After 50 years of telling my husband that I want to go to Egypt, my dream is coming true. We are going in November on a tour which I normally never do, but this was a better option for us. A cruise on the Nile from Aswan to Luxor then 4 days in Cairo. I have been going to ask you about the dinner cruises and this one looked pretty good. I am more interested in the entertainment than the food and really want something authentic. I love the Arabic music and many times they mix it with flamenco. I use to be a professional flamenco dancer. I see you fell in love with Egypt like I did with Spain over 50 years ago. Yes, I do live in Southern Spain and one more thing. I’m from Minnesota too. Love your videos and I have learned so much from them. Awesome job!

@julieh6924 - I agree with you, Julie... Gisselle makes so many fun and informative videos.
I know you will enjoy the Nile Cruise - I did the very same one when I first visited Egypt in 1995, and loved it so much. I have been back many times.
I too live in Southern Spain by the way, having retired there from the UK.
Have a great trip in November!!

@@julieh6924 - Thanks for your reply - I live close to Málaga City, and count my blessings that I moved here from the UK before the Brexit regulations took hold!!
If November is going to be your first trip to Egypt, you have much to look forward to. The cruise is the best way to start your adventure, I think, and you will be guided through the various temples and sights on the way.
Your itinerary in Aswan might include a trip to Abu Simbel which can be reached by plane or by road. If your tour doesn't include this temple (and if you have time), it's worth checking the car options with private driver/guide, or 'do your own thing' when you get there. Also a boat trip from Aswan to Philae Temple is well worth it, in my opinion. In Luxor, of course you cannot possibly avoid the spectacular Karnak Temple Complex!!
Gisselle's many videos on the sights and sounds of Cairo on this channel are excellent and great fun. She has a charming way with the local people, and you can learn a lot from her interaction with them!! Egyptians are friendly and funny but, like any 'tourist' country, you should be aware of pitfalls. On the street and in the markets (souks) you will be constantly approached by the locals either trying to sell you something or (in the case of carriage drivers) trying to persuade you to take a ride on their 'caleche'. You can generally resist them with a polite 'no thank you' or 'la, shukran', but they do tend to be persistent and you have to stand your ground! But don't let that affect your enjoyment - it's all part of the fun! If you do decide to take a caleche ride, make sure you fix the price first... and no extras for the horse which they will probably call 'Ferrari'!!
Of course, in the comfort of your cruise ship, you won't have such encounters, but when you go ashore just be aware of your surroundings and stay safe. Bear in mind there's safety in numbers when you are with other members of the tour group.
Having said all that, have yourselves a wonderful time and make the most of this great opportunity to appreciate one of the world's great ancient civilizations!
      William

I think "5-star boat" and think "5-star food", but that clearly wasn't the case. HOWEVER, it was a buffet and I wasn't expecting the food to be good in the first place, so I wasn't disappointed at all. But if you ever take a cruise like this, don't hope for a gourmet meal 😅

      Prices on boat:
$1 bottle water (so 50 EGP, but outside on the street it is 5!)
$3 for a coke (144 EGP, but outside it is like 14)
$6 for a beer (289 EGP, outside you can buy a bottle of nice wine for that price. I don't drink beer often but I think normally they are like 50 or 55 EGP.)

One of the things that I have never understood in the Arab culture is belly dancing. On one hand one may see in Cairo conservatively dressed muslim women, on the other hand belly dancing that can be seen as something quite opposite and contraversal. Is that something for "home use only" or their version of strip bars?

    • @Gventures
      @Gventures  2 месяца назад +1

Yeah their version of strip clubs 😅 And it exists for tourists. Your average Egyptian citizen is not going to watch belly dancing though, and I think most have probably never even seen belly dancing shows. Of the Egyptians that I have seen at shows, they are men out late at night in some basement bar.

@@Gventures Quite a subjective comment. Seems like you don't know Egypt yet. Not quite. The majority of Egyptians do attend weddings, and Belly dancing is most likely part of the show. I've seen most of your videos, and it seems like you haven't been much around the middle and the upper class of Egypt, who are living a completely different life than the one you show in your videos. A budget thing maybe. Go to all the new communities at the outskirts of Cairo, many neighbourhoods of Alexandria, the North Coast, Hurghada, Sharm, Marsa Alam, Gouna..etc. They're all nothing to do with the mediocre Egypt that you keep showing. Good luck though.

@@edbasset5754 I have actually had this belly dancing discussion with many of my Egyptians friends, so this information is not something I came to a conclusion about on my own, but rather something I have heard from many people. I have been to quite a few weddings now and none of them ever had belly dancing. Does middle class mean extremely rich to you? Because I know plenty of middle class people and again, same answer with the belly dancing thing. I have never been a fan of the elite class, looking down on others and treating them as servants, living a life of luxury without a thought or care to the less fortunate. This seems to be a trend all over the world and I've had SO MUCH exposure to this type of behavior from these people that I know this is how the majority of how them act. It's appalling and over many years of seeing this I have distanced myself from them. I am obviously not saying every single rich person is this way, but I am speaking from personal life experience when I say most of them are. Their noses curl at the less fortunate, both in the US, other countries, and here in Egypt. In fact, it's worse in Egypt, as there seems to exist a lot of classism here.

    • @theoriginalsuzycat

@user-uf7mi4lt5y it is the natural way Egyptian people dance, learned from mothers and old movies and so on. It is completely normal in a domestic setting, both "for your husband" and for wholesome fun, usually in single sex situations.
There are multiple levels of professional belly dance. It can range from performance at a wedding or henna night, to 5 star hotels (mostly foreigners these days) to Nile Cruises to nightclubs to lower class cabarets. It's over-simplifying to liken all these contexts to strip clubs or tourist venues. The context matters a lot.

It's full of tourists, so it's touristic. And not sure how to "book directly," the boat didn't exactly have it's own website where I could book a cruise with it, and I didn't feel like driving down to the docks to ask them directly. Also, most tourists are probably not going to do that either, so what I showed was a common way for tourists to find a dinner cruise, and for a reasonable price. I got an idea! Go make your own video! Then you don't need to roll your eyes and act like a snob to people that are actually DOING something for others, it's much better than sitting around btchn' 😁😉
