. The shell in the images was collected by Dale V. Stingley in April 1948, on Captiva.
Girl…. You hit the angle wing lotto that day… many many years ago I found a pair with the animal so we had to leave it there… but exciting all the same… as for fighting conchs… back in the 70s/80s when we frequented Sanibel we always went to Captiva to find the crown conchs… the water was a bit rougher there and where the waves broke we would find them … as always it seemed like different years we’d find a lot of a certain species… but try there
Thank you! Can I tell you there are zero public parking lots open on Captiva right now? 😣
Can you tell me what beach I can find a leafy jewel box for my collection?
@@jeanfrey5346 I have had better luck on the East Coast at John Mac Arthur state park but finding any particular shell usually involves a lot of luck!
White hinged shell - my daughter (4) says a duck clam.
Thanks for the ID help!
Huh. I see pairs all the time, but I’m on the Atlantic side. Never bothered to pick them up.
Dosinia discus?
I don't think that's it, but thank you for the help!
❤
Maybe add a small bag of rubber bands to your pack from now on. You never know when you'll find matched pairs of Angel wings again.
I wanted to see what a live Angelwing looked like. During my search, I saw a note that Angelwings glow in the dark? Bioluminescence. Is this true??
I found a live angel wing once and for the life of me, I can't find the video of it. I'm going to keep looking! I did try my UV light on my angel wings and they do not glow. Whomp whomp.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’ve never seen a Brittle Star, please show us close ups next time.
Do you not wonder why so many Angel wings died?
I'm curious, but I see mass events like this from time to time. Nature has so many mysteries!
Disc dosinia?
I think it might be a lucine but not sure. Thanks for the ID help!
