I hear you. It's why I never left, even though when I came to Egypt I had no intention of living here, I was just planning to travel for a few months and then go live in Argentina. But I fell in love with Egypt and haven't looked back since 😅
As salamu aleikum G! 5 sleeps to my trip to Al Misr.. I'm so excited. I love Egypt so much Shukran for your amazing videos always. Love from Mozambique
You give the realest views of Egypt. I watched all of your videos before coming to Egypt. I've been there twice and will come again next month InshaaAllah. I'm also from the US. Thanks so much for your vids!❤
Watching from Australia. 🇦🇺 Fair, honest and practical advice. And so kind, feeding the kitty cats. Good on you. Always love your videos. Thanks Gigi 👍🙏⭐
That was such a fun video! I love your interaction with the local people, and they all seem to love you!! And how nice to meet two of your subscribers at the end! But now I think we must call you 'Gisselle the movie star' from now on, following the comment at 32:00 ...haha!! I'm loving all the sights and sounds of this famous market, and the way you showed your compassion for the kitty cat and baby at 42:23 ...that was so sweet, although it upset you a little, I think. I am sure that would be so much fun!! Thank you again for putting so much effort into your videos, Gisselle! 😀William
Yes the markets are great fun, I love wandering around in all the souqs here in Egypt! There's so much to see and do, and friendly, interesting people to meet (not to mention it's great for photography and filming)! Ahaha that guy asking if I'm a movie star 🤣 It had me chuckling. But it's a very hard life for the cats here on the streets of Cairo, I really feel for them. I was a little unsure how to respond, he really was acting like he was meeting a movie star 🤣 Very nice young man though. And yeah, meeting subscribers at the end, I loved it! It's cool to meet people in the flesh that are watching my videos, I'm always happy to meet them and thank them in person for their support, and find out a little bit more about them ❤️ Lol I really should take the motorbike into the market, that would be hilarious. I'm just afraid I would roll over someone's feet, it can get so crowded! 🤣 Thanks so much for watching the entire video William, I think you may be my biggest supporter! 🥰🙏

Colourful, lively, well shot, entertaining video! Well done! I seem to remember there is another big bazaar just across the main road from Khan el Khalili which is not so touristy? I love it when they hold a lighter flame to leather to prove it's genuine, then after you buy, it falls to pieces because they burned through all the stitching! 🤣 Really enjoyed this - thanks!
Lol yeah, the good 'ol burn trick 😆 And yes there are several markets in the area, Khan El Khalili transitions into Al Moski, Al Moski transitions into Ataba, it's a sprawling area as I know you know. Great video, going from your must know phrases video (which I must have watched 50 times at this point) to see you using your Arabic in real life situations and now being able to understand some of the things you are saying really brings it to life!
That is so badass! Full circle man! That's of course because you have the desire to learn and actually spent time re-watching it and memorizing them. Great video, thank you! Reminded me of the many times I haggled in the Khan... after a while it is exhausting, as they seem to show you what they want to, not necessarily what you asked for 🤣 I love bartering... used to do it when I lived in Abu Dhabi. I could see how upset you were about the cat and kitten, I used to cry when I saw them, even though I was told that they are fed! You have a big heart . Love all your videos.
Yeah, the markets are a lot of fun, but after a while it can get exhausting. Wandering around in the heat, lots of interactions, going back and forth to get a good price. I love the souqs, but I do always leave exhausted 😅
i was in Cairo last week and was so surprised at how clean that underground tunnel cross is nowadays...back in the late 90s it used to be extremely filthy with a strong foul odour of piss and we had to pinch our noses and sprint to get across...it is so good to know that Egypt has prioritized their tourism industry...

Ahaha, thanks JCJ! Go to the market, no need to be nervous! They are trying to sell you stuff, but it's just their job and they do it every day, all day long. There are hundreds, no, thousands of other people passing through there every day, so really they don't care if you don't stop, they are already looking for the next person to stop when you pass by.
Greetings to you and special greeting to the Somalian siblings, they are so sweet, and greetings to the lovely Egyptians, they are amazing and friendly.
Ahaha, yes, I will always be a tourist here in Egypt, according to them. And until I can learn more Arabic, I can't bargain like a local. Not the way I want to. But it's fun anyways 😄 I still get told "Welcome to Egypt" almost every day. It's nice to be welcomed, even if I have been here almost 3 years 😆

Welcome to Khan Elkhalili world, is a mad expirace but it's fun, and Yes you have to pay attention to the pricing equal to the product you buy, the scam is really a thing over there, and also many pick pockets, but overall is a great place to be, you can feel the depth of the culture over there, Nice video and helpful for tourists, thanks for introducing the Truth 👍.
Are there lots of pickpockets? I've never been pickpocketed there before, but I guess I'm pretty aware of my surroundings and always careful with my belongings
@@Gventures oh ya they are around there, just pay attention you are good to go, don't carry to many stuff unnecessary with you, you will be ok, and avoid carrying a big bag, it's similar to Europe lots of pick pockets but not as serious as Spain or Italy, with somewhere like Khan Elkhalili, carry the minimum stuff, have a great time.

Bargaining gives me headaches, but it is necessary sometimes lol! Also, I believe they always refer to you as Shakira because of a music video for her late 1990s song Ojos Asi, in which her hair was dyed red, and it just clicked for them that a Latinx with red hair=Shakira. The song was hugely popular in Egypt, especially since she sang some Arabic in it. I hope this provides some clarity.
No actually they call all kinds of women Shakira, I have heard them yelling Shakira at dozens of women in the market, and none of them had red hair. It's just a flirtatious thing they yell at foreigners 😆
Amazing! You're going to see so many different sides to Egypt, all very beautiful and unique in their own way. I hope you have a fantastic trip, and welcome to Egypt! ❤️🇪🇬
@@anaisamoh Ahaha, that is very common. Egypt has so many repeat travelers, and I understand why! I never intended to stay here, I just came for travel over 2.5 years ago. But I fell in love with the country and couldn't tear myself away, and am still here years later! 🤣❤🇪🇬
@@Gventures it gets an awful rep on the Internet. Yet you have showed what the truth really is. Exactly like how I experienced it last year. I am 3rd generation Indian but pass for Egyptian so everyone treats me like a local. Alhamdulillah. I have no bad experiences to date, except a small scam at the airport on arrival 😂😂😂😂
@@anaisamoh I completely agree! It's irritating to me that Egypt has such a bad rep online, because it's simply one side of things, and usually in extremely touristic places. I almost think people just like to join the bandwagon of complaining, like they are looking for bad things to happen even before they arrive, and there seems to be so many RUclipsrs that are just hoping for any small negative experience so they can write "SCAMMED!" in the title of their video. I mean sure, scams exist, like they do anywhere in the world. But the majority of my experiences here have been overwhelmingly positive in Egypt. Must be nice to blend in! The only way I could manage that is if I wore a hijab, which I will never do, because I hate anything on my head, even a simple hat. But yeah, Egypt is awesome. I'm glad we have both had good experiences here and love the country ❤
You know Shakira had the exact same red hair colour like yours and similar eye make up in the music video called 'Ojos Asi' which used Arabic (I think Egyptian sample) vocals in the song. It was a huge song for her in arabic speaking countries. That's why they call you Shakira, it's the hair colour.
Ah, no it's not why they say Shakira. Because I've heard them call dozens of women Shakira, who look nothing like me. And I've heard them even saying Shakira in the souqs of Dubai. It's just a thing
Haha, cool man! Yeah you ran off so quickly I didn't get a chance to ask your name 😅, but it was nice meeting you today Steve! And thanks again for watching 🙏 You are living in Egypt as well?
That time the guide took us to a papyrus shop,I got ripped real good, they sold me a paper for 15 euros, when I got to khan khalili ,I found it at 30 e pounds and later in the street for just 10 egp! The same thing happened at the perfume shop in Gizeh ...Lesson learnt the hard way. Thanks G for the tips
Ach. Yeah, it be like that 😅 Price comparison! And waiting till you go to less touristic areas. The busier and the more local it is, the lower the price

Gisselle now your fans wait for your Sunday’s videos. Keep up the good work Haggling for a price is annoying. It is a lot easier to see a sticker price But is part of KHAN KHALILI market
Gisselle It is true. About the prices. Every place around the world is different But Egypt 🇪🇬 is still cheaper than all surrounding countries Your dollars can go along way. However when you live or reside in a country you must think like the locals. Not like where you came from. Gisselle that was very obvious when travelled to Budapest and you compared the prices to Egypt 🇪🇬
I like these type of videos so much, I definitely would want to buy many things 😅😅 but I don’t have the patience to negotiate prices, is there any shops with fixed prices (I’m not sure if “fixed” is the correct word to use” but you know what I mean) ????? ☺️☺️
Fixed prices would be a good word to use. But I don't think you'll find any shops with fixed prices (labels on them), or they would be very few and far in between. I actually can't ever remember seeing a shop that is selling souvenirs that had prices labeled on them in Egypt. If there is such a shop, I imagine it would be overpriced anyway. And then, with that thought, if you're willing to spend a lot of money for less of a hassle, then you could just not bother negotiating in the market and pay whatever the vendor is asking for right away. Depending on the strength of your country's currency, your style of travel and the amount of money you like to spend, it might still not be too much for you 🤷♀️
That's exactly what I use! For most of the video, that's what I am using, as it is my vlogging camera. But for some scenes (especially while riding the motorcycle) I was using GoPro12.
Giselle, do you know of any good guides or have you thought about being a guide for a group of people? You have lived there for several years now and would be perfect for this! Any recommendations on a inexpensive but good hotel? I am planning a trip to Egypt sometime in the near future and trying to gather as much info as I can.
I unfortunately can't help with the guide thing, I never take tours so I don't know of any guides that I can recommend. Hotels are also hard for me to recommend, because I have always stayed in hostels. There are some down by the pyramids which aren't too expensive, I made a video about that some time ago. ruclips.net/video/XCPDnZxQjv8/видео.html If you want a hotel in downtown, which I prefer, there are plenty of budget ones, but not sure how nice they are. There are some other hotels I know people have stayed in such as Cleopatra Hotel and Holy Sheet Plus Hotel. I guess you could look them up online and see if they fit into your budget.
Haha, well actually I go there fairly often, but it's to meet my Arabic tutor. So usually when I'm there I'm crying inside and my brains are on the floor 🤣
Yes I know, I actually mentioned Al Moski in this video, saying I would normally shop there and not Khan el Khalili. I've made past videos in ataba and al moski. I've filmed many videos on kasr el Nile in downtown, though never shopping. But I don't go to Nasr City often
@@Gventures I know you did mentioned El mosky in this video but I thought I tell you about Abbas El Akkad st. since there are lots of egyptian brands there with a good quality cloth, I even tried to tell you about an Egyptian brand which sells good scarfs and they have lots of branches around Cairo but Every time I type their name, RUclips erase my comment 🤷🏻♂️. any way great video as usual. 😁😅
@@CourteousMind Really?! That's weird, I wonder why RUclips won't allow you to write the brand name. That's so strange! But thanks for the recommendations, I appreciate it ❤
@@Gventures your very welcome, the brand is (( Tie shop outlet )). they have a very cool designs of scarfs. I always get birthday presents for my two big sisters from them.
Hey girl! Please can i ask as im going back to Hurghada next month and thinking whether to go to Luxor or Cairo which one would u recommend? I know the Cairo trip we go to this market at the end of the day 😂
That will completely depend on what you want to do, how much time you have, and what you enjoy. Luxor is much closer to Hurghada and is full of ancient sites, so if you want to explore temples and tombs and don't want to travel as far, I would probably recommend Luxor. But it is of course smaller than Cairo and Giza, and hence feels a lot more touristic. Honestly, I don't love Luxor all that much, but that's just because I don't like to do too many touristic things in one day, and I love big cities and chaos, so Cairo/Giza is more my style. Cairo/Giza is of course further away from Hurghada and has less ancient history than Luxor, but obviously has the pyramids of Giza, as well as many other historical sites ranging from Christian history to Islamic history. If you want to just explore the city and streets, wander in markets, try different foods and feel the big city vibes, then you may enjoy Cairo/Giza more. It all depends on your preferences.
I would only go shopping with a local if i was already hanging out with them and even then only if it was a big ticket item. Egyptians are no more likely to allow trade to walk away than anywhere else in the world. It may help if you reflect that the price you agreed at point of sale was the right price. No point spoiling your day or even your holiday for the price of a white wine spritzer back home.😊
Prices for turists in that market are a total rip off. I was targeting 40% of asked price and they were still, most likely, having good profit margins. Giving the last price or walk away tactics was saving time since these negotiations can be lengthy. As a tourist I had to value my time.
Thank YOU for feeding the cats Alex! Your donation will go to buying more cat food 😻🙏 I don't always record feeding them of course, but trust me when I say, if I'm around, cats are getting some food! 😄
@@alexmtl70 I know, it's terrible. So many of them are very skittish and scared, and for good reason, unfortunately. Not only are there the dangers of dogs and motorbikes and other cats brawling over food, but shitty humans too. It's a very rough life here on the streets of Cairo for these poor cats 😭💔
I'm going to Egypt soon and I really need good internet to keep up with my work and college assignments... can you make a video on how to get the best internet? Please 🙏
I can't really make a video about that because I don't know much, unfortunately. I use WE company for my home WIFI and it works well. As long as there are no power cuts, you should be okay. But quality, speed, and power will perhaps depend on what are you live in, amongst other unknown factors.
I was in Egypt last March when the Egyptian pound lost 1/3th of its value overnight. You could tell people were really desperate so I fell bad about bartering.
Wasn't that in February of 2022? I know it lost a lot of value at that time, I remember the panic on the streets as well. Since that time, it went through several more devaluations, it's been a very hard time here for everyone. It finally stabilized a bit a few months ago when they began floating the pound, but times are still very tough, and it certainly isn't worth what it was when I first arrived in Egypt in October of 2021.
@@Gventures No, it was last March. When I first visited Egypt in November '22 the pound was worth € 0,04, then at the end of February of this year when I visited Egypt again it had already fallen to € 0,03 and then it dropped overnight to € 0,02.
@@HueijRevisited Hmm, honestly it's hard to keep track of it for me, the devaluation has happened several times since I started living here in 10/21, when $1 USD = 15 EGP. After the Ukraine/Russia war started late February 2022, it took a big hit. It has dropped several more times since then. It has finally leveled out a bit and isn't constantly fluctuating, ever since they floated the pound, which has also eliminated a lot of the black market, but obviously times are tough and things are not like they used to be.
Souvenirs, like statues and papyrus and stuff? Probably here in Khan el Khalili. It is the largest area with the most variety, and because there is so much competition, you have more options and a better chance of getting a lower price. For normal things that don't have ancient Egypt stuff on it, like a regular scarf or just a normal bag or something, other areas are better.
Not really. Just the usual, be aware of people trying to sell you things or overcharging you for stuff in touristic areas. Bargain for things in the markets, and if you don't want something, don't buy it or accept it, don't be pressured into something you don't want. I made a video about safety in Egypt and talk a bit about that in that video ruclips.net/video/ZNDQxLwNKaQ/видео.html
Not really....Khan el Khalili is in Islamic Cairo, and the Egyptian Museum is in downtown Cairo. But you can google map both locations and see the distance from each other. It's a very long walk through some very hectic streets. Here's a video I made showing the area around Khan el Khalili: ruclips.net/video/64V5In3SdD4/видео.html But if you take an Uber, it's not a very long drive.

I dont buy any of those goods for a hundred pounds btw , im Egyption ,, if u can take a friend with you and he goes first in the shop and asks for the price and then u go so u will know the prices, dont take a local guide , take a friend from sm , or a neighbour or from RUclips .
Yeah I don't usually shop here in general, actually. I shop in Al Moski or Ataba or other places closer to my apartment. I have been living here for almost 3 years though so I don't need a friend to walk me around, heheh. I know how that works though, my bf is Egyptian and he sometimes will go ahead and ask about the price before I walk in, like when I was buying stuff for my motorcycle. If we walk in together, then they tell HIM a high price just because I am with him 🙄🤦♀️
I think the evening is best, because it is more lively then. Anytime from 6pm or later. Maybe 7pm or 8pm even, but it just depends on when you want to go/how late you want to be up/out.

Depending on the strength of your country's currency, your style of travel and the amount of money you like to spend, it might still not be too much for you 🤷♀️
Hi G. Great video. Do you use a sony x3000 to do your videos?. Thx.

There are some down by the pyramids which aren't too expensive, I made a video about that some time ago. ruclips.net/video/XCPDnZxQjv8/видео.html
If you want a hotel in downtown, which I prefer, there are plenty of budget ones, but not sure how nice they are.

Hello Gyselle, yes... I dont like bargains... usually I play with a potential price
For good prices you can check el mosky , el attabah, kasr el nile Street in Downtown Cairo or you can go to Abbas El Akkad Street in Nasr City.

@@Gventures thanks for ur reply Luxor looks interesting but i have gone for the Pyramids 😁
Well donè❤
Prices for turists in that market are a total rip off. I was targeting 40% of asked price and they were still, most likely, having good profit margins. Giving the last price or walk away tactics was saving time since these negotiations can be lengthy. As a tourist I had to value my time.
Yep I know, that's why I say everything that I do in the video

@@fakeuser3803 Exactly. I don't think this is the way to handle a sale or a transaction. Both parties were doing it wrong 😑
A good idea here is to hire s local lambdaperson and go to the same places and compare the prices
Comparing prices is key. You really don't need someone to aid you, unless you are inexperienced or bad at negotiating
Where do you think it’s the best place to buy souvenirs?
Souvenirs, like statues and papyrus and stuff? Probably here in Khan el Khalili. It is the largest area with the most variety, and because there is so much competition, you have more options and a better chance of getting a lower price. For normal things that don't have ancient Egypt stuff on it, like a regular scarf or just a normal bag or something, other areas are better.
I invite you to visit Sohag❤
Somali boy is the best❤❤
Yeah he was so energetic! Very sweet interaction 🥰
Hey. Any warring or advice ? Doing to Egypt on Dec 2 2024
Is this by the Egyptian Museum?
Not really....Khan el Khalili is in Islamic Cairo, and the Egyptian Museum is in downtown Cairo. But you can google map both locations and see the distance from each other. It's a very long walk through some very hectic streets.
Here's a video I made showing the area around Khan el Khalili:

what is the best time to go to khan al khalili ?
I think the evening is best, because it is more lively then. Anytime from 6pm or later. Maybe 7pm or 8pm even, but it just depends on when you want to go/how late you want to be up/out.
